HOLINESS AND DIVINE BLESSINGS

MESSAGE BY: Pastor E. A. Adeboye

MEMORISE: “Delight thyself also in the LORD: and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.”Psalm 37:4

I. DEMYSTIFYING HOLINESS: PROMPT AND WHOLEHEARTED OBEDIENCE

Welcome to Saturday, September 5, 2026. Religion often paints holiness as an unreachable, overly complicated set of rigid rules. However, in its purest form, holiness is simply doing whatever God says—wholeheartedly and promptly.
It is an immediate, unreserved posture of the heart:
  • When God says, “Sit down,” the holy response is, “Yes, Lord,” without delay.
  • When He says, “Stand,” the response is, “Yes, Lord.”
  • When He says, “Eat,” there is no hesitation before saying, “Yes, Lord.”
  • When He says, “Fast,” the spirit man instantly responds, “Yes, Lord,” and enters into the fast immediately.
When you obey God’s instructions without arguing, negotiating, or delaying, you are walking in holiness. Simply execute what He asks, and leave the outcome entirely in His hands!

II. THE INCOMPATIBILITY OF HOLINESS AND PERPETUAL POVERTY

It is an absolute spiritual aberration for a believer to walk in true holiness and die in poverty. This is why the primary focus of gospel preaching should always be holiness rather than a raw, fleshly pursuit of material wealth.
When you walk in holiness, God will periodically give you specific, divine instructions. Obeying those instructions positions you directly under the floodgates of His blessing. Conversely, anyone who argues with God or delays obedience will miss out on the pre-arranged rewards reserved for them.
This principle is why David boldly proclaimed in Psalm 37:25:
“I have been young, and now am old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread.”
When you maintain a righteous walk, God takes absolute responsibility for your sustenance!

III. THE Gennesaret LESSON: SURRENDERING YOUR RESOURCES

Our Bible reading in Luke 5:1–9 offers a vivid demonstration of how prompt obedience triggers supernatural abundance.
Jesus stood by the Lake of Gennesaret, surrounded by a crowd pressing in to hear the Word of God. Seeing two empty boats by the shore where fishermen were washing their nets after a fruitless night, Jesus stepped into Simon Peter’s boat.
Look at the progression of Peter’s obedience:
The First Request: Jesus asked Peter to push out a little distance from the land. Peter did not complain about his exhaustion, overnight failure, or dirty nets; he simply complied.
The Second Request: After teaching the crowd, Jesus instructed Peter: “Launch out into the deep, and let down your nets for a draught” (Luke 5:4).
Initial Hesitation Overcome: Peter voiced his human reality—“Master, we have toiled all the night, and have taken nothing”—but immediately surrendered his professional reasoning to divine authority: “Nevertheless at thy word I will let down the net” (Luke 5:5).

Because Peter surrendered his vessel and yielded to Christ’s word, his long night of frustration was erased in a single moment! He caught such a massive haul of fish that his nets began to break. The blessing was so immense that it overflowed to his partners, filling both boats until they began to sink.
You cannot live a life of holiness—expressed through wholehearted, prompt obedience to God—and remain stranded, frustrated, or impoverished. Obey Him in everything, and He will command blessings upon every area of your life!

IV. TWELVE POWERFUL PRAYER POINTS

Pray these prayer points with spiritual intensity, asking God for the grace of immediate obedience:
1: Thanksgiving for Divine Instructions: Heavenly Father, I thank You for the privilege of hearing Your voice and receiving Your Word to guide my daily walk.
2: Grace for Prompt Obedience: Lord, deliver me from every form of delay, hesitation, or procrastination whenever You give me an instruction!
3: Purging the Spirit of Argument: Father, destroy every carnal reasoning, intellectual pride, or doubt that causes me to question Your instructions.
4: Anointing for Wholehearted Surrender: Lord, give me a heart that responds “Yes, Lord” to Your directions, whether You call me to pray, fast, give, or move.
5: Overcoming Fruitless Toil: Father, by the power of Your Word, speak an end to every season of fruitless effort, frustration, and overnight labor in my life!
6: Releasing Resources for the Gospel: Lord, I dedicate my career, business, platform, and resources to the advancement of Your Kingdom; use them for Your glory!
7: The Overflow of Blessing: Father, let my obedience unlock net-breaking and boat-sinking blessings that will overflow to my family, neighbors, and community!
8: Enthroning Holiness: Lord, sanctify my heart, thoughts, and actions; make me a true vessel of holiness fit for the Master’s use.
9: Exposing Hidden Instructions: Father, open my spiritual ears to catch every specific direction You are giving me in this season for my next level of breakthrough.
10: Exterminating Poverty and Scarcity: Lord, according to Psalm 37:25, let scarcity and lack be permanently banished from my household as I walk uprightly before You.
11: Supernatural Partnership: Father, bring me into strategic kingdom partnerships that will handle the massive harvest You are sending my way.
12: Personal Requests for Complete Alignment: [Present your specific business decisions, career steps, or spiritual goals to God, asking for clear instructions and the grace to obey.]

