BLESSINGS WITHOUT SORROW – THE DIVINE ALTERNATIVE

I. THE COUNTERFEIT VS. THE CRUCIBLE

As we gather on this beautiful Sunday, May 10th, 2026, the Holy Spirit is drawing a sharp line of demarcation between two types of prosperity. In a world increasingly obsessed with “get-rich-quick” schemes and the pursuit of wealth at any cost, the Church must be reminded of the source of true, enduring abundance.

There are riches, and then there are Blessings. Many people in our generation have been lured into the devil’s trap of sinful compromises to secure financial stability or social status. While they may eventually achieve the material wealth they sought, they soon discover that the devil’s “gifts” are never free. Every “blessing” from the pit of hell comes with a hidden tax—a truckload of sorrow, health crises, broken homes, or a restless soul. Our memory verse offers the divine alternative: God’s blessing makes rich, and it carries zero sorrow.

II. THE ARCHITECT OF DESTRUCTION

Our reading in John 10:10 exposes the devil’s business model. He is described as a “Thief” who has a three-fold agenda: To Steal, To Kill, and To Destroy. #### 1. The Pretense of Goodness

The devil is a master of the “sugar-coated poison.” He may pretend to offer you the “best” life—perhaps a lucrative deal that requires a small lie, or a relationship that requires you to compromise your faith. But he is a great deceiver. He is fundamentally incapable of giving anything “good” because goodness is not in his nature.

2. The Legal Grounds of Sin

When you yield to the temptation of sin to get ahead, you aren’t just making a mistake; you are signing a spiritual contract. You are giving the devil legal permission to enter your life. If you use his “currency” (sin) to buy your “blessing,” he maintains ownership of the transaction. This is why the riches of the wicked are often accompanied by “strange” sorrows that no amount of money can fix.

III. THE TESTIMONY: POWER OVER THE MARINE REALM

I recall a profound encounter from my days as a university lecturer. A female student approached me with a heart-wrenching dilemma. She had found a young man she loved, and she believed it was God’s will to marry him. However, her father had dropped a bombshell: he had dedicated her to a marine spirit.

The Father’s Curse: Her father told her that if she married, she would die. He even added that if she survived, her husband would die on the wedding day. For years, this young lady lived in the bondage of fear—scared to love and scared to be happy.

The Divine Solution: When she told me her story, I laughed—not at her pain, but at the audacity of the devil. I told her, “I know the Father of all spirits.” We prayed a simple prayer in the Name of Jesus, asserting the authority of Christ over every marine dedication.

Two years later, while I was at a church in Yaba, Lagos, this same lady walked up to me with a radiant smile. She wasn’t dead, and she wasn’t alone. She was carrying a healthy baby and pointing to her handsome, living husband. Because she ran to Jesus, she traded a life of “bondage and sorrow” for a “sorrow-free package” of divine blessing.

IV. COMPREHENSIVE Q&A: SUSTAINING SORROW-FREE RICHES

Q1: If God’s blessing has no sorrow, why do many righteous people still face trials?

Answer: We must distinguish between Sorrow and Trials. Trials are external pressures used by God to build your character (1 Peter 5:9). Sorrow, in the context of Proverbs 10:22, refers to the regret, guilt, and destructive side-effects that come with ill-gotten wealth. A believer can be “sorrowful yet always rejoicing,” but the devil’s riches leave you “wealthy yet always weeping.”

Q2: How can I tell if a ‘breakthrough’ is from God or a lure from the devil?

Answer: Check the “Light” of the Word (as our hymn suggests). If the breakthrough requires you to violate a scriptural principle (like honesty, purity, or the Sabbath), it is not a blessing from God. God will never contradict His Word to bless His child.

Q3: What if I already have ‘sorrowful riches’ from my past life?

Answer: You must bring them to the altar of Jesus. Repent, and where possible, make restitution (returning what was stolen or making amends). When you bring your “all” to the altar, the Blood of Jesus can cleanse the sorrow and sanctify your future.

V. THE 2026 PROPHETIC CHALLENGE: VIGILANCE IN PROSPERITY

The world in May 2026 is full of “shortcuts.” The Holy Spirit is calling you to:

1: Be Sober and Vigilant: Don’t be “drunk” with the desire for money. The devil is a roaring lion, looking for those whose greed has made them blind to his traps (1 Peter 5:8).

2: Resist Steadfastly: When the shortcut to wealth appears, resist it in the faith. Know that the “afflictions” of waiting for God’s timing are shared by your brethren globally.

3: Choose the Abundant Life: Jesus came that you might have life abundantly. This abundance includes peace of mind, health in your body, and joy in your family—things the devil can never provide.

VI. REFLECTION & ACTION POINT

THOUGHT TO PONDER:

Am I pursuing “Riches” or “The Blessing”? If my current path to success was laid bare before the Lord, would there be any “accursed thing” that might invite sorrow later?

ACTION POINT:

1: The Integrity Check: Look at your sources of income today. Is there anything shady? If so, take it to God in repentance.

2: Trust and Obey: Read the lyrics of today’s hymn. Decide to “trust and obey,” believing that God’s way is the only way to be truly happy and sorrow-free.

3: Intercession: Pray for those in your family who are being tempted by “blood money” or fraudulent activities. Ask God to reveal the “Thief” to them before it is too late.

PRAYER:

Father, I thank You because You are the Source of every good and perfect gift. I refuse the devil’s counterfeit “blessings.” I choose to wait on You, knowing that Your blessing alone makes rich without adding sorrow. Deliver me from the snare of greed and the temptation of “shortcuts.” Cleanse my life of any “accursed thing” that may invite the thief to steal, kill, or destroy. I receive the Abundant Life of Jesus today—full of peace, joy, and prosperity that honors You. In Jesus’ mighty Name. Amen.

PROPHETIC DECREE:

I decree today that you are delivered from every marine bondage and ancestral curse! Every “sorrow-tax” the devil has placed on your progress is cancelled by the Blood of Jesus! I decree that as you walk in the light of His Word, your path shall shine brighter and brighter. You shall not be devoured by the roaring lion. I command the doors of “Sorrow-Free Riches” to swing open for you this May! You shall have the life, and have it more abundantly! In Jesus’ mighty Name, it is settled!
