IF YOU HAVE JESUS, YOU HAVE LIFE

MESSAGE BY: Pastor Chris Oyakhilome DSc DSc DD

MEMORISE: ” And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.”1 John 5:11

I. CHRISTIANITY IS NOT RELIGION—IT IS DIVINE VITALITY

Welcome to Wednesday, August 12, 2026. One of the most transformative truths a believer can ever grasp is that Christianity is not a religion. Religion is mankind’s earthly, fallen attempt to reach out to God, appease the Divine, or climb a ladder of good works to attain salvation. Christianity, however, is the direct opposite: it is the unveiling of a present, living reality—Christ in you! It is God Himself descending into the human spirit, imparting His uncreatable, divine life (Zoe), and revealing His glory, righteousness, wisdom, dominion, and grace in and through you.
This is not a mystical ideal, a symbolic metaphor, or an abstract theological concept; it is an absolute spiritual reality. When you were born again, an actual biological and spiritual regeneration took place within your human spirit. The old human life, which was subject to sin, sickness, spiritual death, and satanic oppression, was displaced by the eternal life of God.
The Apostle John records this unwavering truth as a present, undeniable record in our opening scripture:
And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.”1 John 5:11-12
Notice the precision of John’s language: God hath given (past tense) to us eternal life. This divine life is not something you are waiting to receive when you cross over into eternity or step through the pearly gates of heaven. It is a present possession right now on earth. If you have Jesus Christ living in your heart, you possess the very life, nature, and vitality of God this very moment!

II. UNDERSTANDING THE SOURCE: JESUS IS ETERNAL LIFE

To fully appreciate the magnitude of what you possess, you must understand the unique nature of Jesus Christ. Eternal life is not a commodity that Jesus hands out like a gift separate from Himself; Jesus Christ is Himself eternal life personified.
In John 17:3, Jesus defines this divine reality during His intercessory prayer:
And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.”
Earlier in His ministry, Jesus made another profound statement regarding the origin and authority of this divine life:
Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life... For as the Father hath life in himself; so hath he given to the Son to have life in himself.”John 5:24, 26
God the Father possesses life inherent within Himself—self-existent, uncreated, and independent of external sustenance. In the exact same way, He granted the Son to possess this self-existent life within Himself. Therefore, when Jesus boldly proclaimed in John 14:6, “I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me,” He was declaring that outside of Him, true divine life does not exist.
The Apostle John reinforces this in 1 John 5:20:
And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life.”
When you received Jesus into your spirit, you did not merely join a church or adopt a moral code; you received the True God and Eternal Life into your physical body!

III. SHIFTING FROM DOCTRINE TO CONSCIOUSNESS

It is one thing to know as a doctrinal fact that you have eternal life; it is a completely different matter to walk in the active, daily consciousness of that life! In 1 John 5:13, the Holy Spirit reveals the primary reason why these truths were written:
These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life…”
God wants you to know—to possess a deep, settled, experiential awareness—that you are currently indwelt by His divine life. Why is this consciousness so vital? Because your consciousness dictates your daily experience!
If you remain conscious only of your natural, human genetics, you will live like an ordinary man, bowing to the same sicknesses, depressions, and limitations that plague the unregenerate world. But when you shift your consciousness to the Word of God, you begin to operate from a heavenly frequency:
Superiority Over Satan: Eternal life renders you completely immune to the dominion of darkness. Satan has nothing in you because the life in you is light, and darkness cannot comprehend or overcome it.

Mastery Over Sickness: Sickness and disease belong to the decay of the fallen natural world. The life of God in your spirit permeates your nervous system, organs, blood, and physical tissue, repelling infirmity.
Exemption From Death and Failure: You have passed from death unto life (John 5:24). Failure, defeat, and death are no longer part of your spiritual heritage in Christ.
Stop viewing yourself as a weak, struggling human being trying to get God’s attention. You don’t live toward God from a distance; you live from God as His offspring! You are an associate of the God-kind, carrying His divine presence into every room, environment, and circumstance you encounter.

