NEVER GIVE UP (PART 1)

MESSAGE BY: Pastor E. A. Adeboye

MEMORISE: “For surely there is an end; and thine expectation shall not be cut off.”Proverbs 23:18

I. THE UNYIELDING FAITH OF JOSEPH

Welcome to Friday, September 11, 2026. One of the most remarkable illustrations of perseverance, faith, and patience in Holy Scripture is found in the life of Joseph. His trajectory demonstrates that when God reveals a glorious future to you, no amount of human conspiracy, false accusation, or physical imprisonment can alter the final destination—provided you refuse to give up.
In Genesis 37:5–23, God gave Joseph grand prophetic dreams depicting his future leadership and greatness. However, sharing those dreams ignited severe envy among his brothers:
The Pit and Slavery: His brothers conspired to murder him, ultimately settling on selling him into foreign slavery. Yet, Joseph did not abandon his dream; he maintained his integrity and diligence until he became the chief overseer in Potiphar’s house.
The Seduction and False Accusation: When Potiphar’s wife tried to seduce him, Joseph refused, declaring in Genesis 39:9 that he could not sin against God. His uncompromising purity resulted in false accusations and immediate imprisonment.
The Dungeon Leadership: Even in prison, Joseph refused to sink into bitterness or despair. He served faithfully, earning the trust of the prison warden and overseeing his fellow inmates.

Then came the appointed time. Within a single twenty-four-hour window, God orchestrated events that moved Joseph directly from an Egyptian dungeon to the Prime Minister’s palace (Genesis 41:37–44)! Pharaoh placed his own signet ring on Joseph’s finger, arrayed him in fine linen, placed a gold chain around his neck, and made him ruler over all the land of Egypt.
If God can elevate a forgotten foreign prisoner to rule the greatest empire of his day in a single instant, He can elevate you to whatever height He has destined for you!

II. THE PERSISTENT FAITH THAT TOUCHES HEAVEN

God is moved by relentless, persistent faith that refuses to take “no” or “it’s too late” for an answer.
In 1981, when I newly assumed office as the General Overseer of The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), I visited one of our few local parishes in Lagos. A woman who was desperately believing God for the fruit of the womb intended to attend the program, but arrived after it had ended, assuming it was an evening service.
Finding an empty auditorium, she collapsed to the floor in tears, crying: “God, now I know You don’t want me to have a child!” She had anchored her faith on the belief that simply setting her eyes on the servant of God would break her yoke of barrenness.
When sympathetic onlookers comforted her and revealed where I would be ministering the following morning, her hope was instantly revived:
Early Morning Persistence: She arrived at the venue early the next day, waiting expectant in the crowd.
The Moment of Faith: As soon as I stepped up to the pulpit, she looked up, locked her eyes on me, and whispered in her heart: “God, thank You.”
The Instant Result: That very month, her womb was opened, and she conceived! Her faith touched the heart of God because she refused to let disappointment turn into permanent surrender.

III. YOUR EXPECTATION SHALL NOT BE CUT OFF

In Proverbs 23:18, the Spirit of God promises: “For surely there is an end; and thine expectation shall not be cut off.”
Never allow temporary setbacks, delayed promises, or opposition to make you abandon your God-given vision.
Maintain Your Integrity: Like Joseph, refuse to compromise your moral standards or abandon your prayer altar during times of trial.
Stay in Alignment: Keep following the clear leading of the Holy Spirit and aligning your words with God’s promises.
Trust the Divine Timeline: The God who turned Joseph’s prison sentence into a Prime Minister’s decree is working behind the scenes to bring your expectations into glorious reality!

IV. TWELVE POWERFUL PRAYER POINTS

Pray these prayer points with spiritual intensity, standing firm upon God’s promises for your life:
1: Thanksgiving for Divine Promises: Heavenly Father, I thank You for every vision, prophecy, and promise You have spoken over my life, career, and family!
2: Deliverance from Despair and Giving Up: Lord, banish every spirit of discouragement, depression, and surrender from my heart; strengthen my faith to hold on to the end!
3: Purity in the Midst of Temptation: Father, like Joseph, grant me the grace to reject sin and worldly compromises so that my covenant alignment with You remains unbroken!
4: Anointing for Excellence in Obscurity: Lord, grant me the diligence to serve faithfully and excel, whether I am in the pit, Potiphar’s house, or the prison!
5: Overturning False Accusations: Father, silence every lying tongue, false charge, and malicious plot orchestrated by the enemy to ruin my reputation or delay my destiny!
6: The Single-Day Promotion Anointing: Lord, perform a swift, sovereign move in my life; turn my years of waiting into overnight, palace-level elevation!
7: Unyielding Faith in Disappointment: Father, grant me the unrelenting faith of the woman who sought You early, refusing to accept defeat or barrenness!
8: Breaking Generational Barrenness: Lord, let every physical, financial, marital, and spiritual womb in my life be opened today by the power of the Holy Ghost!
9: Realization of Expectations: Father, fulfill Your Word in Proverbs 23:18 in my life; let my expectations never be cut off or frustrated by the enemy!
10: Dominion over Environmental Trials: Lord, grant me the wisdom and grace to thrive and lead, even in difficult environments and restrictive conditions!
11: Connecting with Destiny Helpers: Father, position me to meet those who will recognize Your wisdom in my life and champion my God-given dreams!
12: Personal Requests for Vision Fulfillment: [Present your specific God-given dreams, asking God for the perseverance, favor, and strength to see them fully realized.]

