THE GAINS OF GOD’S COVENANT PART 1

MESSAGE BY: Pastor E. A. Adeboye

MEMORISE: “Keep therefore the words of this covenant, and do them, that ye may prosper in all that ye do.”Deuteronomy 29:9

I. THE PRINCIPLE OF ROYAL RESTRAINT AND SURRENDER

Welcome to Sunday, August 16, 2026. In the book of Proverbs 31:1-9, Queen Bathsheba imparted timeless wisdom to her son, King Lemuel, outlining fundamental principles regarding the conduct of royalty. She explicitly warned him that kings must refrain from certain behaviors:
Giving Strength to Women: Avoiding moral compromise and lust that drain spiritual and leadership capacity.
Following Destructive Paths: Rejecting vices, corrupt alliances, and foolish decisions that ruin monarchs.
Indulging in Strong Drink: Abstaining from alcohol and intoxication that pervert judgment and cause leaders to forget divine laws.

The lesson is crystal clear: royal authority comes with non-negotiable boundaries. If a person indulges in actions forbidden for kings, they will either never ascend the throne or suffer public dethronement if they are already reigning.
In the same way, entering into a covenant with the King of kings demands intentional lifestyle restrictions and absolute surrender. To fully enjoy the extraordinary gains of God’s covenant, you must yield your willpower, ambitions, and daily conduct to His instructions. When you commit to serving God with undivided devotion and doing whatever He commands without hesitation, your life becomes a beacon of supernatural success! Sooner or later, onlookers will marvel at your elevation and ask: “What is the secret behind your supernatural progress?”

II. THE ANATOMY OF COVENANT PROSPERITY: DEUTERONOMY 28

Divine prosperity is not a result of luck, human manipulation, or mere wishful thinking; it is a direct covenant benefit triggered by obedience. In our scripture reading from Deuteronomy 28:1-14, God outlines the sweeping magnitude of blessings earmarked for covenant keepers:
And all these blessings shall come on thee, and overtake thee, if thou shalt hearken unto the voice of the LORD thy God. Blessed shalt thou be in the city, and blessed shalt thou be in the field… The LORD shall make thee the head, and not the tail; and thou shalt be above only, and thou shalt not be beneath…”Deuteronomy 28:2, 13
Notice the comprehensive scope of these covenant gains:
Territorial Dominance: You are blessed both in the city (corporate/urban centers) and in the field (agricultural/business sectors).
Fruitfulness and Productivity: Divine multiplication touches your body, your career, your investments, and your storehouses.
Supernatural Protection: Enemies who gather against you in one direction are scattered before your face in seven directions!
Global Distinction and Leadership: You become a lender to nations, occupying top positions of authority rather than remaining at the bottom.

This multidimensional prosperity was vividly demonstrated in the lives of the patriarchs who walked in covenant with God:
Abraham: Was blessed in all things—spiritually, materially, and socially (Genesis 24:1).
Isaac: Prospered, continued to grow, and became exceedingly great even during severe famine (Genesis 26:12-13).
Jacob: Increased exceedingly, acquiring vast herds, servants, and wealth despite laban’s exploitation (Genesis 30:43).

III. GENERATIONAL FRUITION: THE RCCG COVENANT TESTIMONY

Human observers frequently try to attribute spiritual success to natural factors such as intellect, strategic planning, or academic qualifications. Pastor Adeboye clarifies this misconception using the history of the Redeemed Christian Church of God:
“Many people attribute the remarkable progress of RCCG to my academic background; however, they are unaware that we are reaping the benefits of the founder’s covenant with God. God called the founder of the church, Pa Josiah Akindayomi, a man who never attended school, and told him that if he could meet certain conditions, He would establish a church through him that would spread around the world. God helped Pa Akindayomi, and before his death, he fulfilled all the conditions that God gave him. Today, the RCCG is present in over 195 nations worldwide.”
This global movement stands not as a monument to human genius, but as living proof of God’s unshakeable covenant integrity! God called an uneducated man, established strict terms of holiness and consecration, and promised global expansion. Because Pa Akindayomi fulfilled his end of the agreement, God moved into action. Today, millions across more than 195 nations partake in the spiritual and material harvests of that single covenant!
God is no respecter of persons, nor can He be mocked (Galatians 6:7). If you align yourself with His covenant terms—walking in holiness, prompt obedience, and sacrificial service—He will pour out gains that surpass your highest expectations! As declared in 1 Timothy 6:17, God gives us all things richly to enjoy. Fulfill your covenant responsibilities today, and watch Him overflow your life with His glory!

