On this World Dream Day, we are reminded that our dreams and aspirations must be rooted in something more profound than worldly success. The story of Jabez, though brief, offers a timeless blueprint for building a personal profile that is grounded in faith, diligence, and a deep reliance on God.

The account of Jabez, found in 1 Chronicles 4:9-10, is a powerful reminder that our beginnings do not determine our destiny. His name, “Jabez,” means “he causes pain” or “sorrowful,” given to him by a mother who bore him in great pain. By all accounts, his life was meant to be one of sorrow and limitation. Yet, he rose above his circumstances through a conscious decision to pursue a different path—one that would lead him to become “more honorable than his brothers.” His prayer is a masterclass in how to build a life of purpose and impact, not for personal glory, but for God’s favor.
