BRING YOUR BODY UNDER SUBJECTION

MESSAGE BY: Pastor Chris Oyakhilome DSc DSc DD

MEMORISE: “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.” — Romans 12:1

I. THE TRIUNE HIERARCHY: THE LAST FRONTIER OF MASTERY

In our previous studies, we established a glorious, non-negotiable spiritual architecture. We discovered that your recreated human spirit is the authentic Holy of Holies—the modern-day Most Holy Place where the Spirit of the living God makes His permanent home. From that sacred inner sanctuary, your spirit must take absolute leadership. We also learned that your soul—comprising your mind, will, and emotions—must be systematically trained, tutored, and renewed by the Word of God to follow that spiritual lead.

However, there remains one final, highly critical frontier that must be addressed if you are to experience the fullness of the victorious life in Christ Jesus: your physical body.

Your body is the material vehicle through which your spirit contacts and legalizes its presence in this physical earth. Without a physical body, you cannot legally function on this planet. Yet, you must understand a profound truth: your physical body does not automatically align itself with the divine life of God resident in your spirit.

When you were born again, your spirit was instantly perfected, but your physical body did not change. It retained its old biological instincts, its genetic memories, and its natural appetites. It still responds to what it sees, hears, touches, and feels in the natural world. Left to itself, the body will live in rebellion against your spirit.

Therefore, the body must be brought under absolute subjection, disciplined, and forced to submit to the authority of the recreated spirit.

II. THE RESPONSIBILITY OF PRESENTATION: GOD’S DELEGATED MANDATE

Many sincere Christians wait on God to supernaturally clean up their physical habits, curb their biological appetites, or force their bodies to behave. But this is a monumental spiritual misunderstanding.

God has already done His part. He sent His Son to redeem you, He recreated your human spirit, and He sent His Holy Spirit to live inside you. But the responsibility of managing, disciplining, and presenting your physical body is delegated entirely to you.

This is why the Holy Spirit issues a direct, apostolic command through Paul in Romans 12:1: “…present your bodies a living sacrifice…”

Notice that God does not say He will take your body and present it for you. You must do the presenting!

The Apostle Paul provides an raw, graphic insight into his personal lifestyle of bodily discipline in 1 Corinthians 9:27: “But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection…”

The Greek phrase translated “keep under” literally means to buffet, to strike under the eye, or to handle roughly. Paul was using the metaphor of a boxer to describe how he actively wrestled down his physical frame. He did not pamper his flesh; he did not negotiate with his physical feelings. He understood that he was a spirit being, not a physical body. He lived in a body, and he refused to let his house rule the tenant!

III. MORTIFYING THE IMPULSES OF THE FLESH

Your physical body is incredibly sensitive. It is engineered to respond aggressively to natural sensations, carnal appetites, and external environmental stimuli. It wants to act, react, and make decisions based entirely on what it physically feels.

If your body feels tired, it demands that you do not pray. If your body feels an immoral craving, it demands gratification. If your body picks up a physical symptom, it demands that you confess sickness and accept defeat.

But if you permit your physical senses to rule you, you are operating in direct violation of your New Creation identity. The Scriptures deliver a stark, uncompromising warning in Romans 8:13: “For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die…”

To live after the flesh simply means to be governed, guided, and regulated by the impulses and reports of your physical body.

But that is not your life! You have been born of the Spirit of God. As the concluding part of Romans 8:13 victoriously declares: “…but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live.”

To “mortify” means to completely deaden, paralyse, or put to death. Through the kinetic power of the Holy Spirit resident in your inner man, you possess the legal and spiritual ability to overrule the impulses of your flesh, paralyse negative bodily habits, and force your physical frame into absolute alignment with the will and purpose of God.

This is not a lifestyle of religious suppression or asceticism; it is a lifestyle of divine mastery. Your spirit, fused with the Holy Spirit, takes charge. Your soul, renewed by the Word, agrees. And your physical body has no option but to obey.

IV. ENFORCING IMMUNITY FROM SICKNESS AND INFIRMITY

Do not allow your physical body to dictate the quality of your life, nor should you permit it to control your daily responses. Whether it is an unhealthy physical appetite, a sudden biological weakness, or environmental pressure, you must take charge from your spirit!

Present your body to God today as a holy, highly specialized instrument of righteousness. Make it serve His Kingdom.

If you wake up and feel the early symptoms of sickness, disease, or physical weakness trying to settle in your body, do not passive-aggressively accept it. Do not say, “Well, my body feels sick today.”

Instead, rise up from your spirit and execute spiritual authority! Declare with bold conviction:

“No! My body is the temple of the Holy Spirit. Sickness, disease, and infirmity have no legal right to reside in the sanctuary of God! Therefore, I command this symptom to die from its roots, and I enforce the supernatural health and vitalizing power of Christ in my physical frame right now!”

This is how you bring your body into subjection. You do not treat your body as an independent agent; you treat it as a servant that must obey the Word of God. Keep your physical frame aligned, keep it yielded, and let the life of God shine through your physical flesh!