IV. PRAYER & CONFESSION

Dear Heavenly Father, I thank You from the depth of my spirit for the glorious reality of eternal life residing inside me. I am not living by human assumptions, physical feelings, or sensory evidence; I am walking boldly in the absolute truth of Your eternal Word!
Because I have the Son, I have Zoe—the divine, uncreated, indestructible life of God. I walk in the continuous consciousness of this reality today. Sickness, weakness, fear, failure, and spiritual death have no place in my body or mind. I am expressing Your holy nature, manifesting Your righteousness, and displaying Your supernatural glory, grace, and truth everywhere I go today, in the mighty Name of Jesus Christ. Amen.

V. BIBLE TEXT & FURTHER STUDY

1 John 5:11-13 (KJV)

“And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. [12] He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life. [13] These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.”
Spiritual Insight: The Holy Spirit presents the Gospel as a legally binding record (martyria). Eternal life is not a future promise to be earned through religious works, but a executed legal bequest given to every believer who possesses the Son.

Colossians 1:26-27 (NIV)

The mystery that has been kept hidden for ages and generations, but is now disclosed to the Lord’s people. To them God has chosen to make known among the Gentiles the glorious riches of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.”

Spiritual Insight: The central secret hidden from ancient ages, which prophets longed to see, is that the Almighty God would make His personal dwelling inside human spirits. Christ in you” is the absolute guarantee (hope) of experiencing God’s glory in every facet of life.

1 John 5:20 (NIV)

We know also that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding, so that we may know him who is true. And we are in him who is true by being in his Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal life.”
Spiritual Insight: Jesus Christ is explicitly identified here as both the “True God” and “Eternal Life.” Being positioned “in Him” means you share in the exact same spiritual quality of existence that Jesus enjoys at the right hand of the Father.

VI. BIBLE READING PLAN

1-Year Bible Reading Plan

Romans 14:1–15:4 & Psalms 90–93
Romans 14:1–15:4: Apostle Paul addresses church harmony, instructing believers not to judge or despise one another over doubtful disputations, such as dietary choices or the observance of specific days. He emphasizes that the Kingdom of God is not meat and drink, but righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost. Strong believers are charged to bear the infirmities of the weak and build up one another, following the selfless example of Christ, who did not please Himself.

Psalms 90–93: Psalm 90 (a prayer of Moses) reflects on God’s eternal majesty compared to man’s brief mortality, praying for divine wisdom to number our days. Psalm 91 is a powerful psalm of protection, assuring safety under the shadow of the Almighty from pestilence, terror, and destruction. Psalm 92 is a song of praise for God’s great works, declaring that the righteous shall flourish like palm trees and cedars in Lebanon. Psalm 93 exalts the Lord who reigns in majesty and strength, far above the roaring waves of the sea.

2- Year Bible Reading Plan

Philippians 2:1-11 & Isaiah 63
Philippians 2:1-11: Paul urges believers to walk in unity, humility, and oneness of mind. He presents the supreme model of Christ, who, though being in the form of God, humbled Himself, took the form of a bondservant, and became obedient unto death on the cross. Because of this self-emptying, God highly exalted Him and gave Him the Name above every name—that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord!

Isaiah 63: Describes a prophetic vision of the Lord returning in victory from Edom, His garments stained with the blood of His enemies as He executes judgment. The chapter transitions into a heartfelt prayer of remembrance, recalling God’s lovingkindnesses and past mercies to Israel, while crying out for the Lord to look down from heaven, revive His people, and demonstrate His redeeming power once again.

VII. PROPHETIC DECREE

I decree and declare that on this Wednesday, August 12, 2026, the divine life of God (Zoe) is pulsating through every fiber of your being!
Sickness, weakness, infection, and infirmity are completely swallowed up by the life of Christ at work within your mortal body!
You will not walk in fear, uncertainty, or defeat today; you operate with the wisdom, authority, and divine vitality of the Son of God Himself!
Because Christ dwells in you, every shadow of darkness, failure, or depression is scattered from your path, and you are manifesting His righteousness, grace, and glory in all that you put your hands to do, in the mighty and matchless Name of Jesus Christ! Amen! Hallelujah!
