THE CONSUMING FIRE

MEMORISE: ” Understand therefore this day, that the LORD thy God is he which goeth over before thee; as a consuming fire he shall destroy them, and he shall bring them down before thy face: so shalt thou drive them out, and destroy them quickly, as the LORD hath said unto thee.” — Deuteronomy 9:3
I. THE DUAL NATURE OF HOLY FIRE
Welcome to Tuesday, September 15, 2026. Throughout my decades of walking with God and witnessing His mighty hand perform signs and wonders, my love for Him has grown deeper every single day. Yet, alongside that profound love stands an unshakeable, reverent fear of His holy majesty.
Modern theologians often argue that believers should never “fear” God, suggesting instead that we only owe Him casual admiration or respect. However, Holy Scripture repeatedly reminds us of a fundamental truth that must never be watered down: our God is a consuming fire (Deuteronomy 4:24, Hebrews 12:29).
In African culture, the elders say that even a mad dog recognizes fire and stays away from it. Fire does not compromise its nature for anyone; if you toy with it, you will get burnt. No believer in their right mind should ever treat God with casual flippancy, presumption, or irreverence:
A Wall of Protection: For those who walk in obedience, God’s fire acts as an impenetrable defense. As Zechariah 2:5 declares, God is a wall of fire round about His people and the glory in their midst.
A Weapon of Judgment: For persistent enemies and unrepentant wickedness, that exact same fire becomes an agent of swift, utter destruction.
II. THE RED SEA PRINCIPLE: PRESERVATION VS. PERDITION
The Dual power of God’s holy fire was vividly demonstrated during Israel’s exodus from Egyptian bondage, as recorded in Exodus 13:18–22 and Exodus 14:24–25:
Guidance and Warmth for God’s Children: God led the Israelites through the wilderness using a pillar of cloud by day and a pillar of fire by night. To Israel, that fire provided illumination in darkness, warmth in the cold desert nights, and clear divine direction.
Terror and Confusion for Israel’s Oppressors: When Pharaoh’s army pursued Israel into the Red Sea, the Lord looked down through that very same pillar of fire and troubled the host of the Egyptians, taking off their chariot wheels and causing total panic.
The pillar of fire preserved Israel safely to the opposite shore while completely consuming their oppressors in the depths of the sea.
As stated in today’s memory verse (Deuteronomy 9:3), the Consuming Fire goes before you today to level every stubborn mountain, dismantle every satanic roadblock, and destroy every agent of darkness seeking to capsize your destiny!
III. A WARNING AGAINST SIN AND MURMURING
While God’s consuming fire is designed to defend His covenant children, we must take solemn note of a sobering spiritual truth: His fire can turn against His own people if they harbor sin in their lives.
In today’s Bible reading (Numbers 11:1–3), after witnessing God’s miraculous deliverance at the Red Sea, the Israelites gave in to discontentment, complaining, and murmuring in the wilderness. Their ungrateful attitudes kindled the wrath of God:
The Fire at Taberah: The fire of the Lord burned among them, consuming those in the uttermost parts of the camp until Moses fell on his knees to intercede.
The Danger of Presumption: God expects His redeemed children to reflect His holiness (1 Peter 1:16). Murmuring, grumbling, bitterness, and secret sins invite judgment into places meant for glory.
Instead of complaining over temporary discomforts, cultivate an unwavering heart of gratitude. As 1 Thessalonians 5:18 instructs, in everything give thanks, for this is the perfect will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you!
IV. TWELVE POWERFUL PRAYER POINTS
Pray these prayer points with holy reverence, invoking the Consuming Fire over your life:
1: Thanksgiving for God’s Majesty: Heavenly Father, I worship You today as the Almighty, Sovereign God, and the Consuming Fire who reigns supreme over all creation!
2: Grace for Holy Reverence: Lord, deliver me from spiritual presumption and casual flippancy; impart into my heart a deep, holy, and reverent fear of Your Name!
3: Activation of the Wall of Fire: Father, let Your Holy Spirit encompass my family, home, health, and ministry as an impenetrable wall of fire, as promised in Zechariah 2:5!
4: Destruction of Satanic Roadblocks: Consuming Fire of God, go before me today and melt away every demonic opposition, blockage, and barrier hindering my progress!
5: Judgment Upon Persistent Adversaries: Lord, look down through Your pillar of fire upon every stubborn pursuer of my soul, troubling their ranks and granting me total victory!
6: Cleansing from Secret Sin: Father, let Your holy fire purge my heart, mind, and spirit from every trace of sin, lust, pride, and unrighteousness!
7: Deliverance from Murmuring and Discontent: Lord, deliver my tongue from complaining, grumbling, and unthankfulness; fill my mouth with continuous praises!
8: Intercession for Mercy: Father, wherever I have attracted Your displeasure through ungrateful words or actions, let Your mercy prevail over judgment today!
9: Supernatural Light and Direction: Holy Spirit, let Your pillar of fire illuminate my dark paths, granting me divine wisdom and clear direction for my future!
10: Protection Over God’s Church: Lord, let Your consuming fire purify the Body of Christ worldwide, casting out hypocrisy and establishing true holiness!
11: Anointing for Holy Living: Father, give me the grace to walk in absolute obedience and purity, keeping me under the safe shelter of Your divine presence!
12: Personal Request for Fire-Backed Breakthroughs: [Present your specific areas of need, asking the Consuming Fire to destroy every evil plan and grant you victory.]
V. BIBLE TEXT SUMMARY & FURTHER STUDY
Bible Text Summary: Numbers 11:1–3
While journeying through the wilderness, the people of Israel began complaining bitterly against the Lord. Hearing their ungrateful murmuring, God’s anger was kindled, and the fire of the Lord broke out among them, consuming individuals in the outer edges of the camp. Terrified, the people cried out to Moses for help. When Moses interceded in prayer before God, the fire was quenched. Moses named the place Taberah (meaning “burning” or “combustion”) to commemorate the event where the fire of the Lord burned among them.