V. PRAYER

Dear Heavenly Father, I thank You for the glorious reality of Your life, light, and power resident within my spirit. I recognize today that my physical body is the sacred temple of the Holy Spirit. Therefore, I present my body to You as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable in Your sight. I take absolute charge over my physical frame from my spirit. I refuse to be ruled, governed, or limited by natural senses, biological cravings, or physical symptoms. I walk in perfect alignment with Your Holy Spirit, enforcing divine health, vitality, and dominion in my physical body, in the mighty Name of Jesus. Amen.

VI. FURTHER STUDY SUMMARY

1 Corinthians 9:27 (AMPC): Paul explains his disciplined lifestyle using athletic terminology, stating that he handles his body roughly, buffetting it and subduing it like a trained boxer. He does this to ensure that after preaching the glorious Gospel to others, he himself does not fail the test, become unapproved, or end up rejected by God as a counterfeit.

Romans 8:12-13 (NIV): The Holy Spirit emphasizes that believers are under an absolute obligation—but this obligation is not to the sinful nature to live according to its carnal desires. If you live according to the sinful nature, you are headed for spiritual death; but if by the power of the Holy Spirit you systematically put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will enjoy true, abundant life.

Galatians 5:24-25 (KJV): The Scripture declares that those who truly belong to Christ have crucified the flesh along with its passions and lusts. Since we have been given new life by the Spirit, we must make a conscious, daily choice to walk in step with the Spirit in all our conduct.

VII. BIBLE IN ONE YEAR SUMMARY: ACTS 25:1-12 & PSALMS 7-10

Acts 25:1-12: Three days after arriving in the province of Caesarea, Governor Festus travels to Jerusalem, where the Jewish high priests and leaders present their legal charges against Paul. They beg Festus to have Paul transferred to Jerusalem, secretly planning to ambush and murder him along the road. Festus refuses, inviting them to present their case in Caesarea. During the trial, the Jews make serious charges they cannot prove. Paul defends himself, declaring he has done nothing wrong against the Jewish law, the temple, or Caesar. When Festus, wishing to do the Jews a favor, asks Paul if he is willing to go to Jerusalem to stand trial, Paul stands his ground, exercises his legal rights as a Roman citizen, and declares: “I appeal unto Caesar!” Festus confers with his council and officially grants the request.

  • Psalms 7-10:

    • Psalm 7: David prays a intense song of defense to God, begging for deliverance from his pursuers and declaring that God is a righteous Judge who tests the minds and hearts of men.

    • Psalm 8: A majestic psalm of praise exalting the sovereign name of God in all the earth, marveling at how the Creator of the stars and cosmos has crowned human beings with glory and honor, placing them over the works of His hands.

    • Psalm 9: David gives thanks to God with his whole heart, praising Him for executing perfect justice, crushing the wicked, and serving as a secure refuge for the oppressed in times of trouble.

    • Psalm 10: The Psalmist laments the apparent prosperity and arrogance of the wicked, who think God will never call them to account. He cries out for God to arise, break the power of the oppressor, and defend the fatherless and the helpless.

VIII. BIBLE IN TWO YEAR SUMMARY: GALATIANS 5:1-12 & ISAIAH 37

Galatians 5:1-12: Paul issues an urgent, passionate warning to the Galatians to stand fast in the liberty with which Christ has made them free, and refuse to be entangled again in a yoke of legalistic bondage. He declares that if they seek justification through circumcision and the Mosaic law, they have fallen from grace and severed themselves from Christ. He points out that in Christ Jesus, neither circumcision nor uncircumcision carries any weight; the only thing that matters is “faith which worketh by love.” Paul expresses his frustration with those who are throwing the church into confusion, declaring that a little leaven leavens the entire lump.

Isaiah 37: Upon receiving the blasphemous, threatening letter from the Assyrian commander Rabshakeh, King Hezekiah tears his clothes, covers himself in sackcloth, and enters the temple to pray. He sends representatives to the prophet Isaiah, who assures the king that God will defend the city. Hezekiah offers a powerful prayer in the temple, begging God to save them so the world may know He alone is God. God answers through Isaiah, declaring that the king of Assyria will not enter Jerusalem nor shoot an arrow there. That very night, the angel of the Lord goes out and strikes down 185,000 soldiers in the Assyrian camp, forcing King Sennacherib to retreat to Nineveh, where he is eventually assassinated by his own sons.

IX. PROPHETIC DECREE

I decree and declare that on this Friday, July 17, 2026, the divine, un-infectable life of Jesus Christ in your spirit rises up and floods every single cell, tissue, organ, and system of your physical body! I command every spirit of sickness, chronic pain, fatigue, and physical limitation to pack its bags and leave your body right now by the authority of the Holy Ghost!

Your physical frame is the holy sanctuary of God, and I decree that it is permanently immune to demonic oppression and biological decay.

I declare that you are supernaturally delivered from the dominion of carnal habits and negative physical cravings. Your spirit is taking the absolute lead, and your body is stepping into submission.

As you go out today, you shall walk in absolute vitality, manifest the majestic glory of Christ in your physical flesh, and enjoy an unhindered, victorious lifestyle of health, strength, and continuous triumph, in the all-conquering Name of Jesus Christ! Amen! Hallelujah!
