OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL
CHRIST IN YOU
MESSAGE BY: Pastor E. A. Adeboye
MEMORISE: “To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory:” — Colossians 1:27
I. THE KIRIKIRI REVELATION: JOY BEHIND MAXIMUM SECURITY BARS
The first time I ever visited the Kirikiri Maximum Security Prison in Lagos was in the year 1975. I went there in the company of an elderly pastor to minister to the inmates. As we walked through the grim, heavily fortified corridors of that facility—a place defined by high walls, barbed wire, and the heavy atmosphere of human despair—we witnessed a sight that completely defied the environment. We saw a young man playing the piano and dancing with a radical, infectious joy that seemed utterly out of place.
Watching his unhindered celebration, I naturally assumed his release papers had just been signed or his sentence had been overturned. I leaned over to the elderly pastor and asked if the young man was about to be set free. The pastor looked at me, shook his head soberly, and replied that the young man had absolutely no earthly hope of being released—he was serving a mandatory life sentence.
Stunned by this revelation, I asked, “If he is stuck here for life, why is he dancing and rejoicing like this despite his terrible circumstances?” The elderly pastor smiled and gave me an answer I will never forget: “He is joyful because, right here in the darkness of this prison, he met Jesus Christ.” The physical walls of the prison had not changed, but his spiritual identity had. He had discovered that true liberty is not geographical; it is spiritual.
II. THE ANATOMY OF THE MYSTERY: RECONSTRUCTING YOUR HOPE
Beloved, if you are currently navigating a toxic, painful, or seemingly dead-end situation, I want you to know that your reasons for joy are not anchored to your external conditions. As long as you have Jesus Christ resident within your spirit, you possess an unshakeable, eternal asset. Our memory verse today declares a profound spiritual truth: “Christ in you, the hope of glory.”
In the vocabulary of the Kingdom, the word “hope” is not a fragile, uncertain wish; it is a structural guarantee. It is a legal certainty. When Christ inhabits a human being, no matter what structural damage, relational betrayal, or financial setback that individual experiences, their future is automatically locked into a frequency of ultimate glory. Sickness may attack the body today, or scarcity may threaten the bank account, but because Christ resides inside you, the story cannot end in shame. The internal presence of the King of Kings dictates that the final chapter of your life must mirror His resurrection triumph.
Generations of believers have preserved this truth through timeless songs. One songwriter boldly declared, “I am glad I belong to Jesus.” Another powerful hymn reminds us, “Because He lives, I can face tomorrow; because I know He holds the future.” These are not mere emotional melodies; they are heavy confessions of faith that you must deploy as weapons when the enemy attempts to knock you down.
Proverbs 24:16 establishes the baseline rules of our warfare: “For a just man falleth seven times, and riseth up again.” Notice the text does not say the righteous might rise; it says they will rise. The inner life of Christ functions like a spiritual gyroscope—no matter how hard you are hit by negative situations, you are designed to bounce back to an upright position.
III. THE DIVINE MISCALCULATION: TURNING TRAPS INTO STAGING GROUNDS
The kingdom of darkness suffers from a chronic inability to read the master plan of God. When the devil orchestrated the betrayal, trials, scourging, and public crucifixion of Jesus, the demonic realm threw a victory party. They assumed they had permanently extinguished the Light of the world.
However, 1 Corinthians 2:8 exposes their colossal strategic blunder: “Which none of the princes of this world knew: for had they known it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.” The enemy did not realize that by breaking the physical body of Jesus, they were inadvertently releasing His resurrection power to inhabit millions of human spirits across the globe. His death was the very trap that sealed their utter destruction.
We see this identical spiritual pattern playing out in today’s Bible reading. The devil manipulated the marketplace rulers and magistrates in Philippi to arrest, strip, brutally beat, and throw Paul and Silas into the deepest dungeon of the inner prison, securing their feet firmly in stocks. Satan thought he had successfully shut down the global expansion of the gospel. He had no idea that he had just delivered the dynamic duo directly to their next divine assignment.
God needed an operational presence inside that prison to rescue the jailer and his entire household from eternal damnation. When Paul and Silas chose to pray and sing praises at midnight, they activated the Christ within them. The result was a territorial earthquake that shattered the foundations of the prison, opened every locked door, and dissolved every chain. The very trap designed to break them became the platform that announced God’s saving power to the Roman authorities.
IV. REJOICE: YOUR CURRENT VALLEY IS A PLATFORM FOR ANNOUNCEMENT
Child of God, are you currently standing in the middle of a tough, volatile, or uncertain season? Are you facing pressures in your career, an unexpected crisis in your health, or severe tension within your home? I command you today to shift your posture and begin to rejoice! Do not look at the height of the waves; look at the caliber of the Captain sleeping in your boat.
