A Deeper Look into the Character, Power, and Nature of the Almighty

Introduction

In a world filled with countless gods and idols, the Christian faith centers on one Supreme Being: God the Father. He is the ultimate reality, the eternal, uncreated, and all-powerful Creator. He exists outside of time, with no beginning and no end. He is absolutely holy, a rock and fortress for those who trust in Him. The Bible calls us to a life of worship, not as a religious duty, but as a natural response to His Person, His Character, and His Works. This is the heart of what it means to be a follower of Christ.

As Genesis 12:8 tells us, Abraham, the father of faith, “built an altar to the Lord and called on the name of the Lord.” This simple act of worship set the pattern for all who would follow. It was a declaration of allegiance to a God who is worthy of all praise.

A. Who is God? The Uncreated Creator

Our journey to true worship begins with understanding who God is. He is not a created being; He is the Creator. Every aspect of the universe, from the smallest atom to the grandest galaxy, came into existence through His will and power.

God is the Creator of Heaven and Earth (Genesis 1:1-25; 2:1): The very first verse of the Bible declares, “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” This simple statement establishes God as the sovereign cause of all things. He spoke, and creation came into being. This creative power is a foundational reason for our worship.

God is the Creator of Man (Genesis 1:26-27): Unlike the rest of creation, humanity was made in God’s image. This special act of creation sets us apart and gives us a unique relationship with Him. We were not an afterthought but a deliberate act of love and purpose.

God is the Owner and Giver of Life and Breath (Genesis 2:7): God breathed the breath of life into man, making him a living soul. This act shows us that life itself is a gift from God. He is the Source of all that exists, and without Him, there is no life.

God is Self-Existent and Eternal: He was not created by anyone. Psalm 90:2 says, “Before the mountains were born or you brought forth the whole world, from everlasting to everlasting you are God.” He is the First and the Last, as Isaiah 44:6 affirms. He is the uncreated One, a reality that defies our human comprehension and demands our reverence.

B. Worship God for His Character

Worship is not just about what God does; it’s about who He is. His character is the very essence of perfection, and it is in knowing His character that our worship becomes deep and meaningful.

God is Love (John 3:16; 1 John 4:7-8): This is perhaps the most profound aspect of God’s character. He is not just loving; He is the very definition of love. John 3:16 gives us the ultimate proof: “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” His love is a powerful, sacrificial force that seeks the ultimate good of His creation.

God is Holy (Isaiah 6:3; 1 Samuel 2:2): God is absolutely separate from sin and evil. His holiness is pure and without blemish. The prophet Isaiah, in a vision, heard the seraphim in heaven calling out, “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts.” His holiness inspires awe and reverence. The memory verse, 1 Samuel 2:2, echoes this truth: “No one is holy like the Lord, for there is none besides you, nor is there any rock like our God.”

God is Merciful and Forgiving (Psalm 103:9-12; Deuteronomy 4:31): God is merciful and compassionate, slow to anger and abounding in love. He does not treat us as our sins deserve but extends forgiveness to those who repent. As Psalm 103:12 says, “as far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us.”

God is Faithful (Lamentations 3:22-23; 1 Corinthians 10:13): God keeps His promises. His faithfulness is a source of security and hope. Even when we are faithless, He remains faithful. This unchanging reliability is a cornerstone of our trust in Him.

C. Worship God for His Power

God’s character is demonstrated through His boundless power. He is not a passive deity; He is active, engaged, and in complete control of all things.

God is Omniscient (All-Knowing) (Psalm 147:5): God knows everything—past, present, and future. His understanding is beyond measure. This means He knows our struggles and our needs even before we ask.

God is Immutable (Unchanging) (Malachi 3:6; Hebrews 13:8): God’s nature and character do not change. His promises are sure because He is the same yesterday, today, and forever. This truth gives us a firm foundation in an ever-changing world.

God is Omnipresent (Present Everywhere) (Psalm 139:7-12): There is nowhere we can go to escape God’s presence. He is with us in our highest moments of joy and our deepest valleys of sorrow. This provides a sense of security and a constant awareness of His companionship.

God is Sovereign (Rules Over All) (2 Chronicles 20:6; Exodus 15:11): God is in ultimate control. He is the King of all kings and the Lord of all lords. His power is a source of comfort, knowing that He is working all things together for our good.

God is Omnipotent (All-Powerful) (Luke 1:37): There is nothing impossible with God. His power is limitless. When we are faced with challenges that seem insurmountable, we can remember that the God we serve can do anything.

D. Our Attitude to God the Father

Given who God is, our response must be one of heartfelt worship and obedience.

Love God: Our worship should be fueled by a deep and genuine love for Him. As Jesus taught, the greatest commandment is to love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, and mind (Matthew 22:37).

Obey God’s Word: True love is demonstrated through obedience. Jesus said, “If you love me, keep my commandments” (John 14:15).

Serve and Worship Him: We express our love and obedience through service and worship. Worship is not just singing songs; it is a lifestyle of honoring God in all we do.

E. What God Knows About You

God’s omnipotence and omniscience mean He knows you completely. This knowledge is not to condemn you but to love you and guide you.

He knows you thoroughly (Psalm 139:1-4): He knows our thoughts, our words before we speak them, and our paths.
He knows your struggles and helps you (2 Peter 2:9; 1 Corinthians 10:13): He is not a distant God but one who understands our trials and provides a way of escape.
He knows His plan for your life (Jeremiah 29:11): He has a good and perfect plan for each of His children.

Conclusion

God’s love for you is the greatest gift of all. It is His divine character that moved Him to send His perfect Son, Jesus, to redeem you from your sins (John 3:16). His power is not just for grand displays but for intimate, personal care for you and me. Therefore, we must worship Him at all times, with every part of our being.

Challenge

What is your relationship with God today? Do you know Him as God the Father, who is worthy of your worship? If you do, your life should be a continuous act of worship. Let this be your confession: “I will worship God at all times; His praise shall continually be in my mouth.”

Invitation

God is your Creator, and He loves you. He invites you into a relationship with Him today. Accept His greatest gift of love by receiving Jesus as your Savior now (John 1:12).
