TRAIN YOURSELF IN THE WORD

MESSAGE BY: Pastor Chris Oyakhilome DSc DSc DD

MEMORISE: “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.”2 Timothy 2:15

I. THE CALL TO SPIRITUAL GROWTH: DELIBERATE TRAINING IN THE WORD

There is an urgent, divine trumpet call sounding across the global body of Christ today: a call for spiritual maturity. God is calling every born-again believer to grow, to become stronger, to stand established and unshakeable in the Word, and to operate with fearless boldness in the demonstration of their faith.

However, you must understand a fundamental spiritual reality: spiritual growth never happens by chance!

You do not wake up one day and suddenly find yourself mature, unshakable, and dominating circumstances. Spiritual authority and capacity do not accumulate automatically through passive church attendance or the passage of time. True spiritual advancement is the direct result of deliberate, disciplined training in the Word of God.

In 2 Timothy 3:16 (NIV), the Apostle Paul reveals the multi-dimensional utility of Scripture:

“All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness.”2 Timothy 3:16 NIV

Notice the word “training.” Just as an athlete enters a gymnasium to condition their muscles, build stamina, and sharpen their reflexes for competitive victory, the believer must enter the Scriptures to condition their human spirit!

You must give yourself to the Word consistently and purposefully until it completely shapes your thinking, overhauls your worldview, and conditions your subconscious responses to every eventuality.

As Paul urges in Romans 12:2:

And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind…”Romans 12:2

The Word of God is the only divine material given to us by Heaven to rebuild our mental faculties, tear down carnal strongholds, and realign our thinking with the realities of the Kingdom.

II. RENEWING THE MIND: THE ROCK-SOLID FOUNDATION

To illustrate the absolute necessity of building your life on the Word, the Lord Jesus presented a striking parable in Luke 6:47–48:

“Whosoever cometh to me, and heareth my sayings, and doeth them, I will shew you to whom he is like: He is like a man which built an house, and digged deep, and laid the foundation on a rock: and when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently upon that house, and could not shake it: for it was founded upon a rock.”Luke 6:47–48

Notice the sequence of actions Jesus highlights:

1: Heareth my sayings: Receiving the revelation of the Word into your spirit.

2: Doeth them: Putting the Word into active, deliberate practice through obedience.

3: Digged deep: Removing the loose dirt of human philosophy, traditions, and emotional opinions to reach solid rock.

When the inevitable storms of life arise—whether economic instability, health challenges, family crises, or societal opposition—the house built on the Rock does not collapse. The raging streams may beat vehemently against it, but it cannot be shaken!

Why? Because its structural integrity is not derived from human willpower or favorable environmental conditions, but from the unyielding, eternal nature of the Rock upon which it is anchored.

When you give yourself completely to the Word, you elevate your life above the shifting sands of human circumstances. You are no longer flustered, panicked, or intimidated by adverse reports. Instead of reacting in fear, you respond with the written Word, speak to the situation with authority, and command it to change!

III. AUTOMATIC FAITH RESPONSES: OVERCOMING FEAR AND DOMINATING CIRCUMSTANCES

When the Word of God saturates your spirit, a remarkable phenomenon occurs: faith becomes your automatic, instinctive reaction to crisis!

The average person, when confronted with a sudden crisis, reacts with fear, anxiety, or despair because their mind has been conditioned by the world. But when your spirit is saturated with the Word, out of the abundance of your heart your mouth speaks (Matthew 12:34). Your spiritual reflexes kick in immediately!

This divine mechanism is vividly illustrated in a famous testimony from the ministry of God’s general, William Branham.

A young man whose body had been terribly mangled and crushed in a devastating, tragic accident was brought before him. To human eyes, the situation was utterly hopeless—a scene of destruction capable of causing instant panic and grief.

Yet, because William Branham had trained his spirit in the Word, there was zero panic in him. He did not freeze in fear or beg God in terror. Without hesitation, he gathered the broken, mangled body in his arms, spoke the word of power, and commanded it to return to normal—and instantly, the body was miraculously restored!

This is the supernatural life you have been called to live! Fear is not a natural human weakness; it is a spiritual oppression. As 2 Timothy 1:7 declares:

For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.”2 Timothy 1:7

When you let the Word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom (Colossians 3:16), fear is utterly evicted from your environment. You walk with absolute, unwavering confidence, dominating every negative circumstance in your path!

IV. FROM MILK TO STRONG MEAT: EXERCISING YOUR SPIRITUAL SENSES

In Hebrews 5:12–14, the writer of Hebrews offers a profound, challenging instruction regarding spiritual maturity and training:

“For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat. For every one that useth milk is unskilful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe. But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.”Hebrews 5:12–14

Look at the phrase: “by reason of use have their senses exercised.”

This is the essence of spiritual training! You do not become skilful in the Word of righteousness by merely reading it once; you become skilful by putting it to use in daily situations!

