Introduction

Philippians 2:9-11 “Therefore God also has highly exalted him and given him a name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven and things on earth and things under the earth, and every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”  

The Holy Spirit is the third person of the Trinity, but He also has a personal name. That name is Jesus. When we call upon the name of Jesus, we are invoking the power and presence of the Holy Spirit.

The Holy Spirit and the Name of Jesus

 John 14:26 “But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.” The Holy Spirit moves and works in response to the name of Jesus. When we call upon Jesus, the Holy Spirit manifests His presence and power.  

The Name of Jesus is the Name of the Godhead: Matthew 28:19 “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.” The name of Jesus is the name of the entire Godhead. When we call upon Jesus, we are calling upon the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.  

The Importance of Calling upon the Name of Jesus: Acts 4:12 “And there is salvation in no other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.” Calling upon the name of Jesus is essential for experiencing the power and presence of the Holy Spirit. It is through the name of Jesus that we can access God’s blessings and receive healing, deliverance, and salvation.

The Power of the Name of Jesus

Creation: Colossians 1:16-19 “For in him all the fullness of God dwells bodily, and you have been filled in him, who is the head of all principality and power. In him you were also circumcised, not with fleshly circumcision, but with that of Christ, having been stripped of your sinful nature. You were buried with him in baptism, in which you were also raised with him through faith in the working of God, who raised him from the dead. And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence. For it pleased the Father that in him should all fulness dwell.” The name of Jesus has the power to create and sustain all things.  

Salvation: Acts 4:12 “And there is salvation in no other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.” The name of Jesus is the only name that can save us from sin and give us eternal life.

Healing: Acts 3:6-8 “Peter said, ‘Silver and gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise and walk!’ And he took him by the right hand and lifted him up, and immediately his feet and ankles became strong. And he leaped up and stood and began to walk, and entered the temple with them, walking and leaping and praising God.” The name of Jesus has the power to heal the sick and restore health.  

Deliverance: Acts 16:16-18 “Now as we were going to the prayer place, a certain slave girl possessed by a spirit of divination met us, who, by practicing divination, brought her masters much gain. She, crying out with a loud voice, said, ‘These men are servants of the Most High God, who proclaim to you the way of salvation.’ And this she kept doing for many days. But when Paul was greatly annoyed, he turned and said to the spirit, ‘I command you in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her!’ And it came out that very hour.” The name of Jesus has the power to deliver people from demonic oppression.  

Miracles: Mark 5:25-26 “And a woman who had a flow of blood for twelve years came from behind and touched the fringe of his garment. For she said to herself, ‘If I can just touch his garment, I will be healed.’ Immediately the flow of blood dried up, and she felt in her body that she was healed of the disease. Jesus, aware at once that power had gone out from him, turned around in the crowd and said, ‘Who touched my garment?’” The name of Jesus has the power to perform supernatural acts that are beyond human explanation.

How to Invoke the Power of the Name of Jesus

Believe in Jesus: John 14:12 “Truly, truly, I say to you, he who believes in me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these he will do, because I am going to the Father.” We must believe in Jesus as Lord and Savior in order to experience the power of His name.  

Call upon His Name: Acts 2:21 “And everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” We must call upon the name of Jesus with faith and expectation.

Submit to His Will: Romans 12:1-2 “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.” We must be willing to submit to Jesus’ authority and allow Him to work in our lives.  

Persevere in Prayer: Luke 18:1 “Then Jesus told them a parable to the effect that they should always pray and not give up.” We must be persistent in our prayers and continue to call upon the name of Jesus, even when we do not see immediate results.

Conclusion

The name of Jesus is a powerful name that can bring about transformation and healing in our lives. By calling upon the name of Jesus, we can experience the presence and power of the Holy Spirit and receive all the blessings that God has in store for us.

God demonstrated His love for us by sending His Son to die for our sins.  

The Name of Jesus is a Name of Hope: Titus 1:2 “in hope of eternal life, which God, who cannot lie, promised before the beginning of time.” The name of Jesus gives us hope for the future and the promise of eternal life.