Do not allow depression, anxiety, or discouragement to silence your praise. Rest completely assured that whatever affliction or trial you are passing through right now is nothing more than a blank canvas for the Almighty to display His raw power. As long as you remain genuinely rooted in Christ, your survival is guaranteed. Your present problem is simply the platform God will use to introduce His glory to your world. May Christ indeed reveal His unmatched glory in your life today, in Jesus’ mighty name.
V. KEY POINT
As long as you have Christ in you, you have every reason to rejoice. Your external circumstances do not dictate your final destination.
VI. BIBLE TEXT SUMMARY: ACTS 16:19-34
Following the deliverance of a slave girl possessed by a spirit of divination, her masters lose their source of income and spark a public riot against Paul and Silas. The local magistrates order the apostles to be stripped, severely beaten with rods, and cast into the innermost dungeon with their feet fastened in wooden stocks.
Instead of complaining, Paul and Silas spend their midnight hour praying and singing praises to God while the other prisoners listen. Suddenly, a violent supernatural earthquake shakes the foundations of the prison, flinging open all the doors and unfastening everyone’s chains. Terrified and assuming the prisoners have escaped, the jailer draws his sword to take his own life, but Paul stops him, assuring him that everyone is present.
Overwhelmed, the jailer asks how to be saved. Paul and Silas preach Christ to him and his household. That same hour, the jailer washes their wounds, and his entire family is immediately baptized. He then brings the apostles into his home, feeds them, and the entire household celebrates their newfound faith in God.
VII. BIBLE IN ONE YEAR SUMMARY: ECCLESIASTES 1-4
Ecclesiastes 1: King Solomon reflects on the repetitive, endless cycles of nature and human effort, concluding that human labor “under the sun” yields no permanent satisfaction. He asserts that earthly wisdom alone increases grief and that apart from God, human striving is completely empty.
Ecclesiastes 2: Solomon tests his heart with every earthly pleasure imaginable—including wine, grand architecture, massive gardens, immense wealth, and entertainment. He discovers that while wisdom surpasses foolishness, death eventually claims both the wise man and the fool. He concludes that true enjoyment of labor is a direct gift from God.
Ecclesiastes 3: This section outlines God’s sovereign timeline for human existence, noting that there is a precise season and time for every purpose under heaven (birth, death, weeping, laughing, war, and peace). Solomon emphasizes that God makes everything beautiful in His perfect timing and that His divine work endures forever.
Ecclesiastes 4: Looking at the systemic oppression and loneliness found in the world, Solomon highlights the absolute vanity of isolated success driven by envy. He emphasizes the immense value of covenant community and unity, declaring that “two are better than one” and that a threefold cord is not easily broken.
VIII. HYMN 10: IN CHRIST ALONE
1. In Christ alone my hope is found
He is my light, my strength, my song
This cornerstone, this solid ground
Firm through the fiercest drought and storm
What heights of love, what depths of peace
When fears are stilled, when strivings cease
My comforter, my all in all
Here, in the love of Christ, I stand
2. In Christ alone, who took on flesh
Fullness of God in helpless babe
This gift of love and righteousness
Scorned by the ones he came to save
‘Til on that cross, as Jesus died
The wrath of God was satisfied
For every sin, on him, was laid
Here, in the death of Christ, I live.
3. There in the ground, his body lay
Light of the world, by darkness, slain
Then bursting forth in glorious day
Up from the grave, he rose again
And as he stands in victory
Sin’s curse has lost its grip on me
For I am his and he is mine
Bought with the precious blood of Christ.
4. No guilt in life, no fear in death
This is the power of Christ in me
From life’s first cry to final breath
Jesus commands my destiny
No power of hell, no scheme of man
Can ever pluck me from His Hand
Till He returns or calls me home
Here, in the power of Christ, I stand.

I decree and declare that on this Friday, July 10, 2026, the indwelling life of Jesus Christ within you violently dismantles every structural captivity trying to encage your destiny! I command every financial prison, career stagnation, and physical infirmity calculated by the adversary to cause you shame to catch the fire of the Holy Ghost right now! I decree that your days of mourning, weeping, and feeling defeated are officially over! Every trap set by the enemy to destroy your reputation or limit your advancement is being turned around by God to become your stepping stone to territorial global prominence. Your health is fully vitalized, your mind is filled with unearthly peace, and your future is highly secure under the sovereign lordship of Jesus Christ. You shall step out of obscurity and permanently walk in uncompromised victory, in the mighty, matchless, and majestic Name of Jesus Christ! Amen! Hallelujah!
