LET MY DRY BONES COME ALIVE

A Call for Revival and Restoration
A Reflection on Ezekiel 37 and the Power of God’s Word
SCRIPTURE READING: Ezekiel 37
The hand of the LORD was upon me, and carried me out in the spirit of the LORD, and set me down in the midst of the valley which was full of bones, and caused me to pass by them round about: and, behold, there were very many in the open valley; and, lo, they were very dry. And he said unto me, Son of man, can these bones live? And I answered, O Lord GOD, thou knowest. Again he said unto me, Prophesy upon these bones, and say unto them, O ye dry bones, hear the word of the LORD. Thus saith the Lord GOD unto these bones; Behold, I will cause breath to enter into you, and ye shall live: And I will lay sinews upon you, and will bring up flesh upon you, and cover you with skin, and put breath in you, and ye shall live; and ye shall know that I am the LORD. So I prophesied as I was commanded: and as I prophesied, there was a noise, and behold a shaking, and the bones came together, bone to his bone. And when I beheld, lo, the sinews and the flesh came up upon them, and the skin covered them above: but there was no breath in them. Then said he unto me, Prophesy unto the wind, prophesy, son of man, and say to the wind, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Come from the four winds, O breath, and breathe upon these slain, that they may live. So I prophesied as he commanded me, and the breath came into them, and they lived, and stood up upon their feet, an exceeding great army. Then he said unto me, Son of man, these bones are the whole house of Israel: behold, they say, Our bones are dried, and our hope is lost: we are cut off for our parts. Therefore prophesy and say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, O my people, I will open your graves, and cause you to come up out of your graves, and bring you into the land of Israel. And ye shall know that I am the LORD, when I have opened your graves, O my people, and brought you up out of your graves, and shall put my spirit in you, and ye shall live, and I shall place you in your own land: then shall ye know that I the LORD have spoken it, and performed it, saith the LORD.
MESSAGE: The Valley of Dry Bones: A Universal Human Experience
The prophecy of Ezekiel and the vision of the valley of dry bones is one of the most powerful and enduring metaphors in the Bible. It speaks not only to the historical context of the nation of Israel, which felt its hope was lost in the Babylonian exile, but also to the universal human experience of hopelessness, stagnation, and despair. We all, at one point or another, find ourselves in a “valley of dry bones.”
This valley represents any area of our lives where hope seems to be completely gone. It could be a struggling marriage, a failed business, a chronic illness, a spiritual life that feels empty and dead, or a destiny that seems to be buried under layers of disappointment and negative consequences. In this valley, our bones are not just dead; they are “very dry,” a state of being so far removed from life that revival seems impossible. The question God poses to Ezekiel is the same question He asks us today: “Can these bones live?”
This question is a test of our faith. It challenges us to look beyond our physical sight and believe in the supernatural power of God. Our human answer, like Ezekiel’s, should always be, “O Lord GOD, you know.” We may not see a way, but we trust that He, in His infinite power and wisdom, can do the impossible.
The Power of the Spoken Word
God’s instruction to Ezekiel is a profound lesson in spiritual warfare and the power of God’s Word. He did not tell Ezekiel to pray silently or to simply hope for a miracle. He commanded him to prophesy to the dry bones, to speak the Word of the Lord directly into a seemingly lifeless situation.
“O ye dry bones, hear the word of the LORD. Thus saith the Lord GOD unto these bones; Behold, I will cause breath to enter into you, and ye shall live.” (Ezekiel 37:4-5).
As Ezekiel spoke, a supernatural process began. First, there was a noise and a shaking, and the bones came together. Then, sinews and flesh and skin covered the bones. The physical structure was restored, but something was still missing: breath. God then instructed Ezekiel to prophesy again, this time to the wind, to the very breath of God.
“Come from the four winds, O breath, and breathe upon these slain, that they may live.” (Ezekiel 37:9).
This dual act of prophecy—first to the bones, then to the breath—is a model for us. We must speak God’s Word and declare His promises over our dry situations. We must also invite the Spirit of God to breathe life into what we have declared. The combination of the spoken Word and the breath of the Holy Spirit is what brings about a complete and total resurrection. The bones came alive and stood up as “an exceeding great army.” This is not just a revival; it is a transformation from death to life, from defeat to victory, from a scattered mess to a mighty army.
Personal Application: Confronting the “Dry Bones” in Our Lives
Just as the dry bones were a representation of the house of Israel’s hopelessness, our personal battles can feel like valleys of dry bones. The prayer points below are a powerful list of the spiritual and physical battles we face. They represent the “dry bones” in our lives that need to come alive.
Arrow of disappointment: Disappointment, especially from the dream world, can make us tired of living. This is a spiritual attack on our will and our hope. We must speak to it and command it to get out.
Luggage of negative consequences: The baggage of our past sins, bad decisions, or generational curses can weigh us down and prevent us from moving forward. We must command this luggage to get out by fire.
Evil flood taking away destinies: There are spiritual floods designed to sweep away the destinies of people in our generation. We must declare that our destiny is not a victim of this flood.
Foundations of curses: Many of our problems are rooted in generational curses or ungodly covenants. We must seek to destroy the very foundation upon which these curses operate.
The key to overcoming these spiritual battles is to recognize that we are not fighting alone. We have the rod of strength from Zion (Prayer Point 66), the Spirit of dominion (Prayer Point 67), and the power of the Rock of Ages to crush everything that resists the Word of God over our case (Prayer Point 69).
Confession and Confidence in a Sovereign God
Our confession for this devotional day is from 2 Timothy 1:12: “For the which cause I also suffer these things: nevertheless I am not ashamed: for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day.”
This is a confession of unwavering confidence in God’s power and faithfulness. It acknowledges that we will suffer trials and tribulations, but our trust is not in ourselves or in the world’s systems. It is in the sovereign God who is able to keep what we have committed to Him. We can pray for change from a “nonentity to a celebrity” (Prayer Point 64) because we trust in His ability to change our story.
The final prayer points focus on a powerful act of spiritual warfare: identifying and confronting the sources of our problems. Whether the problem came from something we swallowed, something we stepped on, a covenant, a bad habit, or a past ceremony, we must, by the authority given to us in Christ, command it to be nullified, crushed, and destroyed.
This is a day to speak life into every dead area of our lives. It is a day to stop seeing the problem and start seeing the power of God. The same God who commanded dry bones to live is ready to do the same for you. Your bones, no matter how dry, can come alive and stand up as a mighty army for His glory.
DAILY CONFESSION:
My heart is comforted from now on, for the God of suddenly, provision and grace is still on the throne, in the name of Jesus. I trust in the word of God; the word stands sure when I speak it; it will accomplish the purpose for which I have spoken it, in Jesus’ name.
This is a day to pray with a new understanding and a renewed sense of authority.