V. BIBLE TEXT SUMMARY & FURTHER STUDY

Bible Text Summary: Luke 5:1–9

Jesus stands by the Lake of Gennesaret as a crowd presses in to hear God’s Word. Seeing two boats by the shore whose fishermen are washing their nets, Jesus enters Simon’s boat, asking him to put out a little from land, and teaches the people from the boat. When finished, Jesus instructs Simon to launch out into deep water and let down the nets for a catch. Simon answers that they have worked hard all night catching nothing, but agrees to do so at Jesus’ word. Upon letting down the nets, they enclose so many fish that their nets break, prompting them to signal their partners in the other boat for help. Both boats are filled so heavily with fish that they begin to sink. Astonished by the massive catch, Simon Peter falls at Jesus’ knees, declaring himself a sinful man.

VI. BIBLE READING PLAN

1-Year Bible Reading Plan

Ezekiel 36–38
  • Ezekiel 36: Prophecy to the mountains of Israel promising restoration. God rebukes the surrounding nations that mocked Israel’s desolation, declaring that the land will yield fruit, cities will be inhabited, and ruins rebuilt. God clarifies that He acts not for Israel’s sake, but for His holy Name’s sake, which was profaned among the heathen. He promises to sprinkle clean water on them, remove their heart of stone, give them a heart of flesh, put His Spirit within them, and cause them to walk in His statutes.
  • Ezekiel 37: The vision of the Valley of Dry Bones. Ezekiel is carried by the Spirit into a valley full of very dry bones. God commands him to prophesy to the bones, promising breath and life. As Ezekiel speaks, a noise and shaking occur; bones join together, covered by sinews, flesh, and skin, but without breath. God then commands him to prophesy to the wind, and breath enters them, forming an exceeding great army. God explains the bones represent the hopeless house of Israel, whom He will bring out of their graves back to their land. The chapter concludes with the sign of two sticks joined together, symbolizing the reunification of Judah and Israel under one King, David His servant, in an everlasting covenant of peace.
  • Ezekiel 38: Prophecy against Gog of the land of Magog, the chief prince of Meshech and Tubal. God declares He will put hooks in Gog’s jaws and bring him against Israel in the latter years—a vast coalition (including Persia, Ethiopia, Libya, Gomer, and Togarmah) invading a peaceful, undefended land. When Gog attacks, God’s fury will rise, triggering a massive earthquake, mountain collapses, mutual slaughter, pestilence, torrential rain, hailstones, fire, and brimstone, so that the nations will know He is the Lord.

VII. HYMN 30: WHEN WE WALK WITH THE LORD

When we walk with the Lord,
In the light of His word,
What a glory He sheds on our way!
While we do His good will
He abides with us still,
And with all who will trust and obey.
Chorus:
Trust and obey!
For there’s no other way
To be happy in Jesus,
But to trust and obey.
Not a shadow can rise,
Not a cloud in the skies,
But His smile quickly drives it away;
Not a doubt nor a fear,
Not a sigh nor a tear,
Can abide while we trust and obey.
(Chorus)
Not a burden we bear,
Not a sorrow we share

But our toil He doth richly repay;

Not a grief nor a loss,

Not a frown nor a cross,

But is blest if we trust and obey.
(Chorus)
But we never can prove the delights of His love,
Until all on the altar we lay,
For the favour He shows
And the joy He bestows
Are for them who will trust and obey.
(Chorus)
Then in fellowship sweet
We will sit at His feet,
Or we’ll walk by His side in the way,
What He says we will do,
Where He sends we will go,
Never fear, only trust and obey.
(Chorus)
