LET YOUR SPIRIT TAKE THE LEAD

MESSAGE BY: Pastor Chris Oyakhilome DSc DSc DD

MEMORISE: “For God is my witness, whom I serve with my spirit in the gospel of his Son…”Romans 1:9

I. THE SEAT OF GENUINE KINGDOM SERVICE

The Apostle Paul introduces us to a majestic, operational secret of the Kingdom of God in the opening chapter of his letter to the Romans. He declares that his service to God is performed with his spirit. This is a highly profound, paradigm-shifting revelation for the Church of Jesus Christ. It identifies the exact location from which all true service, worship, and ministry to the Father must emanate.

True service to God is not a product of physical exertion, human intellectualism, or emotional excitement. You do not serve God with your physical body, nor do you serve Him with your soulish mind.

The Lord Jesus Christ established the uncompromised rule of spiritual engagement in John 4:24: “God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.” Because God is a Spirit, He does not relate with your physical flesh or your analytical intellect. Your fellowship with Him is strictly spiritual; therefore, your service must flow from the depths of your inner man.

When you were born again, your physical body did not undergo a cellular change, and your human mind was not instantly reprogrammed with divine database files. The miraculous transformation occurred exclusively in your spirit.

As 2 Corinthians 5:17 declares, “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature…” That new creation is your human spirit. That is where the uncreated life of God (Zoe) is housed.

II. THE ANOMALY OF THE UNRENEWED MIND

This foundational truth explains a major mystery that confuses many believers: Why can a person be genuinely born again, filled with the Holy Spirit, yet still struggle with carnal habits, explosive tempers, negative thoughts, or old patterns of lifestyle?

The answer is simple: while their spirit has been completely recreated, their mind has not yet been renewed, and their physical body has not been brought under control.

Your spirit became instantly perfect at salvation, but your mind and body remained exactly the same as they were before you met Christ. This is why the Holy Spirit commands us in Romans 12:2: “And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind…”

Your spirit is already alive to God, but your mind is like a computer that needs to be systematically reprogrammed with the Word of God. Your physical body also must be forcefully presented as a living sacrifice (Romans 12:1).

The question is: Who does the presenting? It is your spirit! Your spirit is the real you. Your spirit is the master, your mind is the processor, and your body is the physical container. Your spirit must take the driver’s seat, influence your mind with the Word, and compel your physical body to submit to divine instruction.

III. THE DEPENDABLE GUIDE: ONE WITH THE HOLY GHOST

If you do not actively allow your spirit to take the lead in your daily life, your physical senses will automatically take control. You will find yourself ruled by transient feelings, seasonal moods, physical symptoms, and outdated secular philosophies. But that is completely below the higher life of glory to which you have been called.

You are designed to live from the inside out. Your human spirit is a highly dependable guide because, at the moment of the new birth, your spirit was permanently fused and mingled with the Holy Spirit.

The Scripture confirms this supernatural union in 1 Corinthians 6:17: “But he that is joined unto the Lord is one spirit.” You are not separate from Him!

The Holy Spirit lives inside your spirit, guiding your thoughts, directing your decisions, and defining your responses to the crises of life. When you train your spirit to lead, you will no longer react to bad news with fear, nor will you respond to provocation with anger. You will view your world through the lens of the spirit and dominate every natural circumstance from the platform of victory.

IV. ENFORCING SPIRITUAL INFLUENCE

Make a conscious quality decision today to stop taking orders from your physical body and your unrenewed mind. When your body suggests sickness, fatigue, or depression, let your spirit answer with the Word of God.

Spend quality time feeding your spirit on scriptures, praying intensely in tongues, and meditating on your new creation identity. As you do this, your spirit will grow strong, your mind will align with the thoughts of God, and your body will have no choice but to manifest the divine health, strength, and glory resident within you. Step up today and let your spirit lead!

V. PRAYER

Dear Heavenly Father, I thank You for the glorious reality of the new creation life that is resident within my spirit. I rejoice because the Holy Spirit has made my spirit His permanent home, mingling Himself with my inner man to make my spirit a highly dependable guide. Today, I declare that my mind is systematically renewed by the Word of God, and my physical body is brought into absolute subjection to the dictates of the Spirit. I refuse to be ruled by feelings or circumstances; I rule my world from within, moving from glory to glory, in Jesus’ mighty Name. Amen.

