GRACE FOR LIVING DEVOTIONAL: APRIL 2026 THEOLOGICAL EXPOSITION
THE GOD THAT DWELLS IN US: UNLEASHING THE INTERNAL INFINITE
MESSAGE BY: FOURSQUARE GOSPEL CHURCH IN NIGERIA
BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: 1 SAMUEL 15–16; LUKE 14:25–35
FIRE SCRIPTURE: JEREMIAH 1:4–14
KEY VERSE: “Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us.” — (EPHESIANS 3:20)
I. THE PRE-EXISTENTIAL ORDINATION
As we begin this new week on Monday, April 13, 2026, the Holy Spirit is shifting our perspective from the external challenges of life to the internal reality of God’s presence. Our Fire Scripture in Jeremiah 1 reveals a staggering truth about human identity. Before Jeremiah ever drew his first breath, God declared: “Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee…”
This implies that your existence is not an accident of biology, but a result of divine intentionality. God does not just “visit” us; He “knows” us at a cellular and spiritual level before our history even begins. When we speak of “The God that dwells in us,” we are speaking of the Creator returning to inhabit His own masterpiece.
II. THE PROTEST OF THE FRAIL VESSEL
When confronted with this divine dwelling and calling, Jeremiah’s immediate reaction was one of inadequacy: “Ah, Lord God! behold, I cannot speak: for I am a child” (verse 6).
This is a recurring theme in the history of the prophets. Many were called under conditions that seemed impossible:
-
Isaiah: Had to walk barefoot and naked to illustrate a message of national shame.
-
Hosea: Was commanded to marry a prostitute to mirror God’s heartbreak over an unfaithful people.
-
Paul: Endured shipwrecks, beatings, hunger, and imprisonment.
Why did they endure? Not because they were “superhuman,” but because of the nature of the Resident. When you tell God, “I am just a child” or “I am too weak,” God’s response is always the same: “Say not, I am a child… for I am with thee to deliver thee” (verses 7–8). The dwelling of God in the believer is not a passive tenancy; it is an active, protective, and empowering presence.
III. THE ANATOMY OF DIVINE INDWELLING
How does this “dwelling” practically occur in the year 2026?
1. The Entrance of Love and Salvation
1 John 4:12 & 15 makes it clear: when we confess that Jesus is the Son of God and we walk in love toward one another, God “dwells in us.” This is the miracle of the New Covenant. Under the Old Covenant, God dwelt in a Tabernacle made of skins or a Temple made of stone. Today, you are the Temple.
2. The Multiplication of Grace
How does this presence grow? 2 Peter 1:2 says grace and peace are multiplied through the knowledge of God. The more you study the Resident, the more His power becomes available to the building. You don’t need “more” of God; you need more room for the God who is already there.
IV. THE DYNAMICS OF THE INTERNAL POWER
Our key verse, Ephesians 3:20, is perhaps the most dangerous verse in the Bible for a limited mindset. It says God is able to do “exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think.” But notice the “engine” of this miracle: “…according to the power that worketh in us.”
God’s ability to move in your external world—to heal your body, fix your finances, or restore your family—is mathematically tied to the “power” you allow to work inside you. If the power inside is dormant due to fear or ignorance, the “exceeding abundance” remains on the shelf.
1. The Touch of the Mouth
In Jeremiah 1:9, God put forth His hand and touched Jeremiah’s mouth, saying, “Behold, I have put my words in thy mouth.” When God dwells in you, your vocabulary must change. You no longer speak your “limitations”; you speak His “ordinations.” You are set over nations and kingdoms to “root out” and “plant.” This is not human political power; it is the authority of the Indwelling King.
V. COMPREHENSIVE Q&A: NAVIGATING THE INTERNAL PRESENCE
Q1: If God dwells in me, why do I still feel afraid or lonely?
Answer: Feelings are the “weather” of the soul, but God’s dwelling is the “climate.” Jeremiah felt afraid (verse 8), and Paul felt “troubled on every side.” The presence of God does not always remove the emotion of fear; it provides the power to act in spite of it. Acknowledge the Resident, and the feelings will eventually align with the Truth.
Q2: How do I activate the ‘Power that worketh in us’?
Answer: Through the “Word and the Rod.” In verse 11, God asks, “Jeremiah, what seest thou?” Jeremiah saw a rod of an almond tree (a symbol of alertness and quick performance). Activation happens through Spiritual Vision. If you see yourself as a victim, the power stays idle. If you see yourself as God sees you—sanctified and ordained—the power begins to “hasten” to perform the Word (verse 12).
Q3: Can my sins “evict” God from His dwelling?
Answer: While persistent, unrepentant sin grieves the Holy Spirit and “quenches” the power, God’s commitment to you is based on the blood of Jesus. However, to enjoy the manifestation of His power, you must keep the Temple clean through daily repentance and walking in the Light.
VI. THE 2026 PROPHETIC VISION: NO MORE LIMITS
In this year 2026, many are looking to governments or technology for “miracles.” But the Grace for Living Devotional reminds you that the greatest technology in the universe is the Holy Spirit dwelling in a human spirit. Have you been limiting God by your “I am a child” excuses? Have you missed a miracle because you thought God was “out there” instead of “in here”? Today is the day to stop looking up to the sky for a God who is already standing in your heart.
VII. REFLECTION & PROPHETIC ALIGNMENT
THOUGHT TO PONDER:
If the Creator of the stars has moved into my heart, what “seething pot” (verse 13) can possibly overwhelm me? The Resident is greater than the pressure.
PROPHETIC DECREE FOR APRIL 13, 2026:
I decree today that the Resident King in you is rising to silence every “voice of inadequacy”! Every “I cannot speak” or “I am too young/old” excuse is shattered now in Jesus’ name! I decree that as God touched Jeremiah’s mouth, He is touching your capacity today. You are receiving the “Almond Tree” vision—you shall see clearly and God will hasten His Word to perform it in your life. The power working in you is now shifting from “dormant” to “dominant”! You shall root out every evil and plant every blessing by the authority of the Indwelling God!
PRAYER:
Father Lord, I thank You for the mystery of Your dwelling. I thank You that I am not alone and I am not empty. Forgive me for the times I have limited Your power through my fear and my small thinking. Today, I throw the doors of my heart wide open. Please do in me far more than I can ever imagine or think, according to Your power that works in me. Touch my mouth, touch my vision, and let Your glory be manifest in my body today and always. Amen.