IV. TWELVE POWERFUL PRAYER POINTS

Pray these targeted prayer points with authority, laying claim to your covenant inheritances:
1: Thanksgiving for Covenant Privileges: Heavenly Father, I thank You for inviting me into an everlasting covenant of peace, prosperity, and protection through Christ Jesus.
2: Grace for Absolute Obedience: Lord, give me a heart that listens attentively to Your voice and obeys Your instructions promptly and completely, in Jesus’ Name.
3: Restraint from Royal Vices: Father, grant me the discipline to abstain from every habit, compromise, or association that destroys spiritual royalty, in Jesus’ Name.
4: Activation of Territorial Blessings: By the power of God’s covenant, I declare that I am blessed in the city, blessed in the field, and blessed in all my endeavors!
5: Overwhelming Multiplication: Lord, let Your command of fruitfulness rest upon my career, business, finances, and family storehouses today, in Jesus’ Name.
5: Victory Over Spiritual Opponents: Every adversary rising up against my life and destiny, be smitten before my face and scattered in seven ways, in the Name of Jesus!
6: Elevation to Leadership: Father, fulfill Your covenant word in my life; make me the head and not the tail, above only and never beneath, in Jesus’ Name.
7: Anointing for Financial Surplus: Heavenly Father, open Your good treasure over my land; empower me to lend to nations and deliver me forever from borrowing, in Jesus’ Name.
8: Generational Covenant Impact: Lord, just as You honored Your covenant with Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and Pa Akindayomi, let my covenant walk bless my children and generations to come!
9: Breakthrough Over Famine and Scarcity: Every economic famine in the world, I decree that by covenant grace, I shall flourish and increase exceedingly like Isaac, in Jesus’ Name.
10: Sanctification and Consecration: Lord, purge my heart from all worldly distractions; set me apart as a holy vessel fit for the Master’s use, in Jesus’ Name.
11: Personal Covenant Petitions: [Present your specific requests where you desire to see God’s covenant prosperity and distinction manifest today.]

V. BIBLE TEXT SUMMARY & FURTHER STUDY

Bible Text Summary: Deuteronomy 28:1-14

This foundational text outlines the promises of the Mosaic covenant for obedience. God promises that if the Israelites diligently hear and obey His commandments, He will elevate them above all nations. The text details blessings upon their cities, crops, livestock, offspring, and daily activities. It guarantees victory over enemies, divine financial abundance, regular seasonal rain, global influence as lenders, and permanent elevation as the head rather than the tail, provided they do not turn aside to serve other gods.

VI. BIBLE READING PLAN

1-Year Bible Reading Plan

Jeremiah 40–43
Jeremiah 40: Nebuzaradan, captain of the Babylonian guard, releases Jeremiah at Ramah, offering him the choice to go to Babylon or stay in Judah. Jeremiah chooses to remain with Gedaliah, whom the king of Babylon appointed governor over the remaining poor in Judah. Johanan warns Gedaliah of an assassination plot by Ishmael, but Gedaliah refuses to believe him.
Jeremiah 41: Ishmael assassinates Gedaliah along with the Jews and Babylonians present at Mizpah. Ishmael slaughters additional pilgrims and takes captives, but Johanan and his forces confront Ishmael at Gibeon, rescuing the captives while Ishmael escapes to Ammon. Johanan leads the remnant toward Egypt out of fear of Babylonian retaliation.
Jeremiah 42: Johanan and the military commanders approach Jeremiah, swearing to obey whatever word the Lord gives regarding whether they should stay in Judah or go to Egypt. After ten days, God warns them through Jeremiah to remain in Judah under His protection and explicitly forbids them from fleeing to Egypt, warning that sword, famine, and pestilence will destroy them there.
Jeremiah 43: The arrogant leaders accuse Jeremiah of lying and claiming Baruch influenced him. Disobeying God’s direct warning, Johanan takes the remnant—including Jeremiah and Baruch—into Egypt at Tahpanhes. God instructs Jeremiah to bury large stones at the entrance of Pharaoh’s palace, prophesying that Nebuchadnezzar will place his throne over those stones and conquer Egypt.

VII. HYMN 30: WHEN WE WALK WITH THE LORD

When we walk with the Lord
In the light of His word,
What a glory He sheds on our way!
While we do His good will,
He abides with us still,
And with all who will trust and obey.
Refrain:
Trust and obey, for there’s no other way
To be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.
Not a shadow can rise,
Not a cloud in the skies,
But His smile quickly drives it away;
Not a doubt nor a fear,
Not a sigh nor a tear,
Can abide while we trust and obey.
(Refrain)
Not a burden we bear,
Not a sorrow we share,
But our toil He doth richly repay;
Not a grief or a loss,
Not a frown or a cross,
But is blest if we trust and obey.
(Refrain)
But we never can prove
The delights of His love
Until all on the altar we lay;
For the favor He shows,
For the joy He bestows,
Are for them who will trust and obey.
Then in fellowship sweet
We will sit at His feet,
Or we’ll walk by His side in the way;
What He says we will do,
Where He sends we will go;
Never fear, only trust and obey.
