I. THE MISSING LINK IN SPIRITUAL DOMINION

As we journey through the month of March 2026, many believers find themselves at a spiritual crossroads. You may have experienced moments where certain challenges—be they in your health, finances, or family—seem to persist despite your best efforts. You’ve likely heard the frustrated cry of the sincere Christian: “I’ve prayed until my voice is gone. I’ve fasted for days on end. I’ve confessed the Word. Yet, the power of God seems elusive in this specific area. What more do I need to do?”

The answer often lies in a fundamental spiritual principle that is frequently misunderstood: True Submission to the Lordship of Jesus. Lordship is not just a theological title we accord to Jesus on Sundays; it is a functional reality. Some situations will not shift simply because you “commanded” them; they shift because you have positioned yourself under the absolute authority of the Name that is above every name. In the realm of the spirit, authority is directly linked to submission. You only have authority to the degree that you are under authority.

II. THE MATTHEW 17 MYSTERY: WHY WE FAIL

To understand this, we must look at the historical encounter in Matthew 17:14–21. A desperate father approached Jesus, kneeling in the dust, pleading for his son who was “lunatick” and “sore vexed” by a demon. The father’s frustration was palpable because he had already taken the boy to the disciples, and they—the hand-picked students of the Master—could not cure him.

Consider the disciples’ perplexity. In Matthew 10:1, Jesus had already given them legal authority over unclean spirits. They had the “license,” but in this specific moment, they lacked the “transmission” of power.

When Jesus arrived, His response was sharp: “O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you?” He then rebuked the demon, and the child was cured instantly. Later, the disciples asked privately, “Why could not we cast him out?”

Jesus’ answer was two-fold:

  1. Unbelief: A lack of confidence in the integrity of God’s Word.

  2. The Role of Prayer and Fasting: He famously noted, “Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting” (Matthew 17:21).

III. REDEFINING PRAYER AND FASTING: IT’S NOT ABOUT “MORE POWER”

This is the junction where many Christians miss the mark. They view prayer and fasting as a spiritual “vending machine” where they trade hunger for “power points.” They think, “If I fast for seven days, I will have enough power to blast this demon away.”

That is not the idea here. You don’t fast to change God; you fast to change you.

One of the primary functions of prayer and fasting is to get you more submissive to the Lordship of Jesus. Fasting is the deliberate act of quieting the flesh so that your spirit can become more sensitive to the impulses of the Holy Ghost. It is a yielding process.

  • Power is not something you “earn” through fasting.

  • Power is what flows through you when you are completely yielded.

The more you submit your will, your emotions, and your members to Him, the more His inherent power flows through you unhindered. Submission is the “copper wire” through which the electricity of the Spirit travels. If the wire is corroded with self-will or independence, the power remains at the source rather than manifesting at the destination.

IV. THE DYNAMICS OF YIELDING

In Romans 6:13, the Apostle Paul urges us: “Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God…”

Lordship means Jesus has the final say in your reactions, your business ethics, and your private thoughts. When you are truly submissive to His Lordship, you don’t “try” to resist the devil; the devil flees because he recognizes the rank of the One you are submitted to. James 4:7 does not start with “Resist the devil”; it starts with “Submit yourselves therefore to God.”

When you stand before a mountain of sickness or a valley of lack, you aren’t standing there in your own name. You are standing as an extension of His Lordship. But if you are living in rebellion to His Word in your daily life, your “command” lacks the weight of His authority.

V. COMPREHENSIVE Q&A: NAVIGATING SUBMISSION

Q1: Does this mean I am responsible for my prayers not being answered?

Answer: It’s not about “blame,” it’s about “alignment.” If you are trying to drive a car while the parking brake is engaged, you’ll burn out the engine. Submission is the act of releasing the “brakes” of self-will so God’s grace can move you forward effortlessly.

Q2: How do I know if I am truly “yielded” during a fast?

Answer: Yielding is characterized by a “brokenness” of heart and a heightened hunger for the Word. If you are fasting but still being irritable, proud, or self-reliant, you are simply on a diet. True fasting brings you to a place where you say, “Lord, not my will, but Yours be done.”

Q3: Can I exercise authority if I am a “new” Christian?

Answer: Absolutely. Authority isn’t based on “seniority,” it’s based on “identity” and “submission.” The moment you acknowledge Jesus as Lord, you have the legal right to use His Name. As you grow in your submission to that Name, your effectiveness increases.

Q4: Why did Jesus call the disciples “perverse?

Answer: The word “perverse” in this context refers to being “turned aside” or “distorted.” They had turned aside from the simplicity of faith and submission, trying to use the Name of Jesus as a formula rather than functioning from a place of deep, yielded communion.

VI. REFLECTION & STRATEGIC PRAYER

KEY PRINCIPLE: Your authority over the devil is equal to your submission to the Lordship of Jesus.

PROPHETIC WORD FOR MARCH 12TH:

I decree that today, the scales of “self-will” are falling from your eyes! You are entering a new dimension of yieldedness. Every mountain that has refused to move is bowing now, not because of your struggle, but because of your submission. As you acknowledge the Lordship of Jesus in your secret place, His glory shall be made manifest in your public life!

PRAYER:

Dear Father, I thank You for the revelation of Your Word. I submit myself wholly to Your Lordship today. I acknowledge that You are my sufficiency, my strength, and my absolute Master. I yield my body, my mind, and my circumstances to the authority of Your Word. I declare that Your power and grace flow through me unhindered to heal the sick, cast out devils, and manifest the Gospel of peace. In the mighty Name of the Lord Jesus. Amen.
