THE INVISIBLE SHIELD: MERCY PROTECTS YOU FROM BEING CONSUMED

I. THE UNDERSTATED MYSTERY OF PRESERVATION

As we navigate the specific pressures of Wednesday, March 18th, 2026, many believers are caught in the trap of measuring God’s presence only by visible breakthroughs. We hunt for the dramatic—the sudden promotion, the instant healing, the loud testimony. While these are valid operations of God, there is a quiet, powerful, and often understated dimension of God’s character that is keeping you alive right now: Preservation through Mercy.

The Prophet Jeremiah, writing from a place of deep national and personal distress, hit upon a spiritual law that sustains the universe: “It is of the LORD’s mercies that we are not consumed.” This is not poetic fluff or ancient exaggeration; it is a clinical description of spiritual reality. To be “consumed” means to be eaten up, finished, or brought to a state of total non-existence. In a world characterized by unseen spiritual warfare, economic volatility, and the “roaring lion” seeking whom he may devour, the fact that you woke up today with your mind intact and your heart beating is a trophy of Mercy.

II. THE SILENT INTERVENTION: MERCY’S UNANNOUNCED WORK

One of the most profound truths taught by Rev. Olusola and Rev. Oyenike Areogun is that Mercy does not always announce itself. In our human nature, we want the “Angel of the Lord” to show up with a trumpet blast every time we are in danger. But more often than not, Mercy operates in the shadows of our lives.

• It is the car accident that didn’t happen because your keys were misplaced for thirty seconds.

• It is the terminal illness that didn’t develop because Mercy intercepted a genetic sequence.

• It is the “small mistake” at work that should have led to your dismissal, but for some “strange” reason, the boss decided to overlook it.

Long before you knelt to ask for help this morning, Mercy was already at work preventing your destruction. Mercy is God’s “Pre-emptive Strike” against the plans of the enemy. It enforces a divine boundary that says to the devourer: “Thus far you shall come, but no further.”

III. ABORTING THE PROGRESSION OF ESCALATION

The enemy, Satan, thrives on Escalation. His strategy is never just a single hit; it is a progression. He seeks to turn a moment of weakness into a lifetime of regret. He tries to turn a temporary financial setback into a permanent state of poverty. He attempts to turn a misunderstanding in a marriage into a divorce court.

Mercy interrupts that progression.

When the situation begins to spiral, Mercy steps in as the “Divine Circuit Breaker.” It refuses to allow your errors to become your epitaph. In Isaiah 49:15, God uses the most visceral human bond—a nursing mother and her child—to explain His commitment to you. He says that even if the impossible happens and a mother forgets her infant, He cannot forget you. This “cannot” is a legal restraint placed on God by His own compassion. He is committed to ensuring you are not consumed because His reputation is tied to your preservation.

IV. THE DOCTRINE OF DIVINE EXEMPTION

As you look back on your journey to 2026, you must conduct a “Mercy Audit.” Many of the things you survived were not due to your high IQ, your strategic planning, your physical fitness, or your “good luck.”

• You didn’t survive that crisis because you were “smart”; you survived because Mercy enforced a Divine Exemption. * You didn’t outlast that season of depression because you were “strong”; you outlasted it because Mercy created a hiding place for your soul.

There is a shield around the believer that operates even when we are unaware of it. This shield keeps you from being swallowed by circumstances that have finished others in your same position. When you realize this, you stop boasting in your strength and start boasting in His compassions which are “new every morning.”

V. COMPREHENSIVE Q&A: NAVIGATING LIFE UNDER THE SHIELD

Q1: If Mercy is protecting me, why do I still go through trials and pain?

Answer: Mercy protects you from being consumed, not necessarily from being tested. The Hebrew word for “consumed” implies a total end. You may go through the fire, but Mercy ensures you don’t smell like smoke. You may go through the water, but Mercy ensures you don’t drown. Trials build your character, but Mercy guards your life.

Q2: I have made so many mistakes lately. Does Mercy still cover me when the trouble is my own fault?

Answer: That is the very definition of Mercy! Grace is getting what you don’t deserve; Mercy is not getting what you do deserve. When your “small errors” should have led to “permanent losses,” Mercy steps in to say, “Give him another chance.” However, do not use Mercy as a license for rebellion, but as a reason for deep repentance and gratitude.

Q3: How do I activate this ‘Invisible Shield’ of Mercy daily?

Answer: You don’t “earn” Mercy, but you “draw near” to it. Hebrews 4:16 tells us to come boldly to the Throne of Grace, that we may obtain Mercy. Activation starts with acknowledgment. When you wake up, say: “Father, I thank You that Your mercies are new for me this morning.” Your gratitude anchors the protection.

VI. REFLECTION & PROPHETIC PRAYER

THOUGHT TO PONDER:

Have I recognized God’s mercy in the things that didn’t happen? If the enemy had his way, where would I be today? Let the realization of your survival fuel your trust for the future.

PROPHETIC DECREE FOR MARCH 18TH:

I decree over your life and household: The progression of destruction is halted! Every “spiral” intended to consume your peace, your health, or your finances is interrupted by the Mercy of God. You shall not be swallowed by the circumstances of 2026. Because Mercy has spoken for you, your destiny remains intact. You are rising, you are standing, and you are progressing!

PRAYER POINTS:

Thanksgiving for Preservation: Father, I thank You for the unseen dangers You have steered me away from. I thank You that I am still standing despite the arrows that fly by day.

Interruption of Evil Progressions: Lord, let Your mercy interrupt every plan of the enemy to escalate my mistakes. I declare that my errors will not become my end.

Divine Hiding Place: Father, hide me in Your pavilion. Surround me with the shield of Your compassion, that I may be exempt from the destructions that waste at noonday.

Trust for the Future: Lord, help me to stop replaying regrets. I rest in the truth that the same mercy that kept me yesterday is active right now for my tomorrow.
