REVERSING CURSES – THE TRANSFORMATION OF DESTINY

I. THE ANATOMY OF AN INVISIBLE BARRIER
As we navigate this Thursday, April 16th, 2026, the Holy Spirit is shining a light on a spiritual reality that many prefer to ignore, yet many suffer from: The Curse. Over the last few days, we have discussed how God can reverse laws, opportunities, and even death. Today, we focus on the “Reversal of Curses.”
A curse is a spiritual pronouncement that invokes supernatural power to bring about harm, limitation, or failure. In the physical realm, everything about a person’s life might look “pleasant” on the surface, yet there is a “but” that spoils the entire story. In 2 Kings 2:19, the men of Jericho said to Elisha: “Behold… the situation of this city is pleasant… but the water is naught, and the ground barren.” Jericho had a great location, beautiful scenery, and historical significance, but it was unproductive. Why? Because hundreds of years earlier, Joshua had placed a curse on whoever would rebuild the city (Joshua 6:26). Even though Joshua was long dead, his words were still “alive” and active in the soil and the water. This proves that a curse does not have an “expiration date” unless it is legally and spiritually reversed by a higher authority.
II. THE SOVEREIGNTY OF MERCY: THE CASE OF LEVI
One of the most profound examples of a reversed curse is found in the tribe of Levi. In Genesis 49:5–7, Jacob, the patriarch, was on his deathbed. Instead of blessing his sons Simeon and Levi, he cursed their anger, saying, “I will divide them in Jacob, and scatter them in Israel.” For years, this curse hung over the descendants of Levi like a dark cloud.
However, God is the Sovereign Judge. In Numbers 3:11–13, a dramatic reversal occurred. Because the Levites stood on the Lord’s side during a moment of national apostasy, God decided to overrule Jacob’s curse. He said, “I have taken the Levites… instead of all the firstborn… the Levites shall be mine.” * Jacob said they would be scattered (a sign of shame).

God said they would be separated unto Him (a sign of honor).
God turned a curse of wandering into a blessing of priesthood. This means that no matter what a “patriarch,” a “parent,” or a “prophet” has said over your life, God’s sovereign mercy can rewrite the script!
III. JABEZ: THE MAN WHO REFUSED THE LABEL
In 1 Chronicles 4:9–10, we meet Jabez. His name literally means “Sorrowful” or “Pain-maker.” His mother, in a moment of personal distress, labeled him with a curse at birth. For years, Jabez likely lived under the shadow of this name. He was “honourable,” yet his life was restricted.
Jabez realized that he couldn’t change his past or his mother’s words, but he could appeal to the God of the Reversal. He cried out for four things:

Bless me indeed: Reverse the sorrow.

Enlarge my coast: Remove the limitations.

Let Your hand be with me: Give me divine backing.

Keep me from evil: Protect me from the recurring cycle of the curse.
The Bible records one of the most beautiful sentences in scripture: “And God granted him that which he requested.” If God could reverse the “Sorrow” of Jabez, He can reverse the “Poverty,” “Sickness,” or “Barrenness” attached to your family name.
IV. THE LEGAL BASIS: THE CROSS OF CALVARY
Why are we so confident that curses can be reversed in 2026? Because of the legal work finished at Calvary. Our Memorise in Galatians 3:13 is the “Emancipation Proclamation” for every believer.
The Exchange: Jesus became a “curse” so that you could become a “blessing.
The Tree: He hung on the tree to absorb every generational, territorial, and spoken curse.
When you are “in Christ,” you are under a new jurisdiction. Just as Elisha cast salt into the spring of Jericho to heal the waters, the blood of Jesus has been cast into the “spring” of your lineage to heal your future. You are no longer a victim of your grandfather’s mistakes or your father’s idols. You have been redeemed!
V. COMPREHENSIVE Q&A: BREAKING THE CHAINS
Q1: How do I know if I am operating under a curse?
Answer: Look for “patterns” of irrational failure. If everyone in your family dies at a certain age, if marriages always fail at the same stage, or if money “disappears” despite hard work, these are signs of a “Jericho situation”—pleasant location, but barren ground. However, do not be afraid; recognition is the first step to reversal.
Q2: Can a curse be reversed if the person who spoke it is dead?
Answer: Yes. Joshua was dead, but Elisha reversed his curse. The power to reverse a curse lies in the Word of God, which is eternal. Elisha used a “new cruse” and “salt.” In 2026, your “new cruse” is your New Creation identity, and the “salt” is the Word of God in your mouth.
Q3: What role does ‘giving’ play in reversing curses?
Answer: Often, a curse creates a spirit of “tight-fistedness” because of fear. Breaking a curse often involves an act of sacrificial giving or “honoring the Lord” with your substance, which proves that you no longer trust in the “cursed earth” but in the “Heavenly Provider.”
VI. THE 2026 PROPHETIC VISION: HEALED WATERS
As we move through April 2026, I hear the Lord saying that this is the month of “Healed Springs.” * The “water” of your life—your influence, your health, your peace—is being purified.

The “barrenness” that has plagued your career is being commanded to cease.

Just as Elisha declared, “There shall not be from thence any more death,” I decree that the cycle of untimely death in your family is broken forever!
VII. REFLECTION & ACTION POINT
THOUGHT TO PONDER:
If the “cursed” city of Jericho could become a place of healing, is there any part of my history that is too “bitter” for God’s salt to fix?
ACTION POINT:
Look at the “water” of your life. Where is the “bitterness” or “barrenness”? Identify the recurring problems in your family. Today, take a bottle of water (representing your spring) or simply lift your hands and say: “In the Name of Jesus, I apply the Salt of the Word to my foundations. I renounce every generational label. Like Jabez, I cry out: Bless me indeed! Reverse the curse of [mention specific area] and turn it into a testimony today!”
PROPHETIC DECREE:
I decree today that every “Joshua-level” curse that has been speaking against your progress is SILENCED! I command the ground of your destiny to stop being barren! Because Christ was made a curse for you, I declare you IRREVERSIBLY BLESSED! I decree that your children will not inherit your struggles; they will inherit your songs! Every negative word spoken by a parent or an authority figure over your life is hereby canceled by the blood of the Lamb! From this Thursday, April 16th, 2026, your waters are healed, in Jesus’ Name!
PRAYER:
Father, I thank You because You are the Great Deliverer. I thank You for the finished work on the Cross. Lord, I come against every curse—generational, parental, or self-inflicted—that is working against my life. By the blood of Jesus, I reverse the decree of sorrow and barrenness. Like Elisha, I speak to my foundations: ‘Be healed!’ Let there be no more death or failure in my camp. Turn my Jabez-experience into a ‘More Honourable’ testimony. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
