ATTRACTING GOD’S HELP (PART 1) – THE CRY OF THE HUMBLE

I. THE NECESSITY OF DIVINE INTERVENTION

As we gather on this Saturday, April 25th, 2026, the Holy Spirit is directing our spiritual focus toward a fundamental truth of the Christian walk: Human effort has a limit, but Divine Help is limitless. We live in a world that prides itself on “self-made” success and human ingenuity. Yet, every believer eventually reaches a “Jordan River” moment—a situation where natural laws, financial resources, and intellectual capacity are insufficient.

It is very important for children of God to know the things they can do to attract God’s help. Divine help is not a product of luck; it is a response to specific spiritual triggers. The Bible is filled with several accounts of how ordinary people attracted extraordinary help. Over the next few days, we will explore these triggers, beginning with the most basic yet powerful one: The Humble Cry.

II. THE MIRACLE AT JORDAN: RECOVERING THE BORROWED AXE

In our Bible reading from 2 Kings 6, we see the sons of the prophets embarking on a construction project. Their current dwelling had become “too strait” (too small). This represents growth and vision. However, vision often attracts challenges.

1. The Lost Tool

As they were felling trees, an axe head fell into the River Jordan. For a worker in that era, this was a catastrophe. The man cried out, “Alas, master! for it was borrowed.” This cry was significant for two reasons:

Honesty: He admitted he was using something that wasn’t his.

Helplessness: He acknowledged that the iron was at the bottom of the murky river—beyond his reach.

2. The Supernatural Reversal

The man of God, Elisha, did something that defied the laws of physics. He cut a stick and threw it where the iron had sunk. Immediately, the “iron did swim.” Gravity was suspended because a man was humble enough to cry for help. God does not help the “self-sufficient”; He helps those who recognize their total dependence on Him.

III. THE ANATOMY OF THE CRY

What does it mean to “cry out” to God? It is not merely a vocal exercise; it is an overflow of the heart.

The Davidic Cry: In Psalm 3:4, David said, “I cried unto the LORD with my voice, and he heard me out of his holy hill.” David was a king, a warrior, and a giant-killer, yet he never outgrew his need to cry to God. He knew that his throne was sustained not by his sword, but by his Supporter.

The Bartimaeus Persistence: In Mark 10:46-52, we see Blind Bartimaeus. When he heard Jesus was passing by, he didn’t whisper; he screamed. Despite the “religious” crowd trying to shut him up, he cried even louder. Jesus stopped because he heard the frequency of faith in that cry.

The Paradox of Pride: Sometimes, when I see people praying nonchalantly—almost as if they are doing God a favor—I wonder if they really want help. If you approach the King of Kings with a “poker face” or a heart full of pride, you block the flow of help. 2 Chronicles 7:14 places “humbling themselves” before “praying.” Humility is the permit that allows God to intervene in your “wicked” or “difficult” ways.

IV. THE DYNAMICS OF FERVENT ENGAGEMENT

I remember when I first joined The Redeemed Christian Church of God. I was an academic, a lecturer with a PhD. During one service, someone on the altar shouted, “Praise the Lord!” The person sitting next to me shouted “Hallelujah!” so loudly and with such force that I almost jumped out of my skin. My “intellectual” mind was startled, but my spirit learned a lesson: Helpless people do not praise or pray with decorum.

Beloved, don’t let anything prevent you from being fervent in the things of God.

In Praise: Dance with all your strength. Let the world know who you are celebrating.

In Prayer: Let your focus be on Him alone. When you are in the presence of your Maker, the opinions of people sitting next to you should not matter.

God is still in the business of performing miracles. The God who made iron swim in the days of Elisha is the same God watching you in 2026. He is waiting for a cry that is real, humble, and fervent.

V. COMPREHENSIVE Q&A: ATTRACTING DIVINE ASSISTANCE

Q1: Why does God wait for us to cry out if He already knows our needs?

Answer: God respects your will. Crying out is an act of “invitation.” It is you declaring, “Lord, I have come to the end of my strength; take over.” It is the transition from Self-Will to Thy-Will.

Q2: Can I attract God’s help if my problem was caused by my own mistake?

Answer: Yes. The son of the prophet lost the axe head while working. It was a mistake, yet God helped. However, notice the condition in 2 Chronicles 7:14: we must “turn from our wicked ways.” If the mistake was sinful, repent and cry out; Mercy is the twin brother of Help.

Q3: How do I handle ‘silent’ seasons when it feels like God is tarrying?

Answer: Look at the Memorise in Psalm 70:5. David said, “make no tarrying.” This is a “bold” humble cry. In silent seasons, your cry should be: “Lord, I trust You, but I am poor and needy; please hasten Your help.” Your persistence proves your faith.

VI. THE 2026 PROPHETIC CHALLENGE: THE IRON MUST SWIM

In this year 2026, many are facing “sinking” situations.

• Perhaps your business capital has “sunk” into a bad economy.

• Perhaps your health has “sunk” into a difficult diagnosis.

• Perhaps your joy has “sunk” under the weight of family pressure.

The message today is clear: The iron can swim again. The lost axe head can be recovered. But you must be willing to cry out. Shun the “shame” of what people will say. If Bartimaeus had worried about his reputation, he would have died in his blindness.

VII. REFLECTION & ACTION POINT

THOUGHT TO PONDER:

If I were truly “poor and needy” before God, how would my prayer life change today? Is my “dignity” preventing my “delivery”?

ACTION POINT:

Today, find a “secret place”—a room, a garden, or a quiet corner.

1: Acknowledge Your Need: Tell God exactly where you are failing. Be as honest as the man with the borrowed axe.

2: Shun Pride: Kneel or prostrate. Physically express your humility.

3: Cry Fervently: Call on God for specific areas of your life. Don’t be “nonchalant.” Ask Him to “make haste” and come to your aid.

PRAYER POINT:

Father, I am poor and needy without You. You are my only help and my only deliverer. Please, Lord, make no tarrying! Arise for me today in [mention your specific area of need]. Let every ‘sunk’ area of my life begin to swim again by Your power. Forgive my pride and hear my humble cry from Your holy hill, in Jesus’ name. Amen.

PROPHETIC DECREE:

I decree today that the “Elisha Anointing” is visiting your situation! Every “iron” of your life that has sunk into the depths of debt, sickness, or delay is commanded to swim to the surface now! I decree that the mouth of the “Jordan” will vomit your glory! Because you have humbled yourself today, the God who hears the cry of the needy will make haste to deliver you. Your neighbors shall witness your miracle and know that there is a God in Israel, in Jesus’ mighty Name!