Hosea 5–9
Hosea 5: God pronounces judgment upon the priests, the house of Israel, and the royal house for leading the nation into idolatrous snares at Mizpah and Tabor. Israel’s pride testifies against them, and their spirit of harlotry prevents them from returning to God. Even when they bring flocks and herds to seek the Lord, He withdraws from them because they have dealt treacherously. God declares He will be like a lion to Ephraim and a young lion to Judah, tearing them to pieces until they acknowledge their offense and seek His face in their affliction.
Hosea 6: The prophet urges the people to return to the Lord, expressing confidence that after two days He will revive them and on the third day raise them up. However, God exposes their fleeting repentance, describing their faithfulness as a morning cloud or early dew that vanishes quickly. God famously declares in verse 6: “For I desired mercy, and not sacrifice; and the knowledge of God more than burnt offerings.” The nation has transgressed the covenant like Adam, filling the land with bloodshed and idolatry.
Hosea 7: God desires to heal Israel, but the wickedness of Ephraim and Samaria is continually exposed. The leaders are inflamed with lust and deceit like an overheated oven, devouring their own rulers. Ephraim mixes himself with foreign nations like an unturned pancake—half-baked and useless. Foreigners devour his strength without him realizing it, and gray hairs cover him unnoticed. Instead of crying to God from the heart, they wail upon their beds and turn to Egypt and Assyria for help like a silly, senseless dove.
Hosea 8: God commands the trumpet to be blown because an enemy comes like an eagle against the house of the Lord for breaking His covenant. Though Israel cries “My God, we know thee!” they have rejected what is good. They set up kings and princes without divine approval and made idols of silver and gold for their own destruction. God rejects Samaria’s calf idol, declaring that “they have sown the wind, and they shall reap the whirlwind.” Israel has forgotten his Maker and built palaces, but God will send fire upon his cities.
Hosea 9: Israel is warned not to rejoice like other nations, for they have played the harlot against their God. The threshing floor and winepress will not feed them, and they will be exiled to Egypt and Assyria where they will eat unclean food. The days of punishment and retribution have arrived; the prophet is considered a fool and the spiritual man insane because of the great depth of their iniquity. Ephraim’s glory will fly away like a bird—no birth, no pregnancy, no conception. Even if they rear children, God will bereave them until not a man is left.
VII. HYMN 18: PRAISE TO THE LORD, THE ALMIGHTY
Praise to the Lord, the Almighty, the King of creation!
O my soul, praise Him, for He is thy health and salvation!
All ye who hear, brothers and sisters, draw near;
Praise Him in glad adoration.
Praise to the Lord, who doth prosper thy work and defend thee;
Surely His goodness and mercy here daily attend thee;
Ponder anew what the Almighty can do,
If with His love He befriend thee.
Praise to the Lord, who, when tempests their warfare are waging,
Who, when the elements madly around thee are ranging,
Biddeth them cease, turneth their fury to peace,
Whirlwinds and waters assuaging.
Praise to the Lord, who, when darkness and sin is abounding,
Who, when the godless do triumph, all virtue confounding,
Sheddeth His light, chaseth the horrors of night,
Saints with His mercy surrounding.
Praise to the Lord! O let all that is in me adore Him!

VIII. PROPHETIC DECREE
I decree and declare that on this Tuesday, September 15, 2026, the Consuming Fire of God goes before you as an unstoppable force of victory!
Every evil altar, satanic trap, generational curse, and dark obstacle standing along your path is burned to ashes by the fire of the Holy Ghost!
You are surrounded today by God’s impenetrable wall of fire—no weapon formed against you, your health, your career, or your family shall prosper!
Every spirit of complaining, murmuring, and spiritual lukewarmness is cast out of your heart; you walk in absolute holiness, divine favor, and perpetual thanksgiving, in the mighty Name of Jesus Christ! Amen! Hallelujah!
