OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL: MARCH 2026 DEEP-DIVE

WORD OF POWER – PART I

MESSAGE BY: PASTOR E.A. ADEBOYE

BIBLE READING: MARK 5:2–15 (KJV)

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: 1 SAMUEL 28–31

HYMN: 3 – ANCIENT WORDS

MEMORISE: “When the even was come, they brought unto him many that were possessed with devils: and he cast out the spirits with his word, and healed all that were sick.” — (MATTHEW 8:16)

I. THE SURGICAL PRECISION OF THE WORD

As we close the chapter on March 2026, we arrive at a foundational truth that every believer must master: The Word of Power. In Hebrews 4:12, the Scripture describes the Word of God not as a static text, but as something “quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword.” The Greek word for “quick” here is zaō, meaning “living” or “alive.” This means that when you speak the Word of God, you are not just reciting literature; you are releasing a living entity into the atmosphere. It is a surgical instrument that pierces even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit.

II. THE GADARENE ENCOUNTER: COMMANDING THE LEGION

Our Bible reading in Mark 5:2–15 presents one of the most extreme cases of demonic possession in the New Testament. The man of Gadara was a “hopeless case” by human standards:

  • His Habitat: He lived among the dead (the tombs).

  • His Strength: He could pluck chains asunder; no man could bind or tame him.

  • His Condition: He was in constant agony, crying out and cutting himself.

Yet, when this “untameable” man saw Jesus from afar, the demons within him were forced to recognize a superior Authority. Notice that Jesus did not engage in a long, drawn-out ritual. He spoke a Word of Power: “Come out of the man, thou unclean spirit.” Despite there being a “Legion” (which could mean up to 6,000 demons), they had to negotiate for a place to go. They couldn’t stay where the Word commanded them to leave. The result was a man sitting, clothed, and in his right mind. One word from Jesus did what a thousand iron chains could not do.

III. THE LEGALITY OF THE COMMAND: DISCIPLES VS. IMPOSTERS

A “Word of Power” is only effective when it is backed by a legitimate relationship with the Source.

1. The Sons of Sceva (Acts 19:13–17)

In a sobering warning to all believers, the seven sons of Sceva tried to use the “Name” without the “Nature.” They tried to cast out a demon by saying, “We adjure you by Jesus whom Paul preacheth.” The demon’s response was chilling: “Jesus I know, and Paul I know; but who are ye?” Demons do not obey “formulas”; they obey Authority. If you are a true disciple of Jesus Christ, you carry a spiritual “ID card” that the kingdom of darkness recognizes. They know when the Light of Christ is actually present in a person.

2. The Paul Precedent (Acts 16:16–18)

When a girl with a spirit of divination bothered Paul, he didn’t argue or try to “tame” her. He spoke to the spirit: “I command thee in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her.” The Bible says the spirit came out that same hour.

IV. TESTIMONY: THE NAME THAT BENDS THE KNEE

I recall a young man who attended a meeting and came home heavily oppressed by demons. It was a pathetic sight; he was completely paralyzed by these dark forces, unable to sit or stand, forced to lie flat on the floor.

When he was brought before me, I didn’t see a “medical” problem; I saw a spiritual rebellion. I commanded him, “I command you to kneel because I want to pray for you.” He looked at me with a terrifying, fiery gaze and hissed, “I can’t go on my knees.” I didn’t flinch. I repeated the command.

He asked, “In whose name?” I replied, “In the name of Jesus.” The moment that Name was mentioned, the “impossible” happened. He knelt. When I finished praying, I told him to stand up. Again he asked, “In whose name?” I replied, “In the name of Jesus.” He stood up instantly. I told him he was free, and that was the end of his demonic bondage.

V. COMPREHENSIVE Q&A: EXERCISING YOUR SPIRITUAL VOICE

Q1: Why do some problems seem to ignore my ‘command’ even when I use the Name of Jesus?

Answer: There are two main factors: Faith and Relationship. Jesus told His disciples in Matthew 17:21 that some spirits require “prayer and fasting” to sharpen the believer’s spiritual sensitivity and authority. Additionally, check your standing with God. Are you a “Sceva” or a “Paul”? The Word of Power works through a clean, surrendered vessel.

Q2: Should I shout when I’m speaking the Word of Power?

Answer: Authority is not found in the volume of your voice, but in the weight of your spirit. Jesus “cast out spirits with his word”—often a quiet but firm command. However, if shouting helps your faith, do so, but remember the power is in the Name, not the decibels.

Q3: Can I use the Word of Power for non-demonic issues, like sickness or debt?

Answer: Yes! Jesus spoke to the wind and the waves. He spoke to a fig tree. He spoke to a fever. Any “mountain” in your life has ears to hear the Word of the Lord.

VI. THE FINAL WORD FOR MARCH

As you step out this Tuesday, be conscious that you are not a victim of circumstances. You are a “Minister of Light” armed with “Ancient Words” that are ever true.

When you encounter a challenge today—be it a health report, a financial hurdle, or a spiritual attack—do not just cry about it. Speak to it. Use the Word of God as a sword. Tell that mountain to move “In the Name of Jesus.”

VII. REFLECTION & PROPHETIC PRAYER

THOUGHT TO PONDER:

If my words were “backed by Heaven” today, what is the first thing I would command to change in my environment?

PROPHETIC DECREE FOR MARCH 31ST:

I decree that your mouth is becoming a “Weapon of War”! As you close this month, every “Legion” of problems assigned to your family is evicted. Every “chain” that has bound your progress is plucked asunder. I decree that when you speak in the Name of Jesus, the earth shall hear and the heavens shall respond. You shall end this month sitting, clothed, and in your right mind, in Jesus’ Name!

PRAYER POINTS:

For Spiritual Identity: Father, let there be no doubt in the spirit realm about who I am. Let every demon recognize the Light of Christ in me.

For Boldness: Lord, grant me the boldness to speak Your Word in the face of daunting challenges. Take away every spirit of timidity.

For Deliverance: In the Name of Jesus, I command every ‘Legion’ of stagnation and sickness in my life to pack their bags and go!

For Alignment: Father, let my words be so aligned with Your Word that they carry the same weight as Your own voice.