VI. FURTHER STUDY SUMMARY

John 4:23-24 (NKJV): Jesus declares that a pivotal dispensation has arrived where true worshippers must bypass natural forms and worship the Father in spirit and truth. This is the exact pattern of worship that God seeks, because God is Spirit, and those who approach Him must do so through the medium of their recreated spirit.

Romans 12:1-2: Paul urges believers to present their physical bodies as holy and acceptable living sacrifices to God, which is their logical spiritual service. He commands them to resist copying the behaviors and customs of this world, but to be completely transformed by the renewing of their minds so they can recognize and fulfill God’s perfect will.

Romans 8:12-13: The Scripture states that believers have no obligation to live according to the dictates of the flesh. If anyone lives according to the flesh, they are headed for spiritual death; but if through the power of the Holy Spirit they paralyse and mortify the deeds of the body, they shall live.

VII. BIBLE IN ONE YEAR SUMMARY: ACTS 22:22–23:11 & JOB 36–39

Acts 22:22–23:11: The Jewish crowd erupts in anger at Paul’s mention of his mission to the Gentiles. The Roman commander orders Paul to be brought into the barracks and examined under whipping, but Paul halts the torture by declaring his status as a born Roman citizen. The next day, Paul is brought before the Jewish Sanhedrin. Recognizing that the council is composed of both Sadducees and Pharisees, Paul strategically declares that he is on trial for his hope in the resurrection of the dead, causing a massive dispute between the two sects. The commander rescues Paul from the ensuing chaos. That night, the Lord Jesus stands by Paul, encouraging him and declaring that just as he has testified in Jerusalem, he must also bear witness in Rome.

Job 36–39: Elihu continues his defense of God’s justice, describing how God uses suffering as a tool to instruct and deliver humanity. He exalts God’s infinite power manifested through the rain, thunder, and snow. Suddenly, the Lord Himself answers Job out of a roaring whirlwind. God challenges Job’s understanding, asking him where he was when the foundations of the earth were laid, who shut in the sea, and who commands the morning. God displays His absolute sovereignty by listing the complex workings of the cosmos, the constellations, and the wild animal kingdom, utterly exposing the limits of human wisdom and strength.

VIII. BIBLE IN TWO YEAR SUMMARY: GALATIANS 4:1–11 & ISAIAH 34

Galatians 4:1–11: Paul compares a child who is an heir to a slave, noting that as long as the heir is underage, he is under guardians and managers until the time set by his father. He explains that before Christ came, humanity was in spiritual slavery to the elemental forces of the world. But when the set time had fully come, God sent His Son to redeem those under the law, so that we might receive the full rights of sonship. Because we are sons, God has sent the Spirit of His Son into our hearts, crying, “Abba, Father!” Paul expresses deep concern that the Galatians, having known God, are turning back to weak, miserable spiritual principles by observing special days, months, seasons, and years.

Isaiah 34: The prophet delivers a stark, dramatic prophecy of judgment against all the nations of the earth, particularly Edom. The text describes the indignation of the Lord against the armies of the world, resulting in a total collapse of their power. The land is predicted to become a desolate wasteland, inhabited only by desert creatures, wild beasts, and birds of prey, demonstrating the sovereign execution of God’s written word.

IX. PROPHETIC DECREE

I decree and declare that on this Tuesday, July 14, 2026, the supernatural life of God in your spirit breaks out and dominates every carnal habit, physical limitation, and mental anxiety trying to govern your life! I command your spirit to receive a fresh injection of apostolic boldness and kinetic power from the Holy Ghost right now!

You will no longer be a victim of your feelings, your moods, or your environment.

I decree that your mind is supernaturally illuminated by the Word of God, and your body is fully aligned with the frequency of divine health and strength. Your spirit is taking the absolute lead in your career, your family, and your academic pursuits. You will walk in dominion, reign over circumstances, and manifest the matchless glory of Jesus Christ everywhere you go today, in His mighty and conquering Name! Amen! Hallelujah!
