WHEN HE IS IN THE BOAT (PART II) – BEYOND PERMISSION TO PARTNERSHIP

I. THE NECESSITY OF THE DIVINE PRESENCE

Yesterday, we established a foundational truth: having Jesus in your boat is the ultimate security against the storms of life. We looked at the Sea of Galilee and saw that even when the Master appears to be “asleep,” His mere presence on board guarantees that the ship cannot sink.

However, today the Holy Spirit is taking us a step further. It is one thing to have Jesus in the boat; it is another thing entirely to involve Him in the rowing, the steering, and the destination. Many believers carry Jesus as a “spare tire”—only calling on Him when they have a flat—but God is calling us into a life of constant, proactive partnership. As we navigate the complexities of 2026, you must move from seeking God’s permission to demanding His presence.

II. THE SONS OF THE PROPHETS: A LESSON IN INVITATION

In 2 Kings 6:1–7, we encounter the sons of the prophets. They were in a season of expansion. Their dwelling had become too “strait” (cramped) for them. This was a good thing—a sign of growth and progress.

1. Permission is Not Enough

They went to Elisha and asked for permission to go to Jordan to build a larger place. Elisha gave them his blessing: “Go ye.” At this point, many believers would have rushed off. They had the “go-ahead” from the man of God. But one of them was wiser than the rest. He said, “Be content, I pray thee, and go with thy servants” (v. 3).

He understood that having the Prophet’s permission was good, but having the Prophet’s presence was vital. He knew that the journey to Jordan was fraught with risks, and he didn’t want to go alone.

2. The Crisis at Jordan

Because Elisha was there, when the “unthinkable” happened—an iron axe head falling into the murky depths of the Jordan—the solution was immediately available. In the natural, iron does not swim. It is a physical impossibility. But because the “Presence” was in their boat (and on their shore), the supernatural overrode the natural. The man cried out, “Alas, master! for it was borrowed,” and Elisha made the iron swim.

III. THE UNIVERSALITY OF LIFE’S STORMS

You must realize that no one is exempt from the “axe head falling into the water.” Whether you are an Apostle, a CEO, a student, or a retiree, storms are a part of the human experience.

• Sickness can strike the most health-conscious.

• Economic delays can affect the most brilliant entrepreneurs.

• Grief can visit the holiest of homes.

The difference between those who drown and those who swim is not the absence of the storm, but the involvement of the Savior. If you decide to lean on your own understanding (Proverbs 3:5-6) and treat Jesus as a figurehead rather than a Partner, you are sailing into dangerous waters.

IV. THE DAVIDIC PROTOCOL: “ALWAYS BEFORE ME”

King David provides the perfect model for 2026 in our memory verse: “I have set the LORD always before me” (Psalm 16:8).

Note the word “Always.” David didn’t wait for a crisis to involve God. He put God at the forefront of his morning, his midday, and his evening. Because God was at his “right hand” (the position of the advocate and the protector), David could boldly declare, “I shall not be moved.” If you want to be unshakeable in an unstable world, you must adopt the Davidic Protocol. Involve God in the small things—the choice of your clothes, the tone of your emails, the route you take to work—and He will be there for the big things.

V. COMPREHENSIVE Q&A: INVOLVING JESUS FULLY

Q1: How do I practically ‘involve’ Jesus in my business or career?

Answer: It starts with the “Consultancy of Prayer.” Before you sign a contract or hire a new staff member, ask: “Lord, what do You think about this?” Listen for that inner witness. When Jesus has the “final say,” He takes responsibility for the outcome.

Q2: What if I am already in the middle of a ‘sinking’ situation because I didn’t involve Him at the start?

Answer: Cry out! The man at Jordan cried, “Alas, master!” and the disciples in the storm cried, “Save us!” It is never too late to invite the Master into the mess. He is a specialist at “making the iron swim.” If you surrender the control now, He can still turn the situation around.

Q3: Does involving God mean everything will be easy?

Answer: No. The axe head still fell even though Elisha was there. The storm still raged even though Jesus was in the boat. Involving God doesn’t mean you won’t face challenges; it means the challenges won’t have the final word. It means you are guaranteed a victory in the end.

VI. THE 2026 PROPHETIC CHALLENGE: BEYOND FIGUREHEAD CHRISTIANITY

The church in 2026 is full of people who have Jesus as a “figurehead.” He is on the letterhead, but He is not in the boardroom. He is in the “Memory Verse,” but He is not in the “Memory.”

The Lord is saying to you today: “Let Me have the final say.”

• In your marriage: Let His Word be the final arbiter of your conflicts.

• In your health: Let His report be the one you believe.

• In your finances: Let His principles of tithing and giving be your economic policy.

When He has the final say, you become an associate of the God-kind, operating in the realm of “iron-swimming” miracles.

VII. REFLECTION & ACTION POINT

THOUGHT TO PONDER:

Is Jesus just a passenger in my boat, or is He the Captain? Have I embarked on any project lately with only His “permission” but without His “presence”?

ACTION POINT:

Review Your Projects: List the things you are currently working on. Have you specifically invited Jesus into each one?

The Davidic Prayer: Throughout today, practice saying, “Lord, I set You before me in this.” (In this meeting, in this conversation, in this commute).

Recover the Axe Head: If there is a “borrowed” or “lost” thing in your life that has sunk, cry out to Jesus today. Ask for a supernatural recovery.

PRAYER:

Lord Jesus, I thank You because You are the Rock of Ages. I hide myself in You today. Forgive me for the times I have leaned on my own understanding and excluded You from my decisions. Today, I set You before me. I invite You into my boat, not just as a passenger, but as the Captain. Have the final say in my family, my career, and my health. Lord, make the ‘iron swim’ in my situation. Let Your presence be my guarantee of victory, in Jesus’ name. Amen.

PROPHETIC DECREE:

I decree today that you shall not sink! Because you have chosen to involve the Lord in all your ways, your path shall be made straight! I command every “lost axe head” of your destiny—your joy, your finances, your peace—to swim back to the surface now by the power of the Holy Spirit! I decree that as you set the Lord before you, you shall be unmovable. No storm of 2026 shall prevail against you. You are moving from a life of struggle to a life of supernatural ease, in the mighty Name of Jesus!
