ATTRACTING GOD’S HELP (PART III) – THE ALTAR OF TOTAL SURRENDER

I. THE FINAL KEY: HUMILITY AS A SPIRITUAL MAGNET

Over the last two days, we have explored how a Humble Cry and Voluntary Service act as powerful triggers for divine intervention. Today, we conclude this series by focusing on the most foundational requirement for sustaining divine assistance: Total Humility and Surrender.

In our current world of 2026, where “self-branding” and “self-promotion” are the norms, the concept of humbling oneself seems counter-intuitive. Yet, in the Kingdom of God, the way up is down. Our memory verse in James 4:10 provides a foolproof spiritual formula: your “lifting” is directly proportional to your “humbling.” God does not lift those who are already standing tall in their own estimation; He lifts those who have bowed low at His feet.

II. THE PSALMIST’S REVELATION: GOD’S LISTENING POST

In Psalm 10:17-18, we find a profound secret regarding how God prioritizes prayers. The Scripture says, “LORD, thou hast heard the desire of the humble: thou wilt prepare their heart, thou wilt cause thine ear to hear.” #### 1. The Prepared Heart

God does more than just answer the humble; He actually “prepares” their hearts. Humility creates a spiritual vacuum that God is obligated to fill. When you are humble, your heart becomes a fertile ground for God’s instructions.

2. The End of Oppression

Verse 18 reveals that the purpose of this help is to “judge the fatherless and the oppressed.” God arises for the humble specifically to silence the “man of the earth” (the oppressor). If you are facing a situation where you feel bullied by circumstances or people, the fastest way to get God to take over the case is to move into a state of Total Surrender.

III. THE NAAMAN SYNDROME: PRIDE AS A MIRACLE-BLOCKER

The story of Naaman in 2 Kings 5:11-12 serves as a stern warning for every believer. Naaman was a “great man” with his master, but he was a leper. He arrived at the Prophet’s house with horses, chariots, and a massive ego.

The Expectation of Status: Naaman felt that his social and financial status earned him a “special” type of miracle. He was angry that Elisha didn’t come out to perform a dramatic ceremony.

The Near-Miss: Because he was “proud,” he almost walked away from his healing. He preferred the “cleaner” rivers of Damascus to the muddy Jordan.

The Lesson: God does not heal “Generals” or “CEOs”; He heals people. If Naaman had not listened to the humble advice of his servants and dipped himself seven times in the Jordan, he would have died a decorated, wealthy leper. Never let your “achievements” in the world become a barrier to your “help” from Heaven.

IV. THE DAVIDIC POSTURE: “WHAT IS MAN?”

I have walked with God for several decades now, and if there is one thing I have learned with absolute certainty, it is that God hates pride. James 4:6 tells us that God actively resists the proud. Imagine having the Almighty God as your opponent because of your ego!

On the other hand, look at King David. Despite being a giant-killer and a king, his heart remained small in his own eyes. In Psalm 8:4, he asked, “What is man, that thou art mindful of him?” David saw himself as a mere work of creation before the Creator.

• He never argued with God.

• He never felt too big to repent.

• He never felt too “royal” to dance before the Ark.

As a result, God’s help followed him until his last breath. He died at a good old age, full of riches and honour (1 Chronicles 29:28). Help is guaranteed for the man who knows he is nothing without God.

V. COMPREHENSIVE Q&A: WALKING IN TOTAL SURRENDER

Q1: What does it practically mean to ‘present my body as a living sacrifice’?

Answer: It means giving God the “remote control” of your life. According to Romans 12:1, it is your “reasonable service.” A sacrifice on an altar doesn’t negotiate; it doesn’t have an opinion. It means saying, “Lord, my hands are Yours to work, my feet are Yours to go, and my tongue is Yours to speak.”

Q2: Can I be ‘successful’ and ‘humble’ at the same time?

Answer: Absolute success requires humility. True humility is not “thinking less of yourself,” it is “thinking of yourself less.” It is acknowledging that your wealth, your PhD, or your title are gifts from the Owner and Controller of your life. Disregard your social status when you enter the prayer closet.

Q3: How do I know if I have ‘pride’ in my heart?

Answer: Check your reaction to correction. If you find it hard to obey simple instructions (like Naaman) or if you feel “above” certain tasks in the house of God, pride is present. As our hymn says, the delights of His love are only for those who “all on the altar lay.”

VI. THE 2026 PROPHETIC CHALLENGE: TRUST AND OBEY

In this year 2026, the complexity of life might tempt you to rely on your own understanding. But the hymn reminds us: “Trust and obey, for there’s no other way.” * Not a shadow can rise, not a cloud in the skies, but His smile drives it away—if you are walking in the light of His Word.

• Your toil will be richly repaid if you lay your burdens at His feet.

If you want God to arise and help you beyond your wildest imagination, you must drop the “mask” of self-sufficiency. God is looking for the “fatherless” and the “oppressed”—those who know their only hope is in Him.

VII. REFLECTION & ACTION POINT

THOUGHT TO PONDER:

Is there any part of my life—my finances, my career, or my relationships—where I am still telling God, “I’ve got this”? That is the area where you are currently blocking His help.

ACTION POINT:

Acknowledge the Owner: Spend 10 minutes today consciously handing over the “keys” of your life to Jesus.

Repent of Ego: Ask God to forgive you for the times you acted like Naaman—demanding a miracle on your own terms.

Lay it on the Altar: Whatever “burden” you are carrying today, lay it on the altar. Stop trying to figure it out yourself. Trust and obey.

PRAYER POINT:

Father, I come before You today in total surrender. I acknowledge that You are the Owner and Controller of my life. Please forgive me for every trace of pride and self-sufficiency. Lord, I lay my achievements, my status, and my burdens on Your altar. Please arise for my help; judge my cause and deliver me from every form of oppression. Lift me up in Your mercy as I humble myself before You, in Jesus’ name. Amen.

PROPHETIC DECREE:

I decree today that as you lay your “all” on the altar, the fire of God’s help shall descend upon your life! Every “Naaman-like” leprosy—whether spiritual, physical, or financial—is washed away as you obey the Lord! I decree that because you have chosen to walk in humility, the “man of the earth” shall no longer oppress you. Your lifting begins this moment, and you shall finish this year full of riches, honour, and divine testimony, in the mighty Name of Jesus!
