RHAPSODY OF REALITIES DAILY DEVOTIONAL
OUR MUTUAL FAITH
MESSAGE BY: Pastor Chris Oyakhilome DSc DSc DD
MEMORISE: “I long to see you so that I may impart to you some spiritual gift to make you strong—that is, that you and I may be mutually encouraged by each other’s faith.” — Romans 1:11-12 NKJV
I. THE MYSTERY OF THE SYNERGISTIC FLOW: BEYOND ONE-WAY FAITH
When we look closely at how the Kingdom of God functions, it is easy to fall into the trap of thinking that spiritual power flows only in one direction. We often imagine a passive congregation sitting quietly, waiting for an anointed minister to rain down spiritual virtues upon them. But the Apostle Paul introduces a higher dimension of spiritual mechanics in his letter to the Romans.
He writes under divine inspiration: “…that you and I may be mutually encouraged by each other’s faith.”
This reveals the law of mutual faith—the intersection where faith responds to faith, working together to produce an extraordinary atmosphere for the miraculous.
Consider who is speaking here. This is Paul the Apostle, a spiritual giant who wrote a large portion of the New Testament epistles, saw visions of the third heaven, and operated in remarkable miracles. Yet, he did not approach the saints in Rome with an attitude of spiritual superiority, as if he were the only one bringing something to the table. He fully recognized that while he carried an apostolic supply to impart to them, there was also a critical, supernatural supply that would flow from them back to him.
This is the beauty of the New Creation. In the economy of the Spirit, no joint is empty, and no true believer is purely a consumer. The Holy Spirit operates through a corporate synergy. When you step into a corporate meeting or a specialized ministration, your faith is not meant to be passive. Your expectant faith acts as a catalyst, pulling on the grace of the minister, while the minister’s faith unlocks the potential within your spirit. When these two forces collide, an unhindered, multi-directional flow of the Holy Ghost is instantly activated!
II. THE ANATOMY OF SYSTEMIC GROWTH: EVERY JOINT SUPPLIES
To give us a clearer picture of this corporate synergy, the scriptures direct us to the anatomy of the human body. In Ephesians 4:16, Paul explains that the corporate Body of Christ grows and builds itself up in love “by that which every joint supplies, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part.”
Think about how a human body moves. The elbow cannot function properly if the shoulder refuses to provide its supply. The knee cannot stabilize the leg if the ankle is weak.
Every single believer is a vital “joint” or “supporting ligament” in this grand design.
When you understand this, you realize that your response in a meeting is incredibly important. You are not an detached observer watching a performance on a stage; you are an active spiritual participant.
Faith is the response of the human spirit to the Word of God. When the gospel is being preached, taught, or demonstrated, you must mix that word with your own active faith.
Hebrews 4:2 gives a solemn warning about the ancient Israelites: “For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it.”
The Word of God is inherently perfect, but it requires a landing pad of active faith to produce tangible miracles. If you sit in a meeting with a critical, cold, or passive mind, you limit the profit of the Word in your life. But when you mix the message with your faith, shouting “Amen!” and yielding your spirit, you help create an atmosphere where the miraculous becomes effortless.
III. THE EDIFICATION FACTOR AND THE MATURITY OF HONOUR
In Romans 1:12, Paul uses the word “comforted,” which in the original text carries a far deeper meaning than mere emotional relief. It means to be strongly encouraged, fortified, reinforced, and built up.
When mutual faith is operational, everyone leaves the room stronger than they entered. The minister is energized and edified by the response of the people, and the congregation is fortified by the apostolic supply of the minister.
An extraordinary byproduct of this mutual faith is a deep, unshakeable spiritual unity.
Those who walk in the reality of the Spirit understand that the miraculous does not happen because of human talent, charisma, or intellectual prowess. It is strictly by the grace of God.
Because they understand this dependency, mature believers develop a profound respect and honor for the grace of God operating in others. They are not quick to criticize, judge, or tear down another ministry or fellow believer. They look past minor denominational differences and recognize the unmistakable hand of the Father at work.
