OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL: MARCH 2026 DEEP-DIVE
MINISTERS OF LIGHT (PART 1)
MESSAGE BY: PASTOR E.A. ADEBOYE
BIBLE READING: MATTHEW 5:14–16 (KJV)
BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: 1 SAMUEL 17–18
HYMN: 7 – I AM THINE, O LORD
MEMORISE: “The people which sat in darkness saw great light; and to them which sat in the region and shadow of death light is sprung up.” — (MATTHEW 4:16)
I. THE ONTOLOGY OF LIGHT: A DIVINE IDENTITY
As we welcome this Friday, March 27th, 2026, we must confront a fundamental truth about our spiritual nature. Light is not merely something we have; it is who we are. Light is characterized by its inherent power—it is the only force in the universe that can drive away darkness and reveal that which has been hidden for ages.
In John 9:5, Jesus made a definitive statement: “As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.” He was the source, the “Sun of Righteousness” walking among men. John 1:4-5 further solidifies this, noting that in Him was life, and that life was the light of men—a light so potent that the darkness could not comprehend (overpower or extinguish) it.
However, the mystery of the New Covenant is found in Matthew 5:14, where the same Jesus looks at His followers and declares: “Ye are the light of the world.” This is a staggering transfer of identity. Since God cannot lie (Numbers 23:19), this is not a metaphor or a poetic encouragement. If you are a disciple of Christ, you are, by spiritual definition, Light.
II. THE GENEALOGY OF GLORY
To understand why we are light, we must look at our parentage. James 1:17 tells us that every good and perfect gift comes down from the Father of Lights.
1. Spiritual DNA
In the natural world, children carry the biological traits of their parents. In the spiritual realm, the children of the “Father of Lights” must necessarily consist of the same essence. You cannot be a child of God and remain a creature of shadows.
2. The Command to Shine
God does not suggest that you shine; He expects it. The command in Matthew 5:16 is explicit: “Let your light so shine before men…” The purpose of your existence is to be a visible contrast to the darkness of this world. When you shine, you are not drawing attention to your own ego; you are creating a “visual aid” for the world to see God’s good works and give Him the glory.
III. THE MINISTRY OF THE NEW COVENANT
You are called as an “able minister of the new covenant” (2 Corinthians 3:6). This means your life is a platform for the revelation of God’s grace. Being a “Minister of Light” means your presence in a room should change the “atmospheric pressure” of that environment.
1. Surpassing the Master’s Works
Jesus made a provocative promise in John 14:12: “He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.” As a Minister of Light, you are empowered to carry out the same mandate Jesus had:
The Sight Factor: Just as Jesus gave sight to the man born blind (John 9:1-7), your light should bring spiritual “sight” to those blinded by the god of this world.
The Infirmity Factor: Jesus ended a 38-year siege of sickness at the pool of Bethesda (John 5:1-9). Your ministry of light should break long-standing cycles of poverty, sickness, and delay in your family.
The Deliverance Factor: Whether it was the lepers in Luke 17 or the man possessed by a legion of demons in Mark 5, light always brought liberty.
IV. COMPREHENSIVE Q&A: CALIBRATING YOUR RADIANCE
Q1: If I am ‘Light,’ why does it feel like darkness is still prevailing in my personal life?
Answer: A candle is light even when it is under a bushel, but it cannot fulfill its purpose there. In Matthew 5:15, Jesus warns against putting your light under a “bushel” (the cares of life, fear, or secret sin). You must consciously remove the covers. Check if your lifestyle or associations are “shrouding” your testimony.
Q2: How do I shine in a workplace that is hostile to the Gospel?
Answer: You shine through “Good Works.” Light is often silent. In a hostile environment, your integrity, your excellence at your job, your punctuality, and your kindness under pressure are the beams of light that men cannot argue with. Eventually, they will have to acknowledge the “Source” of your difference.
Q3: What does ‘greater works’ look like in 2026?
Answer: While Jesus walked in a limited geographical area, you have the “Light” that can travel across the globe via technology, influence, and global ministry. “Greater works” also refers to the sheer volume of souls being brought out of darkness into the Kingdom through the collective light of the global Church.
V. THE IMPACT OF THE HILL-TOP IDENTITY
A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Your identity is public. As a child of God, you are a “marked” person. Your fame—or rather, the fame of the Christ in you—should spread because of the miracles and “light-bearing” qualities of your life.
When the light of God shines through you:
-
Impossibilities become possible.
-
Hidden traps of the enemy are exposed.
-
The “Shadow of Death” is chased away from your household.
I pray that the light of God in you will never be dimmed by the winds of compromise or hidden by the bushels of fear, in Jesus’ name.
VI. REFLECTION & PROPHETIC PRAYER
THOUGHT TO PONDER:
Is my “light” currently under a bushel? What “good works” can I perform today that will force men to look toward my Father in Heaven?
PROPHETIC DECREE FOR MARCH 27TH:
I decree today that your season of obscurity is over! Because you are a child of the Father of Lights, I command every shadow of death hovering over your health and career to vanish now. In this year 2026, you shall be like a city set on a hill. Men shall see your good works and flock to your light. You will not just be a bearer of news; you will be a Minister of Light, performing greater works in your generation!
PRAYER POINTS:
For Alignment: Father, please help me to walk in the fullness of my identity as light. Let me never forget who I am in the midst of a dark world.
Against Obscurity: Lord, I remove every ‘bushel’ of sin, shame, and fear that has been covering my radiance. I step onto the candlestick of my destiny today.
For Miraculous Manifestation: Father, let my light produce miracles. As I step out today, let the sick be healed and the oppressed find deliverance through the Christ in me.
For Constant Communion: As the hymn says, ‘Draw me nearer, nearer, blessed Lord.‘ Keep me connected to the Source so that my lamp never runs out of oil.
