THE URGENCY OF DESTINY: START YOUR CALLING EARLY
SCRIPTURAL ANCHORS:
“And say to Archippus, Take heed to the ministry which thou hast received in the Lord, that thou fulfil it.” — (COLOSSIANS 4:17)
“And he said unto them, How is it that ye sought me? wist ye not that I must be about my Father’s business?” — (LUKE 2:49)
I. THE IRREVERSIBLE COMMODITY: TIME AND DESTINY
As we enter the second full week of May 2026, the Holy Spirit brings a message of profound urgency to the Body of Christ. One of the greatest responsibilities resting upon the shoulders of every believer is the discovery and pursuit of their divine calling. There is a prevalent deception in the modern world that “purpose” is something you find in your twilight years, or something to be considered only after your personal ambitions have been satisfied.
However, calling is not a retirement plan; it is a life mandate. Many people live for decades without ever recognizing what God ordained them to do. By the time they eventually glance toward their spiritual assignment, the sun is already setting on their physical strength and opportunities. Calling is not a pursuit to be postponed until a “convenient season.” The Scripture provides a sharp, non-negotiable instruction: “Take heed… that thou fulfil it.” This reveals that a calling is not self-actualizing. It will not fulfill itself automatically while you sleep or wander. It requires attention, commitment, and, most importantly, early alignment.
II. THE FIVE STAGES OF THE CALLING JOURNEY
Fulfilling God’s will is a process that demands an early start because of the specific stages one must pass through. If you start late, you may find yourself trying to “find” your calling at a time when you should already be “giving account” for it.
1. Discovery: Finding the Path
This is the stage of recognition. It is where you move from general Christian living to specific spiritual intelligence. It is about identifying the unique direction and purpose God has woven into your DNA. You cannot run a race if you haven’t found the track.
2. Acceptance: Embracing the Weight
Discovery is intellectual, but acceptance is emotional and spiritual. Many people “see” what God wants but hesitate to embrace it because they fear the sacrifice, the cost, or the change in lifestyle it demands. Acceptance is saying “Yes” to the responsibility before the reward is visible.
3. Taking Heed: The Training Phase
Once accepted, you must “take heed.” This is the classroom of destiny. At this stage, you begin to study, learn, apprentice, and prepare. You order your life around the assignment. You don’t just “jump” into the ministry; you grow into the capacity required to hold it.
4. Fulfillment: The Execution
This is the active phase—carrying out the duties God intended for your life. This is where the world feels the impact of your existence. This is the “business” of the Father being transacted through your hands.
5. Accountability: The Final Audit
At the end of the journey, every believer will stand before the Judgment Seat of Christ to give an account. The question will not be, “How much money did you make?” or “How famous were you?” but “What did you do with the ministry you received in the Lord?”
III. THE TWELVE-YEAR-OLD BENCHMARK: THE EXAMPLE OF JESUS
In Luke 2:49, we see the perfect model for an early start. At the age of twelve—a time when most children are focused only on play and growth—Jesus already possessed an acute understanding of His life’s direction.
When Mary and Joseph found Him in the temple after a frantic search, His response was not one of rebellion, but of identity. He asked, “Wist ye not that I must be about my Father’s business?” Even though eighteen more years of preparation in a carpenter’s shop lay ahead of Him, His heart was already “on the clock.” He wasn’t waiting for age thirty to “start” His calling; He was already ordering His life around the understanding of who He was.
The 2026 Application: Life is moving forward at an unprecedented speed. In a world of digital distractions, if you do not deliberately anchor your heart to your calling early, the current of the culture will sweep you into a life of “busy-ness” that has no “business” with the Father.
IV. COMPREHENSIVE Q&A: NAVIGATING THE EARLY START
Q1: What if I am already older and just discovering my calling? Is it too late?
Answer: While an early start is ideal, God is the “Redeemer of Time.” If you have discovered your calling late, you must compensate with intensity. You cannot afford to dally or be casual. You must move through the stages of acceptance and taking heed with accelerated diligence. Your “early” is now.
Q2: How do I practically ‘order my life’ around my calling while I still have a secular job?
Answer: Your secular job is the “Tent-making” that supports the “Ministry.” Ordering your life means that your decisions—where you live, who you marry, how you spend your weekends—are filtered through the lens of your calling. If an opportunity helps your calling, you take it; if it hinders it, you refuse it, regardless of the paycheck.
Q3: How do I know the difference between my personal ambition and God’s calling?
Answer: Ambition is about what you can do for yourself; Calling is about what God wants to do through you. Ambition seeks to be served; Calling seeks to serve a purpose. If your “dream” doesn’t require the Holy Spirit’s help, it’s probably just ambition.
V. THE 2026 PROPHETIC CHALLENGE: TAKE HEED!
The instruction to Archippus in Colossians 4:17 is a word for every believer today:
1: Stop Postponing: The “perfect time” to start your Father’s business is today. Tomorrow is a promissory note that may never be cashed.
2: Commit to Preparation: If you know you are called to lead, start studying leadership. If you are called to the prophetic, start dwelling in the Word. Don’t wait for a title to begin the training.
3: Audit Your Days: Ask yourself, “Is the ‘business’ I am currently about my Father’s, or is it merely my own?”
The sooner you take heed to your calling, the more effectively you will be able to fulfill it. Don’t arrive at the end of your life only to find you were running a race God didn’t authorize.

THOUGHT TO PONDER:
Have I clearly recognized the calling God has placed on my life? Am I deliberately taking heed to it, or am I waiting for a “lightning bolt” moment while my years slip away?
ACTION POINT:
1: The Destiny Draft: Write down three things you know God has uniquely gifted you to do for His Kingdom. This is your “Father’s Business” list.
2: The Twelve-Year-Old Check: Regardless of your biological age, adopt the attitude of the twelve-year-old Jesus. Dedicate the first hour of your day this week strictly to the “Father’s Business” (Prayer and Word).
3: The Accountability Prayer: Ask God to show you where you have been wasting time on assignments that were never part of your calling.
PRAYER:
Father, I thank You for the privilege of a divine mandate. I recognize that I was not born by accident, but for a purpose. Lord, help me to recognize and accept the calling You have placed upon my life without hesitation. Give me the wisdom and diligence to ‘take heed’ to it now, and the grace to fulfill it faithfully. Forgive me for the years I spent chasing my own business while Yours was neglected. Today, I realign my life. I am about my Father’s business, in Jesus’ mighty Name. Amen.
