The Assurance of Divine Communication and the Test of Scripture

MESSAGE: YOU CAN HEAR FROM GOD

The most profound privilege of the Christian life is the ability to communicate directly with the Creator of the universe. Yet, amidst the clamor and noise of the modern world, this divine connection often feels elusive. This spiritual deafness is the root cause of much of the world’s disorder. I can boldly tell you that the world is in chaos today because not many people are hearing from God.

The Bible asserts that when God speaks, it brings illumination and dispels darkness, reminding us: “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path” (Psalm 119:105). However, darkness is increasing daily because many people are not listening to and obeying God’s voice and word.

The good news, emphasized in our Bible reading from Hebrews 1:1-2, is that God has established a permanent channel of communication. While He spoke in diverse ways in the past, “Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son.” Since Jesus, the Word made flesh, completed His work, communication with the Father is not only possible but guaranteed. Our challenge is not whether God speaks, but whether we are listening, and more critically, whether we are accurately testing the voices we hear.

1. The Channels of Divine Communication

God, in His infinite creativity, uses various media to speak to His children. His methods are designed to penetrate our limited understanding and reach us where we are. God speaks to His children through:

His Word (The Bible): This is the primary and most reliable medium. The Scripture is the fixed, unchangeable standard against which all other forms of communication must be measured. It is the lamp and the light, providing sure guidance.

Visions and Dreams: These are powerful, often symbolic forms of communication God uses to reveal future events, warnings, or instructions, just as He did with Joseph, Daniel, and Paul.

Prophets and Leaders: God uses anointed individuals to bring confirmation, direction, and timely warnings to His people and to the Church.

The Still, Small Voice (The Holy Spirit): The quiet, undeniable conviction, intuition, or thought that the Holy Spirit impresses upon our hearts, guiding our steps and comforting our souls.

Circumstances and Nature: The patterns and events of life, when viewed through a spiritual lens, often convey God’s lessons, judgment, or love.

2. The Test of All Prophecy: Consistency with Scripture

No matter the medium He chooses to use, He will never go against His word in the Bible. This is the non-negotiable principle of divine communication. God is not schizophrenic; He cannot contradict Himself. What He has written in the eternal pages of the Bible is the ultimate blueprint of His character and will.

The Example of Falsehood

For example, it is clearly written in the Bible, “Be ye holy” (1 Peter 1:16). This is a foundational instruction from God.

If a prophet or a leader asks you to sleep with him or her to safeguard your destiny against evil, you should instantly know that such a prophet or leader was not sent by God. This “word” directly contradicts the instruction for holiness. The deception may be packaged with urgency or promises of protection, but if it requires sin, it is demonic, not divine.

My dear child, God can never contradict His instructions through any spoken word; rather, He will confirm them. All true prophetic words, visions, or promptings will be perfectly aligned with the truth, holiness, and love revealed in Scripture.

The Demand for Confirmation

Therefore, the next time you hear a word from anyone who claims to be sent to you from God, do not accept it blindly. Your responsibility is twofold:

Ask God for Confirmation: Humbly ask God to give you an independent confirmation of the word.
Verify Through the Scriptures: Immediately and diligently test the word against the written Word of God. Does it promote holiness or sin? Does it bring light or confusion? Does it lift up Jesus or the speaker?

The Bereans, praised in the book of Acts, were held up as an example because they “searched the Scriptures daily to find out whether these things were so.” This must be the constant posture of the mature believer.

3. Activating Your Ability to Hear God

Hearing God is not a privilege reserved for the elite; it is the birthright of every born-again child of God. If we are struggling to hear, the problem lies with our spiritual receivership, not with God’s desire to speak.

Cultivate Holiness: Sin creates static that jams the frequency of the Holy Spirit. A life dedicated to holiness and obedience clarifies your spiritual hearing. The pure in heart shall see (and hear) God.
Prioritize the Word: The more you immerse yourself in the written Word, the more familiar you become with God’s “voice” and “accent.” Your spirit will instantly recognize a counterfeit when you are saturated with the original.
Silence the Noise: Intentional quiet time is essential. The noise of media, worry, and busy schedules can easily drown out the still, small voice of the Spirit. Create space for silence and reflection, allowing the voice of the Shepherd to rise above the chaos.

Conclusion

We are living in a time when illumination is desperately needed, and that illumination comes only from the divine spoken Word. You can hear from God. Take responsibility for your spiritual ears today. Test every voice, cling to the Scripture, and cultivate a life of holiness.

As you do, the darkness will be dispelled in your life, your home, and your sphere of influence, because the lamp of His Word will be a light unto your path.