V. BIBLE TEXT SUMMARY & FURTHER STUDY

Bible Text Summary: Genesis 41:37–44

Following Joseph’s supernatural interpretation of Pharaoh’s troubling dreams concerning seven years of abundance followed by seven years of severe famine, Pharaoh and his officials recognize the unique presence of the Spirit of God in Joseph. Impressed by his wisdom and practical strategy, Pharaoh declares that no one in Egypt is as discreet and wise as Joseph. Pharaoh promotes him immediately to oversee his entire royal house and govern all Egypt, retaining supremacy only in the throne itself. Pharaoh places his signet ring on Joseph’s hand, arrays him in royal fine linen and gold chains, seats him in the second chariot of state with heralds commanding the nation to bow before him, and decrees that without Joseph’s approval, no person in all Egypt shall lift hand or foot.

VI. BIBLE READING PLAN

1-Year Bible Reading Plan

Daniel 4–5
Daniel 4: King Nebuchadnezzar writes a royal decree to all nations describing a dream of a magnificent, fruitful tree reaching heaven that provided food and shelter for all creation. In his dream, a holy watcher descends from heaven commanding the tree to be chopped down, its branches stripped, and its stump bound with iron and bronze among the grass for seven periods of time (“seven times”) until he learns that the Most High rules in human kingdoms. Daniel interprets the dream with grief, revealing that Nebuchadnezzar is the tree. He warns the king to break off his sins by righteousness and showing mercy to the poor. Twelve months later, while boasting on the roof of his palace about “great Babylon, that I have built,” a voice from heaven pronounces judgment. Nebuchadnezzar is driven from men, eats grass like oxen, and his hair grows like eagles’ feathers until seven times pass over him. Upon lifting his eyes to heaven, his sanity returns, he praises the King of heaven whose dominion is everlasting, and he is restored to his throne with greater majesty.
Daniel 5: King Belshazzar holds a great feast for a thousand of his lords, drinking wine from the golden and silver vessels looted from God’s temple in Jerusalem while praising gods of gold, silver, bronze, iron, wood, and stone. Suddenly, fingers of a human hand appear writing on the plaster of the palace wall: MENE, MENE, TEKEL, UPHARSIN. Terrified, Belshazzar summons his astrologers, but none can read or interpret the writing. The queen mother reminds him of Daniel, who is brought before the king. Daniel refuses Belshazzar’s gifts, rebukes him for not humbling his heart like his predecessor Nebuchadnezzar, and interprets the writing:
MENE: God has numbered your kingdom and finished it.
TEKEL: You are weighed in the balances and found wanting.
PERES (UPHARSIN): Your kingdom is divided and given to the Medes and Persians.
That very night, Belshazzar the Chaldean king is slain, and Darius the Mede receives the kingdom.

VII. HYMN 30: WHEN WE WALK WITH THE LORD

When we walk with the Lord
In the light of His Word,
What a glory He sheds on our way!
While we do His good will,
He abides with us still,
And with all who will trust and obey.
Chorus:
Trust and obey!
For there’s no other way
To be happy in Jesus,
But to trust and obey.
Not a shadow can rise,
Not a cloud in the skies,
But His smile quickly drives it away;
Not a doubt nor a fear,
Not a sigh nor a tear,
Can abide while we trust and obey.
(Chorus)
Not a burden we bear,
Not a sorrow we share,

But our toil He doth richly repay;

Not a grief nor a loss,

Not a frown nor a cross,

But is blest if we trust and obey.

(Chorus)

But we never can prove

The delights of His love

Until all on the altar we lay;

For the favor He shows,

And the joy He bestows,

Are for them who will trust and obey.
(Chorus)
Then in fellowship sweet
We will sit at His feet,
Or we’ll walk by His side in the way;
What He says we will do,
Where He sends we will go—
Never fear, only trust and obey.
(Chorus)
