The Unseen Hand of Justice and the Final Reckoning

MESSAGE: GOD WILL JUDGE THE WICKED

The book of Job is a profound exploration of human suffering and divine justice. In the midst of his own unimaginable trials, Job turns his attention to the rampant evil and oppression he sees in the world around him. He observes that the wicked often seem to prosper, carrying out their acts of cruelty and injustice without immediate consequence. This apparent delay in judgment leads many, even today, to question God’s attentiveness or justice.

However, Job’s reflection, particularly in Job 24, serves as a powerful reminder: God is watching, and though His judgment may tarry, its arrival is absolutely certain. This message confronts the brutal reality of oppression in our modern society—from the workplace to the halls of power—and affirms the biblical truth that no act of wickedness, whether committed in the dark or in plain sight, will escape the scrutiny and final judgment of the Almighty.

1. The Many Faces of Modern Oppression

Job’s lament details the oppression prevalent in his ancient society, but his description is chillingly relevant to our world today. Wickedness is not limited to grand crimes; it manifests in the subtle, systemic abuse of the vulnerable.

Economic Exploitation: The powerful oppress the weak by using their money and influence to seize what rightfully belongs to others. In today’s economy, this often appears as employers of labor who unjustly short-pay their workers, owe them wages, or subject them to working conditions that are beyond their strength or will. This exploitation subjects the poor masses to hard labor under rain and sun, dealing with them callously because of their vulnerability.

Targeting the Vulnerable: Job highlights the plight of the widows, the fatherless, the poor, and the downtrodden—those who have no human protection. They are subjected to inhuman treatment, forced to observe degrading traditions, or even taken to court with false accusations and imprisoned or killed with jungle justice. Their assets, their dignity, and their rights are stolen by force.

Corruption in Leadership: Our modern leaders are often involved in this type of injustice by stealing and misappropriating our common resources, enriching themselves while impoverishing the nation and failing to create a sound economic system that benefits the poor masses. This betrayal of public trust is a form of massive oppression against the very people they swore to serve.

Petty Tyranny: Even in smaller spheres—schools, workshops, and neighborhoods—we see instances of prefects, senior apprentices, and course reps mistreating their juniors or subordinates when they have no one to defend them. This petty tyranny is just as offensive to God’s sense of justice as the grand crimes.

This is a solemn warning to every person in a position of authority, regardless of how small: How are you treating the house helps, servants, cooks, security men, and drivers in your house and offices? God is watching, and He will return the same measure of judgment you mete out to others at the appropriate time. Wickedness must be punished.

2. The Futility of Darkness: The All-Seeing God

The wicked often rely on secrecy, believing that their evil works are hidden. The Bible makes it clear that all evil works are done in the dark. Even when crimes are committed in the light of day, it is only because darkness has covered the sense of reasoning of the perpetrators.

The Light of the World: Jesus did not mince words when He proclaimed, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life” (John 8:12, NKJV). This means that any wicked or evil work you do is an indication that you don’t know Jesus Christ, and that darkness has covered your spiritual eyes.

Works of Darkness: Job and other scriptures outline these acts of darkness: fornication and adultery, stealing, fighting and murder, kidnapping, and drug addiction—to mention but a few.

No Hiding Place: The most frightening thing about those who engage in these acts is that they operate under the delusion that their crimes are invisible. Satan has blocked their sense of reasoning to prevent them from knowing that God, who is not inhibited by darkness, sees all their evil works.

- Proverbs 15:3 (NKJV): “The eyes of the LORD are in every place, keeping watch on the evil and the good.”
- 2 Chronicles 16:9: “For the eyes of the LORD run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show Himself strong on behalf of those whose heart is loyal to Him.”

There is no hiding place for workers of iniquity. Your only viable option now is to embrace the Light, which is Jesus Christ, and stop all works of darkness.

3. The Finality of God’s Judgment

The wicked often boast of their strength and wealth, living as if God were irrelevant to their lives. They forget that God is in control of their life, and nobody can dare God when He decides to act.

A Temporary Exaltation: The wicked may be exalted a little while, using their power to oppress the weak and poor, but their end is always the same: they are soon gone, and no remembrance of them anymore.

- Job 24:24 states: “They are exalted for a little while, then they are gone; they are brought low, they are taken out of the way like all others; they dry out like the heads of grain.”

The Power of the Grave: No matter how long the wicked parade their strength and wealth, one day, the Lord will bring him/her to the grave where worms will feast on him/her. This ultimate humbling is the lesson many acting wickedly fail to grasp: there is a limit to their evil ways.

God Rules All Kingdoms: God rules in all kingdoms—family, society, and nation. He draws the mighty away with His power. They may rely on their security systems, but they forget that God’s eyes are on their ways. They rise up but are not sure of their life.

This lesson is for every mortal reading this post. Desist from any acts of wickedness you are indulging in. The time of judgment is fixed, and the only escape is through repentance and reconciliation with God.

The certainty of God’s judgment is both a warning and a comfort. It is a warning to those who engage in oppression and evil that their temporary triumph will end in eternal loss. It is a comfort to the oppressed and downtrodden that their silent cries are being heard, and their righteous Judge is coming to avenge their cause.
