YOUR SPIRIT IS THE MOST HOLY PLACE

MESSAGE BY: Pastor Chris Oyakhilome DSc DSc DD

MEMORISE: “Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?”1 Corinthians 3:16

I. THE ANCIENT SHADOW: ANATOMY OF THE EARTHLY TABERNACLE

In the Old Testament dispensation, God commanded Moses to construct a sanctuary according to a precise heavenly pattern. This physical tabernacle, and later the magnificent temple built by Solomon, was structured into three distinct, highly regulated geographical compartments:

The Outer Court: This was the outermost, public area where the bronze altar of burnt offering and the bronze laver stood. It was a place of activity, animal sacrifices, and physical preparation.

The Holy Place: Located past the first veil, this inner chamber was reserved strictly for the ministering priests. It contained the golden lampstand, the table of showbread, and the golden altar of incense.

The Most Holy Place (The Holy of Holies): This was the innermost chamber, a room of absolute silence and supreme holiness. It was separated from the Holy Place by a massive, intricately woven, thick veil.

Within the Most Holy Place stood the Ark of the Covenant, overlaid with gold, housing the tablets of the law, the golden pot of manna, and Aaron’s rod that budded. Upon the Ark rested the Mercy Seat, overshadowed by the wings of the golden cherubim.

This innermost sanctuary was the exclusive, highly restricted geographical location of God’s manifest presence on earth. No ordinary citizen could enter it; even the regular priests were forbidden access. Only the High Priest could step beyond that thick veil, and that was restricted to just once a year on the solemn Day of Atonement (Yom Kippur), and never without the blood of animal sacrifices.

When the High Priest entered, the literal, raw glory of the Almighty God—the Shekinah—would manifest above the Mercy Seat. The average Israelite never saw this glory; they only observed its effects from a distance. Yet, this entire, complex physical structure was not designed merely to be a historical monument or a religious center. It was a physical blueprint, a prophetic shadow pointing toward a far more glorious, permanent spiritual reality.

II. THE ANTHROPOLOGICAL MAPPING: YOU ARE THE SANCTUARY

The New Testament pulls back the curtain on this ancient design to reveal a mind-blowing truth: The physical temple of the Old Covenant was a architectural prototype of the recreated New Creation.

Through the Apostle Paul, the Holy Spirit declares in 1 Corinthians 3:16, “Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?”

When you align this with the biblical revelation of human triune nature as outlined in 1 Thessalonians 5:23 (spirit, soul, and body), the structural mapping becomes instantly clear:

Physical Tabernacle (OT) ---> Human Architecture (NT)
------------------------ -----------------------
1. The Outer Court ---> The Physical Body
2. The Holy Place ---> The Soulish Mind / Intellect
3. The Most Holy Place ---> The Recreated Human Spirit

Your physical body represents the Outer Court—the physical vehicle through which you interact with the material world. Your soul (comprising your mind, will, and emotions) represents the Holy Place—the arena of intellectual reasoning, choice, and emotional processing.

But your human spirit is the exact, literal equivalent of the Most Holy Place—the Holy of Holies.

This means that the Holy of Holies is no longer a geographical coordinate in Jerusalem. It is not a building made of stone, gold, or cedar wood. The authentic Holy of Holies is your recreated human spirit!

The very same raw, uncreated, limitless presence of God that once dwelt behind the heavy, physical veil of Solomon’s temple has now migrated. At the moment you were born again, God moved out of physical boxes and permanently moved into your spirit!

III. THE RIPPED VEIL AND THE PERMANENT RESIDENCY

When Jesus Christ cried out on the cross of Calvary, “It is finished!” and yielded up His spirit, a catastrophic, revolutionary event occurred in the physical temple. The Bible records that the massive, thick veil separating the Holy Place from the Holy of Holies was torn in two from top to bottom (Matthew 27:51).

This was not an act of vandalism; it was a divine eviction notice. By tearing that veil, God was declaring that He would never again dwell in temples made by human hands. The old barrier of separation was forever abolished.

Through the redemptive work of Christ, the barrier of sin was destroyed, allowing the Holy Spirit to take up permanent residency inside the human spirit. As 1 Corinthians 6:19 states, “What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?”

In the Old Covenant, the High Priest had to travel from the outside inward to catch a fleeting glimpse of God’s presence. But today, under the New Covenant, the ministry of the Holy Spirit does not originate from the outside. The presence is resident within your spirit.

God’s Word is engraved upon your heart, His eternal glory is saturated inside your inner man, and the very Kingdom of God is located in your spirit (Luke 17:21). You do not need to beg, cry, or crawl your way into God’s presence. You are His presence! You have become the living, breathing, walking headquarters of the Almighty.

IV. PRACTICAL SPIRITUAL ACTION: LIVING FROM WITHIN

How should this profound reality change the way you live your daily life?

First, it must completely transform your prayer life. Stop praying as though God is a distant, remote deity sitting light-years away in the cosmos, waiting for you to shout loud enough to get His attention.

When you close your eyes to pray, do not look outward or upward to the sky; look inward to your spirit. You are not trying to “enter” His presence; you are praying from His presence. You carry the atmosphere of heaven inside you everywhere you go.

