THE INTENTIONAL PARENT

BIBLE READING: PSALM 1:1–6

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: JOSHUA 10–12

MEMORISE: “Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” — (PROVERBS 22:6)

I. THE DOCTRINE OF INTENTIONALITY

In 2026, the world is louder than ever. We are living in an era of unprecedented connectivity, but also unprecedented spiritual noise. A child’s mind is bombarded by influences from algorithms, peer pressure, and secular philosophies that seek to reframe the core tenets of the Christian faith. My dear children, you must understand that parenting in this age is not a casual obligation. It is a mandatory, proactive assignment from God.

Accidental parenting, where you respond only to emergencies or delegate your child’s formation to external systems, is a recipe for spiritual disaster. We are called to be Intentional Parents.

Intentionality is not a single act; it is a posture of the heart. It means every conversation, every standard you set, and every atmosphere you cultivate in your home is aligned with the specific purpose of building a spiritually robust next generation. A true intentional parent does not ask, “What do my children want to do?” but rather, “What does God want them to be?” We are partnership with the Holy Spirit to sculpt their character and build their capacity to stand in the evil day.

II. THE PSALM 1 FOUNDATION: A TREE PLANTED, NOT GROWN

In Psalm 1:1–3, we are given the divine visual for an intentional life: “And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.”

Notice that the text says “planted,” not “grown by chance.” Planting requires a conscious, intentional effort. It requires selecting the right soil (the Word of God), placing it by the water source (the presence of the Spirit), and protecting it during its growth phase.

Accidental parenting leaves a child like a wild shrub, vulnerable to the drought of worldliness and the “counsel of the ungodly” mentioned in verse 1. The intentional parent, following the guidance of this Psalm, understands that their home must become the soil that anchors their children’s roots deep into eternal truths. When the storms of 2026 arrive—the peer pressures, the ideological debates, the distractions—a child who is “planted” in this manner will not only survive but will flourish.

III. VISUALIZING GENERATIONAL TRANSFER: THE GOSPEL LINK

The image above serves as a visual parable of what true intentional parenting seeks to achieve: The Generational Transfer of a Spiritual Heritage. The family tree depicted does not grow from standard soil; its roots are inextricably woven around and into a powerful, glowing foundation, which is the Word of God. This symbolizes that the starting point for any family that seeks to raise champions in 2026 is the unshakeable foundation of the scriptures.

The parent’s role is not just to “have children” but to become “The Link.” Notice that the glowing truth from the roots is not hidden. It flows up through the mature parent-branch—modeling a life of consistent prayer, Word study, and righteousness—and is directly transferred into the smaller, rising child-shoot.

This transfer is seamless and direct. The new generation does not have to search for a new foundation; they inherit the strength of the old one because their parent was intentional enough to “model” and “impart” that truth. The result is a canopy of Kingdom Fruit (Purity, Purpose, Dominion, Prosperity) that shelters the family and makes them a “bad reference” to the ungodly, as Pastor Adeboye teaches.

IV. THE THREE PILLARS OF RAISING CHAMIONS

Intentional parenting is built upon three non-negotiable pillars. To miss one is to weaken the entire structure of the child’s formation.

1. Modeling (The Living Blueprint)

The first and most powerful form of instruction is Modeling. In Deuteronomy 6:6–7, God commands that His words be first “in thine heart” before you teach them to your children. Your children are not just watching your face; they are “spiritual observers” of your lifestyle. If you tell them to pray, but they never see you on your knees, your words have zero authority. If you tell them to have faith, but you collapse into anxiety at every business challenge, you are teaching them that faith is a concept, not a reality. To be an intentional parent is to be the first “gospel” your children read.

2. Creating the Environment (The Perfect Law of Liberty)

The atmosphere of your home must be curated as a “Green Zone” of spiritual safety. It is a profound risk in 2026 to leave the “gates” of your home unguarded. The media consumed, the conversations had, and the overall peacefulness are the responsibility of the intentional parent. You must deliberately cultivate an environment where fasting, prayer, and regular Word study are as normalized as breakfast.

3. Instruction & Opportunity (Maximizing the ‘Midst’)

Deuteronomy 6 tells us to teach God’s words when you sit in the house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up. This is about maximizing the teachable moment. You do not relent. Every mealtime, every car ride, and every world event is an opportunity to apply a biblical lens to reality, training them how the Truth of God intersects with their science homework, their relationships, and their future careers.

V. THE STRATEGIC PRAYER POINTS: THE PARENTAL AUDIT

To become an intentional parent, you must be a prayerful parent. We close with a targeted audit of our commitment before God.

PRAYERS OF PREPARATION & ACCEPTANCE:

Father, I thank You for the precious gift of these children (biological and spiritual). Thank You for entrusting me with their formation in this strategic year 2026.

Lord, thank You for revealing the path of intentionality to me. I declare that I will not fail in my assignment. I will not raise an ungodly seed.

PRAYERS FOR CHARACTER & MODELING:

Father, please help me to act in a godly manner at all times. May my actions be a living, consistent testimony of Your Word to every child around me, that my life never becomes a bad reference.

Dear Father, grant me the grace to correct my children when they err, with wisdom and not with vent, so they are not destroyed, but restored to purpose.

PRAYERS FOR ENVIRONMENT & CAPACITY:

Father, help me to create the right environment—a sanctified atmosphere—where my children build the capacity to fast, pray, and study Your Word daily.

Lord, grant me the alertness to maximize every conversation and car ride to teach Your Word and how to apply it in all areas of their lives.

PROPHETIC BLESSINGS OVER THE SEED:

Father, I bless the children You have given me. I decree that they shall be greater than me! They will live to fulfill Your divine purpose and will serve You for the rest of their lives.

Father, I pray for all parents-to-be: Help them to intentionally shapen the lives of their children with Your Word from the womb!