We see this beautifully illustrated in Mark 9:38-39, when the disciples complained to Jesus about someone casting out demons in His name who was not part of their immediate group. Jesus firmly corrected them, saying, “Forbid him not: for there is no man which shall do a miracle in my name, that can lightly speak evil of me.”
Walking in mutual faith requires you to step away from petty competition and align yourself with the corporate body, honoring the diverse expressions of God’s power across the earth.
IV. ENLISTING IN THE CORPORATE SHIFT
Beloved, you must intentionally upgrade how you approach corporate fellowship and individual ministry. Never sit in a service as an detached spectator. When the Word is going forth, engage your heart, speak the Word back, and let your faith rise. You are contributing to the spiritual atmosphere of that room!
Recognize the immense value of the supply within you. You are a container of the Holy Ghost, and your faith has the capacity to encourage and strengthen those around you. Walk in humility, honor the grace of God in your leaders and brothers and sisters in Christ, and watch our mutual faith unlock unprecedented dimensions of signs, wonders, and global impact!
V. PRAYER
Dear Father, I thank You for the profound reality of mutual faith at work within the Body of Christ. I thank You for the specific, supernatural supply You have deposited within my spirit. I declare that I will never be a passive listener; I mix Your Word with active faith every time I hear it. I honor, respect, and celebrate the diverse dimensions of Your grace working through my brothers, sisters, and leaders in the faith. We stand together in absolute unity, humility, and power, creating an unstoppable highway for Your Spirit to transform our world, in the mighty Name of Jesus. Amen.
VI. FURTHER STUDY SUMMARY
Ephesians 4:16 (NIV): Paul describes the Church as a perfectly integrated body, held together by every supporting ligament. The entire structure grows and builds itself up in love as each individual part carries out its unique, specialized work.
Mark 9:39 (KJV): When the disciples try to stop an outsider from ministering, Jesus commands them not to forbid him, explaining that anyone who performs a genuine miracle in His name cannot easily turn around and speak evil of Him.
Hebrews 4:2 (KJV): The writer points out that the good news was announced to the New Testament church just as it was to ancient Israel. However, the message the Israelites heard was of no benefit to them, because it was not accompanied by active faith in those who heard it.
VII. BIBLE IN ONE YEAR SUMMARY: ACTS 26:2-18 & PSALMS 17-18
Acts 26:2-18: Standing before King Agrippa, Paul delivers a masterclass in gospel defense. He shares his upbringing as a strict Pharisee, his past zeal in persecuting the early Church, and the dramatic moment on the road to Damascus when a light brighter than the sun knocked him to the ground. He recounts the voice of Jesus commissioning him to open the eyes of the Gentiles, turning them from darkness to light and from the power of Satan to God, so they might receive forgiveness of sins and an inheritance among the sanctified.
-
Psalms 17-18:
-
Psalm 17: A prayer of David seeking divine justice against his deadly enemies, asking God to hide him under the shadow of His wings and declaring his hope to wake up in God’s likeness.
-
Psalm 18: A long song of praise delivered after God rescued David from Saul, portraying God as a rock, fortress, and deliverer who parts the heavens, rides upon a cherub, and descends in thunder to scatter David’s adversaries.

VIII. BIBLE IN TWO YEAR SUMMARY: GALATIANS 5:20-26 & ISAIAH 39
Galatians 5:20-26: Paul continues his list of the works of the flesh—including idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, envyings, murders, drunkenness, and revelings—warning that those who practice such things will not inherit the Kingdom. He then contrasts this with the fruit of the Spirit: love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, and temperance, concluding with a call to crucify the flesh and walk in step with the Spirit without vanity or envy.
Isaiah 39: After King Hezekiah recovers from his illness, Merodach-baladan, the son of the king of Babylon, sends envoys with letters and gifts. Flattered by the attention, Hezekiah shows the Babylonian ambassadors everything in his royal storehouses—his silver, gold, spices, precious oils, and armory. The prophet Isaiah confronts him with a word of judgment from the Lord, declaring that a day is coming when everything in his palace will be carried away to Babylon, and his own descendants will be taken as servants.
