BIBLE READING:
35. As Jesus approached Jericho, a blind man was sitting by the roadside begging.
36.When he heard the crowd going by, he asked what was happening.
37. They told him, “Jesus of Nazareth is passing by.”
38.He called out, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!”
39. Those who led the way rebuked him and told him to be quiet, but he shouted all the more, “Son of David, have mercy on me!”
40. Jesus stopped and ordered the man to be brought to him. When he came near, Jesus asked him,
41. “What do you want me to do for you”“Lord, I want to see,” he replied.
42. Jesus said to him, “Receive your sight; your faith has healed you.”
43. Immediately he received his sight and followed Jesus, praising God. When all the people saw it, they also praised God.
KEY VERSE:
Jesus said to him, receive your sight; your faith has healed you.
MEDITATION:
You are in a crowded place, desperately trying to get someone’s attention. You call out, but your voice gets drowned out by the noise around you. It’s a helpless feeling, isn’t it? That’s exactly what Bartimaeus, the blind beggar, must have felt as he sat by the roadside in Jericho.
But Bartimaeus refused to let his cries be silenced. When he heard that Jesus was passing by, he began shouting, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!” (Luke 18:38). The people around him tried to quiet him, but Bartimaeus only shouted louder.
Jesus heard Bartimaeus’ persistent cries and stopped. He asked Bartimaeus, “What do you want me to do for you?” (Luke 18:41) Bartimaeus replied, “Lord, I want to see!” (Luke 18:41) Jesus said to him, “Receive your sight; your faith has healed you.” (Luke 18:42) Immediately, Bartimaeus could see.
In our own lives, we may face situations where our cries for help seem to go unheard. But like Bartimaeus, we must never give up. If we approach God with persistent faith, He will hear our prayers and respond according to His will. We must never give up on prayer, and we must pray without ceasing. (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18)
When you face challenges and difficulties, to whom and where do you direct your cry and supplication?
PRAYER:
Father Lord, help us to have the same unwavering faith as Bartimaeus. May our faith in you never waiver, and may we always be willing to follow you, praising you for the miracles you perform in our lives in Jesus’ name.
