“For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God…”
ALLOWING THE HOLY SPIRIT TO PRAY THROUGH ME
KEY VERSE: “Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.” (Romans 8:26, KJV)
I. THE SPIRITUAL JOHARI WINDOW: REVEALING THE UNKNOWN
ALLOWING THE HOLY SPIRIT TO PRAY THROUGH ME: A Deeper Understanding
In the field of psychology, the Johari Window is a brilliant tool developed by Joseph Luft and Harrington Ingham to help individuals understand their relationship with themselves and others. It consists of four quadrants:
- The Open Area: What is known to you and known to others.
- The Blind Spot: What is known to others but remains hidden from you.
- The Hidden Area: What you know about yourself but keep secret from others.
- The Unknown Area: That which is hidden from both you and everyone around you.
While this tool is effective for emotional intelligence, it perfectly illustrates our profound human limitation in the realm of the Spirit. As we stand in the first week of 2026, we must admit a humbling truth:
II. THE INFIRMITY OF THE INTELLECT
Romans 8:26 uses a very specific word: Infirmity (or weakness). In the context of prayer, this infirmity is not necessarily a physical illness, but a structural limitation of the human mind. Paul says, “We know not what we should pray for as we ought.”
Think about that. We may know how to talk, but we don’t always know what the priority of Heaven is in a specific moment.
- We might pray for a problem to be removed, while God is using that problem to build our character.
- We might pray for a “door” to open, while the Holy Spirit sees the “lion” waiting on the other side of that door.
Our “ought” is often dictated by our comfort;
III. THE MYSTERY OF THE GROANINGS
The scripture mentions “groanings that cannot be expressed in words.” This is the deep, intensive intercession where the Holy Spirit takes hold of our spirit.
A. Beyond Utterance
There are times in prayer when words fail. The pain is too deep, the need is too great, or the spiritual weight is too heavy for English, Yoruba, Igbo, or any human language. In these moments, the Holy Spirit produces an utterance within us—sometimes in “unknown tongues” and sometimes in silent, heavy “travail”—that carries the frequency of Heaven.
B. The Gethsemane Contrast
Consider the disciples in the Garden of Gethsemane (Matthew 26:36-40). Jesus was in the throes of a “Spirit-led” prayer, sweating drops of blood as He wrestled for the destiny of humanity. Meanwhile, the disciples were sleeping. Why? Because they were praying out of their “flesh” (their sorrow and exhaustion), while Jesus was praying out of the “Spirit.”
IV. THE BENEFITS OF SPIRIT-LED INTERCESSION
Perfect Alignment: You stop praying “amiss.” The Spirit ensures that your requests match the “files” of Heaven.
Access to the Deep Things: The Spirit reveals secrets to you during prayer—insights about your business, your health, or your children that you could never have known through natural means.
The Witness of Sonship: Romans 8:16 says the Spirit bears witness that we are children of God. When you pray in the Spirit, your confidence in your “Abba” grows. You move from the “Spirit of bondage” (fear) into the “Spirit of adoption” (boldness).
As you navigate 2026, refuse to be a “surface-level” prayer warrior. Do not be satisfied with five minutes of rehearsed phrases. Open your heart and say, “Holy Spirit, take over my tongue. Pray through me for the things I cannot see.
PRAYER DECREES FOR THE DAY
For Divine Partnership: Holy Spirit, I surrender my vocal cords and my spirit to You today. I acknowledge that I do not know how to pray as I ought. Help my infirmity today!
For Revivial: Lord, revive the fire of prayer in my life and in Your Church. Let the “Gethsemane sleep” be broken in Jesus’ name.
For Glory Realms: Carry me, O Lord, to the realms of glory where the flesh cannot follow. Let my prayers produce results that amaze my generation.
For Alignment: I decree that every prayer I pray today is aligned with the perfect will of the Father. I shall not pray in vain in 2026!
