IT IS FINISHED: THE ARCHITECTURE OF COMPLETED REDEMPTION

I. THE FINAL WORD: TETELESTAI
As we gather on this Friday, April 3, 2026, we stand at the foot of the most significant event in human history. In our Fire Scripture, we find Jesus at the zenith of His earthly suffering. After the mockery, the scourging, and the excruciating hours on the cross, He utters three words that changed the legal status of every human being: “It is finished.”
In the original Greek, this is the word Tetelestai. In the first century, this wasn’t just a religious cry; it was a term used in three specific contexts:

In Business: It meant “The debt is paid in full.”

In Law: It meant “The sentence has been served.”

In Military: It meant “The battle is won.”
When Jesus spoke these words, He wasn’t announcing His defeat or His end; He was announcing the completion of a mission that began before the foundations of the world were laid.
II. THE GENESIS OF REDEMPTION: FROM EDEN TO CALVARY
To understand the weight of “It is Finished,” we must go back to the beginning. After Adam and Eve’s disobedience in the Garden, humanity fell under the dominion of sin and death. The “High Day” of the Sabbath was shadowed by the low reality of human fallenness.
1. The Protoevangelium (The First Gospel)
In Genesis 3:15, God issued a prophetic death warrant to the serpent: “And I will put enmity between thee and the woman… it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.” For thousands of years, every sacrifice offered in the Old Testament—every lamb, every bull, every goat—was a “placeholder.” They could cover sin, but they could never remove its consequences.
2. The Suffering Servant
The Prophet Isaiah, looking through the telescope of time, described this Friday with haunting accuracy: “But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed” (Isaiah 53:5). Jesus was fully aware of this script. He wasn’t a victim of Roman politics or Jewish jealousy; He was the Lamb of God walking a pre-ordained path. This is why He rebuked Peter so sharply in the garden—He knew that any deviation from the cross would mean the eternal doom of mankind.
III. THE ANATOMY OF THE SACRIFICE
The “Finished Work” involved more than just physical death. It involved the total exhaustion of the wrath of God against sin.
The Injustice: He was falsely accused, yet remained silent. He was the Judge of the Universe standing before an earthly governor, being unjustly condemned so that we could be justly acquitted.
The Shame: They spat in His face—the face that the angels veiled their eyes from. They slapped Him and mocked His kingship with a crown of thorns.
The Substitution: Every drop of blood that fell was a payment. When the soldier pierced His side and “blood and water” flowed out, it was medical proof of a ruptured heart—He literally died of a broken heart so that yours could be mended.
IV. WHAT WAS ACTUALLY FINISHED?
When Jesus cried out, what exactly came to an end?
1: The Power of the Curse: Galatians 3:13 says Christ became a curse for us. On that Friday, the legal right of the curse to operate in your life was revoked.
2: The Separation from God: The veil of the temple was rent from top to bottom. The “No Entry” sign to the Holy of Holies was taken down.
3: The Reign of Satan: The “head of the serpent” was officially crushed. Satan was stripped of the keys of death and hell.
4: The Requirement of Animal Sacrifice: There is no longer any need for “drink offerings of blood.” The Perfect Sacrifice has been made once and for all.
V. COMPREHENSIVE Q&A: LIVING IN THE “FINISHED” REALITY
Q1: If it is ‘finished,’ why do I still struggle with sin and sickness?
Answer: Jesus finished the legal work of redemption. However, we live in the “overlap of the ages.” We must “enforce” the finished work through faith. It’s like a debt that has been paid at the bank; if you don’t show the receipt to the debt collector, he will keep bothering you. Your faith in the Word is your receipt.
Q2: Does ‘It is Finished’ mean I don’t have to do anything to be saved?
Answer: It means you cannot do anything to earn salvation. You cannot add to a finished work. You don’t “work for” your salvation; you “work from” it. Your good works are a response of love, not a payment for entry.
Q3: Why was the ‘Vinegar’ significant in the Bible reading?
Answer: It was the final prophecy to be fulfilled (Psalm 69:21). Jesus refused the drugged wine (which would have numbed the pain) because He wanted to be fully conscious to pay the full price. He only took the vinegar to moisten His throat so He could shout the victory cry—Tetelestai!—with a loud voice.
VI. REFLECTION & PROPHETIC PRAYER
THOUGHT TO PONDER:
If Jesus has finished the work, why am I still trying to “fix” myself through human effort? Today, I choose to rest in His completed sacrifice.
PROPHETIC DECREE FOR APRIL 3, 2026:
I decree over your life today that every “unfinished” business in your health, your finances, and your family is coming under the power of the Finished Work! Because Jesus said “It is Finished,” I command every cycle of generational failure in your lineage to stop now! You are not a victim of your past; you are a beneficiary of the Cross. I decree that the price for your peace has been fully paid, and you shall walk in the fullness of that peace throughout this month!
PRAYER:
Thank You, Lord Jesus, for enduring the suffering, the shame, and the agony of the Cross. Thank You for being the propitiation for my sins. I acknowledge that the work of my redemption is complete. I refuse to carry the weight of guilt or the fear of death any longer. I stand in the victory of Your Finished Work and I declare that I am healed, I am delivered, and I am highly favored. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