Second, it must change where you look for guidance, direction, and solutions. When you face a crisis, a financial challenge, or a health issue, do not run around in panic seeking external opinions or human advice. The Holy Spirit, who knows all things, lives inside your personal Holy of Holies. He speaks to you from your spirit.

Quiet your soul, silence the noise of the physical world, and listen to the promptings, whispers, and illuminations rising from your spirit. You have an internal counselor, an internal guide, and an internal source of victory. Walk with this supreme consciousness today, and watch your life move from glory to glory!

V. PRAYER

Dear Heavenly Father, I thank You for the mind-blowing, transcendent reality of the New Covenant. I thank You for making my recreated human spirit Your personal Holy of Holies—Your permanent, living temple. I am deeply conscious today that Your raw presence, Your eternal wisdom, and Your unlimited power dwell in my spirit. I refuse to look to the physical world for direction or strength; I look within. From the depths of my spirit, I receive supernatural guidance, perfect clarity, and the courage to dominate every circumstance. I step out today to manifest Your glory, Your beauty, and Your righteousness to my world, in the matchless Name of Jesus. Amen.

VI. FURTHER STUDY SUMMARY

1 Corinthians 6:19 (KJV): The Apostle Paul challenges the ignorance of carnal believers by reminding them that their physical body is the sacred temple of the Holy Spirit, who was given to them by God Himself. Therefore, believers do not belong to themselves; they are God’s exclusive property.

Hebrews 9:1-4 (KJV): The writer of Hebrews outlines the structural regulations of the first covenant, detailing the earthly sanctuary. He describes the outer room containing the lampstand, table, and showbread (the Holy Place), and the inner room behind the second veil called the Holy of Holies, which housed the golden altar of incense and the gold-covered Ark of the Covenant containing the golden jar of manna, Aaron’s budded staff, and the stone tablets of the covenant.

1 Thessalonians 5:23 (KJV): Paul prays a comprehensive blessing of sanctification over the saints, praying that their entire triune being—composed of spirit, soul, and body—be kept entirely blameless, preserved, and healthy until the glorious return of our Lord Jesus Christ.

VII. BIBLE IN ONE YEAR SUMMARY: ACTS 23:12–35 & JOB 40–42

Acts 23:12–35: A conspiracy arises in Jerusalem where more than forty Jewish men bind themselves with an oath not to eat or drink until they have assassinated Paul. Paul’s nephew overhears the plot and reports it directly to the Roman commander. Taking swift action to protect a Roman citizen, the commander organizes an elite military escort of 470 soldiers (spearmen, cavalry, and soldiers) to transport Paul safely under the cover of night to Governor Felix in Caesarea. Upon receiving the official transfer letter and verifying Paul’s citizenship, Felix orders him to be kept under guard in Herod’s praetorium until his accusers arrive.

Job 40–42: The Lord continues His direct challenge to Job out of the whirlwind, demanding if Job can truly discredit His justice or subdue the primeval monsters, Behemoth and Leviathan, which represent untamable wild power. Utterly humbled, Job repents in dust and ashes, admitting he spoke of things he did not understand. The Lord then rebukes Job’s three friends for not speaking what is right about Him, instructing them to offer sacrifices and have Job pray for them. Once Job prays for his friends, the Lord restores his fortunes, giving him twice as much as he had before, crowning his final years with immense wealth, family, and peace.

VIII. BIBLE IN TWO YEAR SUMMARY: GALATIANS 4:12–20 & ISAIAH 35

Galatians 4:12–20: Paul makes a deeply personal, emotional appeal to the Galatians, urging them to become like him, free from legalism. He reminds them of how warmly they received him when he first preached the gospel to them in physical weakness, even being willing to tear out their own eyes for him. He questions why they have now turned cold toward him, warning them that the legalists are only trying to isolate them to control them. Paul passionately declares that he is in the pains of childbirth all over again until Christ is fully formed in their character.

Isaiah 35: Isaiah delivers a glorious, poetic prophecy of ultimate restoration. He describes a future where the dry wilderness and the desert will suddenly burst into beautiful blooms and shout for joy. The weak hands and feeble knees will be made strong. The eyes of the blind will be opened, the ears of the deaf unstopped, and the lame will leap like a deer. A holy highway called the “Way of Holiness” will be opened, where no unclean person will walk, and the redeemed of the Lord will return to Zion singing with everlasting joy, while sorrow and sighing flee away forever.

IX. PROPHETIC DECREE

I decree and declare that on this Wednesday, July 15, 2026, the supernatural glory of God residing in your inner man breaks forth and saturates your entire physical body! I command every trace of physical weakness, sickness, and depression to pack its bags and leave your body, which is the temple of the Holy Ghost!

You will no longer walk in confusion, doubt, or fear.

Because the Holy of Holies is located inside your spirit, I decree that divine wisdom, creative solutions, and supernatural direction are bubbling up from within you right now.

You shall not walk in darkness!

Every decision you make this week is guided by the Holy Spirit. You are highly protected, supernaturally backed, and fully authorized to display the beauty and excellence of Christ to your world, in the all-powerful and victorious Name of Jesus Christ! Amen! Hallelujah!
