OVERCOMING TEMPTATIONS PART 2

I. UNARMED ON THE BATTLEFIELD: THE DANGER OF BIBLE NEGLECT
Happy New Month to you all! Welcome to August 2026. As we step into this new month, God wants us to walk in continuous victory over every trap of the devil.
Yesterday, we discussed the absolute necessity of recognizing the Holy Spirit’s warning voice and yielding to the supernatural grace provided to escape temptation. Today, we advance to the second key strategy for total dominion: the mastery of the Word of God.
A Christian who does not study the Bible regularly will never know how to respond effectively when temptation strikes. Such a person will inevitably find themselves caught in a frustrating cycle of falling in and out of sin.
Why? Because in the realm of the spirit, a believer who neglects regular Scripture study is like a soldier marching onto a battlefield without a sword!
In Ephesians 6:16–17, Apostle Paul lists the armor of God. He highlights the helmet of salvation and the shield of faith, but when he introduces the weapon needed to strike down enemy attacks, he identifies it explicitly:
“…and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:” — Ephesians 6:17
The Word of God is unique among spiritual armor pieces because it serves as both a weapon of offense and a shield of defense. If you attempt to fight daily temptations using human intelligence, willpower, or self-control alone, you will be defeated every single time. You need the Sword of the Spirit!
II. THE MASTER’S BLUEPRINT: VICTORIOUS OVERCOMING THROUGH “IT IS WRITTEN”
Look at the perfect example set by our Lord Jesus Christ during His wilderness encounter with Satan in Luke 4:1–12.
When the devil came to tempt Jesus after forty days of fasting, Satan did not use physical weapons; he fired intellectual, emotional, and spiritual darts of enticement. He targeted Jesus’ hunger, His divine identity, and His earthly destiny.
Notice how Jesus overcame every single wave of temptation. He did not enter into an emotional debate with the devil. He did not try to negotiate or rely on His physical strength. He countered every satanic assault with a precise, authoritative quotation of Scripture!
Three times Satan attacked, and three times Jesus declared: “It is written!”
If the sinless Son of God relied entirely on the written Word to silence the adversary, what makes any modern Christian think they can overcome the tempter without knowing and speaking the Word of God?
III. THE HEART DEPOSIT: PSALM 119:11 AND SPIRITUAL SANCTIFICATION
In Psalm 119:9–11, the Psalmist asks a fundamental question that every believer—especially young men and women in today’s morally polluted world—must answer:
“Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? by taking heed thereto according to thy word… Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.” — Psalm 119:9, 11
Notice the specific location where the Word must be stored: in your heart.
It is not enough to leave your Bible on your nightstand, carry it on your smartphone app, or listen to it passively during Sunday service. The Word of God must be read, meditated upon, and stored deep within the soil of your spirit!
When your heart is saturated with God’s Word, a divine transformation takes place:
1: Desire Overhaul: Living according to Scripture purifies your thoughts and sanctifies your desires (John 17:17).
2: Enticement Loss: As you immerse yourself in the Word, the worldly things that once enticed you—forbidden pleasures, dishonest gain, ungodly entertainment—lose their appeal!
3: Instant Counter-Attack: When the devil arrives with a custom trap, the Holy Spirit instantly brings the relevant Scripture to your remembrance, enabling you to declare, “It is written!” and forcing the tempter to flee.
IV. EXPOSING THE TRAPS: THE WISDOM OF PROVERBS 1:17
Scripture provides a profound principle regarding physical and spiritual awareness in Proverbs 1:17:
“Surely in vain the net is spread in the sight of any bird.” — Proverbs 1:17
A bird will not willingly step into a net if it clearly sees the hunter laying the trap to capture and kill it. Snares only work when they are hidden from the victim’s view!
This is precisely what God’s Word does for your spiritual senses. The Bible acts as a powerful pair of spiritual night-vision goggles.
When you study the Scriptures continuously, you become hyper-sensitive to the enemy’s hidden tactics. You see the hook behind the bait! When a flattering voice, a dishonest financial scheme, or a seductive opportunity presents itself, the Word of God exposes the underlying snare of hell before you take a single step forward.
Immerse yourself in God’s Word concerning your health, marriage, finances, career, and purity. Know what is written so that when deception arrives, you can shut it down instantly!

God’s word is your defence and victory kit over temptations.
VI. BIBLE TEXT SUMMARY: PSALM 119:9-17
The Psalmist outlines the practical path to moral purity and spiritual alignment with God. He declares that a young person cleanses their path by living in strict accordance with God’s Word. Seeking God with a whole heart and hiding His commandments in the inner consciousness prevents one from sinning against Him. The Psalmist praises God, asks for direct instruction in His statutes, and resolves to declare God’s judgments openly. He expresses deep delight in the way of God’s testimonies—valuing divine truth far above earthly wealth—and commits to continuous meditation, reverent respect, and active obedience to God’s precepts.
VII. BIBLE IN ONE YEAR SUMMARY: ISAIAH 60–63
Isaiah 60: A glorious prophetic proclamation of Zion’s end-time restoration and radiance: “Arise, shine; for thy light is come, and the glory of the LORD is risen upon thee.” Though darkness covers the earth, the Lord’s light shines upon His people, drawing Gentiles, kings, and wealth from across the globe to Zion. The chapter promises that violence will no longer be heard in her land, naming her walls Salvation and her gates Praise. God Himself will be her everlasting light, and her days of mourning will end.
Isaiah 61: The landmark messianic passage quoted by Jesus in the synagogue at Nazareth: “The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek…” The anointed Messiah is sent to bind up the brokenhearted, proclaim liberty to captives, comfort mourners, and give them beauty for ashes and the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness. God promises to build ancient ruins, make His people priests of the Lord, and display His righteousness like a garden springing forth.
Isaiah 62: God asserts His unyielding commitment to Jerusalem, declaring He will not hold His peace until her righteousness shines as brightness. Zion will receive a new name given by the Lord and be held as a royal diadem in His hand. No longer called “Forsaken” or “Desolate,” she will be named Hephzibah (My delight is in her) and Beulah (Married). Watchmen are posted on the walls to pray without ceasing until God establishes Jerusalem as a praise in the earth.
Isaiah 63: A dramatic vision of the Lord returning from Edom in crimson garments, treading the winepress of divine vengeance alone in His righteous anger against evil. The prophet transitions into a heartfelt prayer of remembrance, recalling God’s past mercies, lovingkindness, and how He led Israel by the hand of Moses. The chapter ends with an urgent plea for God to look down from heaven and restore His suffering people.

IX. PROPHETIC DECREE
I decree and declare that on this first day of August 2026, an unquenchable hunger and passion for the Word of God is ignited in your spirit!
You will no longer walk unarmed on the battlefields of life!
As you study and meditate on Scripture, your mind is renewed, your spiritual vision is sharpened, and every hidden snare of the devil laid against your life, career, marriage, and finances is totally exposed and destroyed!
Every desire for sin and ungodliness is completely eradicated from your heart by the sanctifying power of the Word!
When temptation comes, the Spirit of God will bring forth the precise “It is written” in your heart to grant you immediate victory!
Throughout this new month of August, you walk in continuous dominion, unbroken purity, and radiant glory, in the mighty and matchless Name of Jesus Christ! Amen! Hallelujah!
