THE TEMPLE SERIES: 2026
BIBLE TEXT: GENESIS 34:1–31; GENESIS 46:15–34
MEMORY VERSE: “Don’t you know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own.” (1 CORINTHIANS 6:19)
I. THE DANGER OF THE “GARDEN WALL”: ANALYSIS OF GENESIS 34
The story of Dinah is a tragic account of what happens when boundaries are breached and the sanctity of the body is ignored.
The Innocent Curiosity (v. 1): Dinah went out “to see the daughters of the land.” While curiosity is natural, we must be careful about the “land” we wander into. For a child of God, being in the wrong place at the wrong time can expose us to people who do not respect God’s laws.
The Violation (v. 2): Shechem, a prince of the country, saw her and “took her, and lay with her, and defiled her.” This was an act of Sexual Immorality. It was the taking of something sacred outside of the boundary of marriage.
The Deceptive “Love” (v. 3): Scripture says Shechem’s soul “clave” to her and he spoke “kindly” to her. We must learn that “kind words” after a “bad action” do not erase the sin. Immorality often wears a mask of affection, but it is still a violation of God’s temple.
The Chain Reaction of Violence (v. 25-31): The sin of one man (Shechem) led to the anger of many and the eventual slaughter of an entire city by Simeon and Levi. Sexual sin is never “private”; it creates a ripple effect of pain, anger, and trouble that can affect entire families.
II. DEFINING THE BOUNDARIES: WHAT IS SEXUAL IMMORALITY?
To keep our bodies holy, we must understand what constitutes a “disgraceful thing” (v. 7).
The Design: Sex is a beautiful gift created by God to be shared exclusively between a man and a woman who are legally and spiritually married to each other.
The Deviation: Sexual immorality is any sexual act outside of that marriage bond. This includes touching, looking at inappropriate images, or playing with private parts.
The Spiritual Reality: Sin is anything that displeases God. Because your body is the Temple of the Holy Spirit, when you engage in immorality, you are polluting the place where God lives.
III. THE “BODY SAFETY” SHIELD: A GUIDE FOR CHILDREN & YOUTHS
In 2026, the world often tries to tell children that they can do whatever they want with their bodies. But God says your body is His. Here is your safety protocol:
The “No-Touch” Rule: Your private parts (the areas covered by a swimsuit) are private. No one—not a friend, a stranger, or even a relative—has the right to touch them or ask you to touch theirs.
The “No-Secrets” Rule: If someone touches you in a way that makes you feel uncomfortable, confused, or sad, they might tell you it’s a “special secret.” God does not like secrets that hurt. You must tell a trusted adult (Parents, Pastor, or Teacher) immediately.
The “Shout and Run” Strategy: If you feel you are in a dangerous situation like Dinah was, do not be afraid to be “loud.” Shout for help, run to a safe place, and do not stop until you are with someone you trust.
The “Digital Guard”: Immorality can enter through the eyes. Be careful what you watch on phones or computers. If an image makes you feel “funny” or “ashamed,” turn it off.
IV. COMPREHENSIVE Q&A: WALKING IN PURITY
Q1: Why did Jacob say Simeon and Levi ‘troubled’ him?
Answer: While Shechem’s sin was terrible, Simeon and Levi responded with deceit and murder. Jacob realized that “Two wrongs do not make a right.” We must protect our purity, but we must also let God handle justice. Our goal is to live peaceably and holily.
Q2: If I have already done something “immoral” or been “defiled,” can I still be a Temple of God?
Answer: YES. This is the beauty of the Gospel. Romans 10:13 says, “Whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” If you have been hurt or if you have sinned, Jesus Christ died and rose again to wash you clean. He can make your temple brand new and holy again.
Q3: How do I stay “pure” when everyone around me is acting differently?
Answer: Remember your identity. You are not “one of the daughters/sons of the land”; you are a child of the King! Spend time in the Word (see the Daily Devotional below) to strengthen your spirit so you can say “No” to the world.
V. THE CHALLENGE: THE SANCTUARY DECREE
Sexual immorality is sinful and deadly. It steals joy, destroys reputations, and separates us from the presence of God.
Your Commitment: * I will not allow anyone to play with my body.
- I will not play with anyone else’s body.
- I will keep my thoughts and my eyes pure.
- I will remember that the Holy Spirit lives inside me!
VI. REFLECTION & PRAYER SUITE
INVITATION: If you haven’t asked Jesus to be your Savior and the “Landlord” of your temple, do it today! John 1:12: “But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God.”
PRAYER POINTS:
The Temple Cleansing: Lord Jesus, I thank You for my body. Wash me clean from every past mistake or hurt. I dedicate my body to be Your Holy Temple from this day forward, in Jesus’ Name!
The Hedge of Protection: Father, protect me from the “Shechems” of this world. Give me the wisdom to stay away from dangerous places and the courage to shout for help when I am in trouble, in Jesus’ Name!
The Spirit of Boldness: Lord, help me to be like Joseph who fled from sin. Give me the strength to say “No” to peer pressure and to keep my private parts private, in Jesus’ Name!
