RHAPSODY OF REALITIES DAILY DEVOTIONAL
HE IS IN YOU AND WITH YOU
MESSAGE BY: Pastor Chris Oyakhilome DSc DSc DD
MEMORISE: “God is faithful, by whom ye were called unto the fellowship of his Son Jesus Christ our Lord.” — 1 Corinthians 1:9
I. MOVING BEYOND RELIGIOUS SYMBOLISM: THE LOCATION OF THE HOLY SPIRIT
I recall the story of a certain minister who used to place two chairs on his platform in church whenever he ministered. He would explain to the congregation that one chair was reserved for himself and the other was reserved exclusively for the Holy Spirit. Whenever he felt the urge to fellowship with the Holy Spirit, he would sit down in his chair, look across at the empty seat, and say, “Holy Spirit, that’s your chair,” as though the Holy Spirit were a physical visitor who would take a seat across from him so they could begin a conversation.
While that gesture might sound poetic, reverent, or well-intentioned to a casual observer, that is completely foreign to how God wants us to think about fellowship with the Holy Spirit!
[ TWO MISCONCEIVED REALMS OF FELLOWSHIP ]

+---------------------------+---------------------------+

v v
[ OUTWARD RELIGIOUS SYMBOLISM ] [ DIVINE INDWELLING REALITY ]
- Views the Holy Spirit as an external visitor - Recognizes the Spirit living inside the believer
- Relies on physical props (e.g., empty chairs) - Engages the Spirit heart-to-heart, spirit-to-spirit
- Keeps God at a distance - Operates in complete, unbroken oneness
The Holy Spirit does not sit in physical chairs outside of you. He lives inside you!
Look at what the Lord Jesus said to His disciples prior to His crucifixion in John 14:17:
“…he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.” — John 14:17
Notice the profound shift in prepositions: Jesus explained that while the Holy Spirit was currently walking with them in the person of Jesus, God’s ultimate master plan was for the Holy Spirit to take up permanent residence inside them!
II. THE PENTECOST SHIFT: FROM EXTERNAL PROXIMITY TO INTERNAL RESIDENCE
This divine plan was fully activated on the Day of Pentecost.
Acts 2:2–4 records that sudden, historic moment when Heaven invaded earth: “And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind… And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost…”
[ OLD TESTAMENT ERA ] ===> The Holy Spirit came UPON people temporarily
||
\/
[ DAY OF PENTECOST ] ===> The Holy Spirit came INTO believers permanently
||
\/
[ NEW CREATION REALITY ] ===> You are the living Temple of God (1 Cor 3:16)
From that landmark day onward, the Holy Spirit entered human spirits to make them His permanent residence.
If you have been born again and received the Holy Spirit, He is not an external observer. He is not sitting on a furniture piece near your bed or on your church stage.
-
He is in you!
-
He is with you!
-
He is all around you!
Because of this glorious truth, you can hear His guiding voice whispering from within your spirit, as well as perceiving His prompting in your environment. You are never alone, never helpless, and never abandoned!
III. WHAT DOES FELLOWSHIP WITH THE HOLY SPIRIT ACTUALLY MEAN?
How glorious and unstoppable your daily life becomes when you cultivate a constant, sharp consciousness of your fellowship with the Holy Spirit!
The word fellowship stems from the Greek word Koinonia, which denotes:
1: Intimacy: Deep, unreserved, heart-to-heart closeness.
2: Partnership: Working together as co-laborers in every assignment.
3: Communication/Sharing: Continuous, open dialogue and mutual sharing of secrets, plans, and visions.
[ THE THREE DIMENSIONS OF KOINONIA ]