In Joshua 1:8 (AMPC), God revealed the exact methodology for achieving supernatural success and wisdom:

This Book of the Law shall not depart out of your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, that you may observe and do according to all that is written in it. For then you shall make your way prosperous, and then you shall deal wisely and have good success.”Joshua 1:8 AMPC

Notice that making your way prosperous and dealing wisely in life is your responsibility! As you talk the Word, meditate on the Word, and act on the Word, you train your spirit to operate on Heaven’s level, unlocking perpetual victory in every endeavor.

V. PRAYER

Dear Heavenly Father, I thank You from the depth of my heart for the glorious gift of Your Word that builds, transforms, and trains me for a life of unending dominion. Your Word saturates my spirit today, producing unstoppable faith, holy boldness, and perpetual victory in all I do. I declare that Your Word is fruitful, effectual, and active in my life, prevailing over every negative circumstance as I speak it forth with authority, in the matchless Name of Jesus Christ. Amen.

VI. FURTHER STUDY SUMMARY

Joshua 1:8 (AMPC): God commands Joshua to keep the Book of the Law constantly in his mouth and mind. By meditating day and night and practicing its instructions, Joshua is empowered to make his own way prosperous and achieve exceptional, wise success.

2 Timothy 3:16–17 (KJV): Paul affirms that all Scripture is divinely inspired by God and provides comprehensive utility—doctrine, reproof, correction, and instruction in righteousness—so that the person of God may be fully mature, equipped, and thoroughly furnished for every good work.

Hebrews 5:12–14 (KJV): The writer rebukes believers who have remained spiritual infants dependent on milk despite the passage of time. He contrasts spiritual babes, who are unskilful in the Word, with mature adults who have actively exercised their spiritual senses to discern both good and evil.

VII. BIBLE IN ONE YEAR SUMMARY: ROMANS 7:7–25 & PSALMS 64–67

Romans 7:7–25: Paul explores the complex relationship between the Law, sin, and human nature. He clarifies that the Law itself is holy, just, and good, but it exposed human sinfulness and revealed the absolute power of the fallen nature. Paul describes the internal conflict experienced under the Law—where the desire to do good is present, but the capacity to perform it is lacking due to the indwelling law of sin. He cries out, “O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death?” before triumphantly testifying that deliverance comes exclusively through Jesus Christ our Lord!

Psalms 64–67:

Psalm 64: David prays for protection against secret plots, wicked tongues, and sudden arrows of the ungodly, declaring that God will shoot at them with an arrow and cause their own tongues to fall upon themselves, leading the righteous to rejoice in the Lord.

Psalm 65: A magnificent hymn of praise celebrating God as the Hearer of prayer who forgives transgressions, crowns the year with His goodness, fills the earth with abundance, and causes pastures and valleys to shout for joy.

Psalm 66: A joyful call to all lands to make a joyful noise unto God, sing forth the honor of His Name, and remember His mighty redemptive historical acts—such as turning the sea into dry land.

Psalm 67: A missionary prayer asking for God’s mercy and blessing so that His way may be known upon earth and His saving health among all nations, anticipating a harvest of global praise.

VIII. BIBLE IN TWO YEAR SUMMARY: EPHESIANS 5:17–24 & ISAIAH 54

Ephesians 5:17–24: Paul urges believers not to be unwise, but to understand what the will of the Lord is. He commands them not to be drunk with wine, which leads to debauchery, but to be continuously filled with the Holy Spirit—speaking to one another in psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in their hearts to the Lord. He instructs Christians to give thanks always for all things unto God the Father in the Name of Jesus Christ, submitting to one another in the fear of God, and outlines divine order for marriage, calling wives to submit to their husbands as unto the Lord.

Isaiah 54: A glorious prophetic promise of comfort and expansion for barren Zion. God commands her to sing, enlarge the place of her tent, and stretch forth her curtains, promising that her descendants will inherit the Gentiles and inhabit desolate cities. God reassures her that her Maker is her Husband—the Lord of hosts is His Name. Though He abandoned her for a brief moment in wrath, He promises to gather her with everlasting kindness and great mercies. God guarantees that no weapon formed against her shall prosper, and every tongue that rises against her in judgment she shall condemn!

IX. PROPHETIC DECREE

I decree and declare that on this Monday, August 3, 2026, a fresh, unquenchable passion for deliberate training in the Word of God is released into your spirit!

You step out of spiritual infancy and into full-fledged spiritual maturity and dominion!

Every trace of fear, doubt, anxiety, and panic is permanently uprooted from your mind and replaced by the rock-solid confidence of Christ!

As you meditate on the Scriptures and speak the Word with authority, your spiritual senses are razor-sharp!

No storm of life will shake your foundation, and no weapon formed against your health, family, career, or ministry shall prosper!

You walk in perpetual success, divine wisdom, and supernatural victory, manifesting the glory and power of God in every arena of life, in the mighty and matchless Name of Jesus Christ! Amen! Hallelujah!