[ INTIMACY ] [ PARTNERSHIP ] [ COMMUNICATION ]
Knowing His person Co-laboring in life Sharing thoughts & plans
The Holy Spirit is not an abstract, cold force, an influence, or an energy wave. He is a real Person! He has a mind, He has emotions, He has a will, and He possesses limitless wisdom.
He is the active Agent of the Godhead on earth today, sent to be your Comforter, Counselor, Helper, Intercessor, Advocate, Strengthener, and Standby (John 14:16 AMPC).
When you fellowship with Him, He ceases to be a theological concept or a distant stranger. He becomes your closest Companion—the One with whom you share your deepest thoughts, anxieties, ideas, and ambitions from the center of your heart.
IV. PRACTICAL STEPS: HOW TO ENGAGE THE INDWELLING SPIRIT DAILY
Walking with the Holy Spirit does not require complex religious rituals. It simply requires a continuous, active awareness of His indwelling presence. Here is how you bring this consciousness into your everyday routine:
[ DAILY SPIRITUAL ENGAGEMENT ]
|
+-----------------------------------+-----------------------------------+
| | |
v v v
[ TALK TO HIM CONSTANTLY ] [ LISTEN FOR HIS VOICE ] [ SHARE YOUR DECISIONS ]
Speak like He's right there Expect inner promptings Include Him in career, family, & plans
Speak to Him directly: Talk with Him as a living Person who is present with you right now. As you wake up in the morning, say, “Good morning, Holy Spirit! Thank You for guiding my steps today.”
Share your thoughts and plans: Before you sign that contract, make that financial investment, choose a life partner, or execute that project, consult Him! Ask: “Holy Spirit, what is Your direction on this matter?”
Listen for His inner voice: Because He dwells inside your spirit, His guidance usually comes as an inner intuition, a gentle whisper, or a quiet conviction in your heart.
Depend on His strength: When faced with difficult situations, remind yourself: “The Greater One lives inside me; therefore, I cannot fail or be defeated!” (1 John 4:4).
V. PRAYER
Dear Heavenly Father, I thank You from the depth of my heart for the glorious, indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit in my life. I rejoice knowing that I am never alone, abandoned, or helpless. I enjoy rich, unbroken fellowship with the Holy Spirit every moment of my life, walking in constant communion, guidance, and divine intimacy. I am fully conscious of His presence right now, and I receive His direction, supernatural wisdom, and strength for every decision and step I take today, in the matchless Name of Jesus. Amen.
VI. FURTHER STUDY SUMMARY
1 John 1:3 (KJV): Apostle John explains the ultimate objective of the Gospel message, stating that what the apostles saw and heard, they declared to others so that believers might enjoy rich fellowship with them, affirming that “truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ.”
John 14:16–18 (KJV): Jesus promises His disciples that He will pray the Father to give them another Comforter (Parakletos—One called alongside to help) to abide with them forever. He identifies Him as the Spirit of Truth, whom the world cannot receive, but whom believers know intimately because He dwells with them and shall be in them, ensuring they are never left as orphans.
1 Corinthians 3:16 (KJV): Paul delivers a powerful revelation regarding the believer’s identity, asking: “Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?”
VII. BIBLE IN ONE YEAR SUMMARY: ROMANS 4 & PSALMS 45–48
Romans 4: Paul uses Abraham and David to prove that justification is by faith alone, completely apart from the works of the Law. Abraham believed God before he was circumcised, proving that he is the spiritual father of all who believe—both Jew and Gentile. Paul highlights Abraham’s unshakeable faith when, considering his own aged body and Sarah’s dead womb, he did not waver at God’s promise through unbelief, but was fully persuaded that God was able to perform what He had promised. Consequently, his faith was counted to him as righteousness, just as our faith in the resurrected Christ is credited to us as righteousness today.
Psalms 45–48:
Psalm 45: A royal wedding psalm praising a majestic, fair King whose throne is forever and ever, whose scepter is righteous, and whose bride is adorned in fine gold of Ophir (prophetically pointing to Christ and the Church).
Psalm 46: A powerful declaration of trust in God as our refuge, strength, and an ever-present help in trouble, famously declaring: “Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.”
Psalm 47: A triumphant song calling all nations to clap their hands and shout to God with the voice of triumph as the great King over all the earth.
Psalm 48: A psalm celebrating the beauty, elevation, and security of Mount Zion, the city of the great King, praising God as her sure refuge and eternal Guide.
VIII. BIBLE IN TWO YEAR SUMMARY: EPHESIANS 4:11–16 & ISAIAH 49
Ephesians 4:11–16: Paul details the divine architecture of the Church, explaining that Christ gave fivefold ministry gifts—apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors, and teachers—for the equipping of the saints, for the work of ministry, and for the edifying of the body of Christ. The ultimate goal is for all believers to attain unity of faith, deep knowledge of the Son of God, and spiritual maturity, so they are no longer tossed to and fro by every wind of false doctrine. By speaking the truth in love, believers grow up into Christ in all things, as the whole body, joined together by every supporting joint, causes supernatural growth and edification in love.
Isaiah 49: A glorious messianic prophecy where the Messiah speaks of His calling from the womb to restore Jacob and bring God’s salvation to the ends of the earth. Though initially rejected, He is promised to be a light to the Gentiles and a covenant to the people. When Zion laments that the Lord has forgotten her, God responds with profound tenderness: “Can a woman forget her sucking child?… Yea, they may forget, yet will I not forget thee. Behold, I have graven thee upon the palms of my hands.” God promises that her barren places will be overflowing with returning children and that kings and queens will serve her.
